Chapter 65: Genius and Mediocrity

All the people of Muxing City held their breath, watching the scene intently.

The Realm of Dark Battle isolated the powerful Yuan Power attacks, but those outside could still faintly sense the tumultuous energy within.

Zuo Ping excelled in swift attacks, his movements fierce and his Yuan Power agile. To the naked eye, it was almost impossible to see the angle of his strikes. However, Ji Bozai across from him hadn’t moved his feet at all. The wind-blade Yuan Power dissipated into smoke as it fell near him.

He plucked a strand of Yuan Power, flipping his hand to throw it. Zuo Ping instinctively raised his wind blade to block, but unexpectedly, Yuan Power didn’t pass through the wind blade at all, instead directly twisting around his waist.

This force was far greater than a whip, nearly crushing his bones. Zuo Ping’s face turned pale as he immediately transformed his wind blade into a dagger to cut.

Usually, his Yuan Power blade could cut through anything, including others’ Yuan Power, after all, he was a superior fighter. But to his surprise, as the dagger slashed through, Ji Bozai’s wisp of Yuan Power, like a catkin, didn’t budge. He even heard the sound of his own dagger’s edge curling.

A chill ran down his spine as Zuo Ping looked up at his opponent in disbelief.

How could this be possible for someone barely twenty years old…

Gritting his teeth in frustration, he suddenly drew out eighty percent of his Yuan Power. The originally faint purple color suddenly became intense, transforming into countless steel needles flying toward Ji Bozai at extreme speed.

These needles were denser than raindrops, a sight that made one’s scalp tingle. The overwhelming aura made people’s hearts race. Yan Xiao and others in the seats couldn’t help but stand up, looking towards Ji Bozai.

Ji Bozai also moved his body, lifting his head slightly. Before he could dodge, his entire person was suddenly submerged by the steel needles. The massive impact force, like a waterfall, made the bluestone slabs crackle and pop, debris flying and the ground shaking.

“My Lord!” Xu Tianji cried out in fright, while commotion erupted all around.

“This is bad!” Xiu Yun angrily patted Ming Yi’s arm. “His fighting style is too shameless, Lord Ji doesn’t even have a place to dodge!”

Ming Yi, awakened by her sudden movements, couldn’t help but laugh, “If there’s no place to dodge, can’t he still use a shield to block? Why are you panicking?”

Xiu Yun glared at her fiercely, “You make it sound so easy. What shield could block so many attacks? These dense steel needles are piled up ten feet high, what shield wouldn’t be pierced?”

A black shield wouldn’t be pierced.

Ming Yi realized that although these people had high hopes for Ji Bozai, they seemed to know little about his abilities. In these six cities, the number of people who had a chance to kill Ji Bozai could be counted on one hand. Why did they all look as if the sky was falling?

It was one thing for the officials and nobles to react this way, but even Yan Xiao, Liang Xiuyuan, and others closest to Ji Bozai had grim expressions. Shu Zhonglin even wanted to go down to rescue him.

Shaking her head slightly, Ming Yi was about to look away and continue sleeping. But as her eyes swept across, she caught sight of Situ Ling sitting on the left side of the main seat.

Situ Ling was the only person on the Tage Platform who wasn’t staring at Ji Bozai.

His eyes were bright and smiling, looking directly at her over the thousands of distinguished guests. Seeing that she had noticed, he clasped his hands and nodded slightly to her.

Ming Yi’s eyelid twitched.

Situ Ling couldn’t use Yuan Power, he should be more worried about Ji Bozai. Why was he staring at her?

Belatedly remembering that she was supposed to be a little dancer deeply in love with Ji Bozai, Ming Yi tensed up. She immediately returned his greeting, then continued to “pretend to be strong” by looking around, while the corner of her eye “couldn’t help but” glanced towards Ji Bozai’s direction.

Compared to the shallow concern others showed on the surface, her worry seemed more layered.

Very good, perfect.

She gave herself a mental thumbs up.

“Cute, isn’t it?” Situ Ling said with a smile to Fu Yue beside him.

Fu Yue frowned, “My Lord, you should look over there first.”

“What’s there to see?” He pouted, displeased. “He won’t die.”

Fu Yue turned his head, about to say how could he not die, when suddenly a light burst forth from behind, startling him and making his pupils contract.

Such powerful Yuan Power.

The surrounding wind suddenly rose, birds seemed to sense it and flapped their wings to fly away. The waterfall of steel needles that had been rushing downwards suddenly stopped at a certain moment, then began to flow upwards, wrapped in an even more intense purple color.

When the last bunch of steel needles left the ground, Ji Bozai appeared unscathed in everyone’s view. His crimson gauze robe was intact, and even his shield hadn’t broken. A dark dragon coiled around his shield, opening its mouth to roar.

“…” The Yuan Power users in the audience all changed their expressions.

Black Yuan Power was already rare enough, but Ji Bozai could even form it into a dark dragon. The dragon looked so lifelike, showing the terrifying level of his control over Yuan Power.

How could anyone fight against this? Not just Zuo Ping, even if another Zheng Tiao came, he probably wouldn’t be a match for him.

Zuo Ping stared blankly at the purple waterfall rushing towards him, his face pale.

How could this be? He was over ten years older than Ji Bozai, had been diligently practicing every day, had read countless secret books and classics, and had participated in the Six Cities Conference every year. How could he not even manage to hurt him?

This was impossible, something must have gone wrong.

“Lord Zuo, be careful!” Bo Yuankui couldn’t help but warn him, his shield couldn’t block this waterfall.

However, Zuo Ping seemed to have received an incredibly heavy blow, standing there dazed and unable to react, watching helplessly as the world turned purple.

The Grand Minister on the main seat spoke just in time: “Bozai, that’s enough.”

The surging waterfall stopped abruptly an inch away from Zuo Ping and then began to make cracking sounds. Ji Bozai waved his hand, and countless purple fragments floated in the sunlight, shining like stars.

The audience gasped in amazement. The people of Muxing City excitedly reached out to grab those lights, while those from Yuyue City and Xincao City were silent and motionless.

This year, Muxing City wouldn’t be so easy to deal with.

Bo Yuankui, sitting to the side, lowered his eyes.

Originally, the two cities had agreed to come today to probe Ji Bozai’s abilities, but after Zuo Ping suffered such a great loss, he certainly wouldn’t go up to embarrass himself again.

Ji Bozai’s words weren’t wrong either. Xincao City had always been the last of the upper three cities, not much different from the lower three cities. As the leader of Yuyue City, why should he stoop to Xincao’s level?

Better to wait and see.

The Grand Minister was extremely satisfied, his eyes and brows full of smiles. But with outsiders present, he couldn’t show himself as inexperienced, so he maintained his composure and said to Ji Bozai, “You’ve come from afar as a guest, a little sparring is fine. Come back now.”

Ji Bozai nodded and walked leisurely back to his seat.

As he passed by Zuo Ping, he thought for a moment and decided to give him a way out by inviting him to sit together.

Unexpectedly, before he could open his mouth, he met Zuo Ping’s somewhat vicious gaze.
