The initial inspiration for writing wuxia came after watching the film The White-Haired Witch (Bai Fa Mo Nu Chuan). The image of the lone, white-haired woman standing atop a peak, so proud yet so lonely, left a lasting impression on my young mind. It was a feeling that lingered, so I picked up my pen. During that turbulent and rebellious period of youth, wuxia became a window to another world.

Living between two worlds inevitably made my student years quite perilous. The college entrance exam (Gao Kao) was barely passed, but life is not just about clearing this one hurdle. When worn out and exhausted, I would look ahead and see that one peak is always higher than the next. In the martial world, one is often not in control of their fate. You cannot afford to give up halfway, and this naturally gives rise to infinite resentment. Every time resentment overcomes me, I must vent it through my writing, and in doing so, regain the peace of mind needed to face the next challenge.

During this period, I also discovered the wonderful world of the internet. Looking back now, it’s obvious that during the years I spent posting online, my writing style has changed quite a lot. I must thank all my readers for their refinement of my craft. At the same time, I’ve become even more convinced that, indeed, the eyes of the public are sharp. They can detect any flaw…
