Chapter 926: Werewolf Village 23

Bai Youwei extended her hands and gripped the window frame.

The wooden trim around the window was crushed in her grip, leaving deep gouges in the wall. A low rumble built in the werewolf’s throat — and yet the man on the bed paid her no attention, not so much as twitching.

By now, Bai Youwei’s upper body was already halfway through the window.

All it would take was one kick of her legs — leap inside — and she could tear Hans apart. But his unnatural stillness made her hesitate.

Bai Youwei stopped. She fought to suppress the bloodthirsty urge coursing through her body and carefully studied the figure before her.

It was Hans, without question.

Same hairstyle, same build, same clothes. And though he sat there clutching that pot of flowers without moving a muscle, the scent was his.

After becoming a werewolf, Bai Youwei’s sense of smell was extraordinarily sharp. The person before her was unmistakably, undeniably Hans.

Perhaps this was just his tactic — feigning stillness deliberately, hoping to make her hesitate and hold back from attacking.

Or perhaps… this really was some kind of trap.

Night was only two hours long. She couldn’t afford to waste it on indecision.

She wasn’t sure whether it was the werewolf transformation, but her patience had grown razor-thin. She felt agitated, restless, furious at her own wavering — she wanted to crash in *now*, bite him apart!

Bai Youwei’s claws dug deeper into the wooden window frame. Flakes of gray-white plaster pattered to the ground.

She remembered the night before — crouching inside that wooden cabinet while the werewolf prowled outside, and ultimately missed the perfect chance to kill her.

Should she go in?

What if it’s a trap?

Go in…

Don’t go in…

Bai Youwei bit down, and slowly retreated.

She remembered something.

At the wildlife park, the White Glove had used a decoy prop to grievously wound Ashalina.

That prop could take on the exact likeness of its user — alive and breathing, indistinguishable from the real thing. And if the decoy was attacked, every point of damage would be reflected back onto the attacker.

Could Hans have a similar prop?

It was only a guess, but the more she thought about it, the more suspicious it seemed.

If not, why would Hans just sit there so calmly? Why leave the window wide open? Why not react at all, even when she was half inside?

Something was very wrong.

The doll game produced all manner of props. If Hans had gotten his hands on something with a similar decoy effect, it wouldn’t be surprising.

There was still time. Why not look elsewhere first? Maybe Hans was hiding in a different house.

Of course, there was also the possibility that the person in the house really was Hans — that he was simply bluffing, trying to lure her into suspicion and drive her somewhere else.

At night, villagers may not leave their homes.

That was fine.

If she found nothing elsewhere, she’d come back and deal with him. He wasn’t going anywhere.

Her mind made up, Bai Youwei left without hesitation and moved swiftly toward the other empty houses.

She had to be fast.

Night was only two hours long.

The village had over a hundred households, but only a dozen or so were empty. Bai Youwei wove through the low-roofed houses, and before long she caught something.

Through a window, she glimpsed the flash of Hans’ terrified face!

The werewolf’s teeth clicked together with a grinding snap. She moved like a rampaging beast, hurling herself forward — crashing straight through the door!

But when she got inside, she didn’t find the panic and desperation she had expected.

Hans stood in the middle of the room, sneering at her.

In his hand was a crossbow.

*Thwip — thwip — thwip!* Silver light flashed through the dim room. Three bolts in quick succession!

The werewolf’s massive body crashed to the floor!

Thick dust billowed into the air. A few seconds passed. Blood slowly began to flow.

“Heh…” In the silence, Hans let out a quiet laugh, dripping with contempt. “Foolish… Did you think I would come unprepared? I knew from the start you’d find a way to become a werewolf — it was exactly what I wanted. Humans are harder to exploit, but a werewolf’s weaknesses are obvious. Aren’t they?”
