Chapter 87: As If Waking From a Dream

Bai Youwei threw down the towel and hurriedly left the bathroom in her wheelchair.

Shen Mo was no longer outside the door.

He had jumped straight down! He was now on the first floor, having just fished Tan Xiao out of the koi pond in the hotel lobby!

—On one side of the hotel lobby was a water pool with more than a dozen koi fish. Tan Xiao had been bored and was playing at catching fish by the pool’s edge, but who knew he would actually fall in and be unable to get up!

That pool was only calf-deep!

“This place has water ghosts!” Tan Xiao was soaked through and screamed in fright. “There are water ghosts pulling me underwater! Let’s get out of here quick!”

“It’s not a water ghost!” Teacher Cheng on the side had seen it clearly and shouted with a pale face. “It’s a doll, a doll came out from your reflection!”

Shen Mo’s expression immediately changed when he heard this. He turned his head to look upstairs and saw that behind Bai Youwei, there was somehow an extra shadow!

Looking more carefully, it was a doll! Its arms were stretched out like a rigid corpse approaching Bai Youwei!

“Bai Youwei!” Shen Mo bellowed. “Jump down!”

As early as when Shen Mo’s expression changed drastically, Bai Youwei had sensed something was wrong, but… damn it! How was she supposed to jump?! She didn’t even have a point to push off from, okay?!

Bai Youwei didn’t look back. She propped herself up with both hands and forcefully shifted her center of gravity!

Her entire body tilted sideways and fell straight down from the second floor—

Clanging sounds rang in her ears—it was her wheelchair tipping over and falling down as well.

She quickly closed her eyes. As her body plummeted, her heart pounded, not knowing whether she would be injured from the fall first or hit by the wheelchair first.

A large hand wrapped around her waist. Her body dropped hard from inertia, then was steadily pulled up by that hand, swinging half a circle in the air—she felt dizzy. Opening her eyes, she saw Shen Mo holding her with one hand while his other hand gripped the ladder’s crossbar.

From his embrace, she looked up at him. From this angle, the profile of his face was handsome and resolute, his gaze cold, his thin lips pressed into a line, hiding an imposing strength within his seriousness and restraint.

And with the slightly dizzying background, this scene entering her eyes truly made her heart race.

Bang!

A loud crash.

Bai Youwei seemed to wake from a dream.

Turning her head, she saw the wheelchair had already hit the ground, lying on its side with both wheels squeaking and spinning continuously, the axles reflecting cold white metallic light.

The doll upstairs was nowhere to be seen.

“Let’s go outside.” Teacher Cheng helped up the wheelchair with trepidation, looking around himself, feeling that nowhere was safe.

Shen Mo’s voice was calm: “When leaving, watch your surroundings and don’t get close to mirror-like objects.”

—Mirror-like objects included mirrors, glass, water surfaces, and any object that could reflect an image.

For a moment, everyone even felt the ceramic floor tiles beneath their feet were dangerous!

They hurriedly retreated from the hotel.

In the maze passage, Shen Mo placed Bai Youwei in the wheelchair and checked her up and down. Although her hair was disheveled and she looked a bit bedraggled, the fact that she could sit here completely unharmed was already extremely fortunate.

“If the dolls in the mirrors are the difficulty the game created for us, then could the exit be in the place where mirrors are most concentrated?” Shen Mo mused aloud.

Bai Youwei shook her head lightly. “The place with the most mirrors is in the maze center. The exit and starting point can’t overlap—that would be too much of a cheat.”

After pausing, she added: “I think the dolls in the mirrors should be a clue, or a kind of hint.”

She turned to ask Tan Xiao: “When you were catching fish, did you feel that your reflection was different in any way?”

Tan Xiao was stunned. “I didn’t notice…”

“How so, did your doll have something abnormal?” Shen Mo asked Bai Youwei.

“Hard to say.” Bai Youwei thought for a moment. “…Anyway, if you all get a chance, you’d better carefully observe yourselves in mirrors. Of course, for safety’s sake, someone should be with you.”

Everyone looked at each other. In the end, they all nodded.
