Chapter 32: Attire

Pei Qian was stunned for a moment. “As expected, Assistant Yan is indeed thoughtful. I forgot about this!”

By conventional reasoning, the gaming industry placed the least importance on attire.

Many traditional industries and financial sectors highly value appearance during business negotiations.

From the clothes worn and watches sported to the cars driven, everything had requirements.

Some people spent tens of thousands on a custom-tailored suit—this was a necessity.

If one dressed inappropriately, the first impression would be poor, and how could business negotiations possibly succeed?

Similarly, in many traditional industries, wearing formal attire during recruitment and job applications was the most basic etiquette.

But the internet industry, especially the gaming industry, was different.

Many big bosses of gaming companies typically wore T-shirts and shorts to work.

Not to mention that many programmers during interviews maintained the standard configuration of T-shirts (or plaid shirts), jeans, slippers, and backpacks.

Due to the industry’s unique nature, more emphasis was placed on actual professional skills during interviews rather than appearance.

The overall atmosphere being such, most interviewees wouldn’t deliberately wear formal attire or ties; doing so would appear particularly jarring and out of place.

Therefore, Pei Qian had overlooked this point.

But with Assistant Yan’s reminder, Pei Qian reconsidered and realized he indeed needed proper attire.

First, it would be charged to the company account, allowing him to spend more money!

Second, it would help him better conduct his work moving forward.

Currently, Pei Qian was just a student who had barely turned eighteen a few months ago. Even with memories from ten years in the future, it was difficult to exude that weathered, mature, and steady temperament.

Age was a hard limiting factor—no matter how much a young, fresh-faced face tried to act, they couldn’t convey the aura of a workplace elite.

At this point, attire became particularly important.

It was like in some state-owned enterprises where older leaders could be approachable, but younger leaders always maintained stern expressions.

Why?

Because without a stern face, young leaders often lacked authority and couldn’t command respect from subordinates.

If subordinates didn’t take you seriously, how could work proceed?

Pei Qian was already young, a college student, while many of these interviewees were seasoned professionals with two or three years of work experience, making them six or seven years older than him.

If Pei Qian always wore T-shirts and shorts that cost just over ten yuan, would these people take him seriously?

Pei Qian indeed wanted to sabotage the game, but the specific method of “sabotage” had requirements!

The game at least needed to pass review and successfully launch; otherwise, the system would judge it as a violation.

To achieve this goal, Pei Qian still needed to exert control over these people and make them obedient.

This meant that Pei Qian still needed to establish his image.

Even if he couldn’t establish himself as a promising young genius designer, he had to establish himself as a wealthy second-generation who kept his word.

At this point, expensive attire became very necessary.

After all, logically speaking, wealthy second-generation heirs wouldn’t typically wear T-shirts and shorts that cost just over ten yuan every day.

Some individual wealthy heirs might dress that way, but it likely wouldn’t be the norm.

Xin Hailu smiled, “If you think it’s necessary, I can accompany you to a nearby mall to pick out some attire.”

This was exactly what Pei Qian wanted.

The Cayenne was parked in the underground lot of Jingzhou City’s largest mall.

Pei Qian opened the car door and stepped out.

“This way, please.”

Assistant Yan guided the way, ensuring Pei Qian received treatment befitting a CEO’s status.

This was Jingzhou’s largest and most luxurious mall, which Pei Qian had never visited before.

However, he didn’t mind such things; he was just there to buy attire, and he would wear whatever Assistant Yan bought.

Men and women approached shopping differently.

Women truly “browsed” when shopping at malls, going from the first floor to the top, covering everything, finding interest in whatever they saw—they enjoyed the process of “shopping.”

Men, on the other hand, headed straight for what they needed, bought it, and left without spending an extra second—they enjoyed the result of “shopping.”

Pei Qian was a standard straight man, so he naturally had no interest in shopping around. He just wanted to quickly buy some attire and then leave.

Assistant Yan clearly understood Pei Qian well and didn’t let him wander around. Instead, she headed directly to a luxury suit boutique.

“Jessiah is an Italian luxury fashion brand with over 100 years of history, renowned for its flawless fit, tailored cut, and custom measurements.”

“This is Jessiah’s only store in Handong.”

“If you’re not satisfied, I can find higher-end suits, though measuring and customizing might take more time.”

Xin Hailu briefly introduced the store’s background before entering.

“That’s fine, let’s go with this one.”

Pei Qian made an immediate decision.

For him, all custom suits were more or less the same.

Those interviewees could visibly distinguish between custom and non-custom suits—the former fitting well and high-end, the latter loose-fitting and cheap.

The former resembled Wall Street elites, the latter insurance salespeople.

But they would find it difficult to differentiate between the two types of custom suits.

Simply put, spending more money would yield minimal additional benefits.

So, the suits here met Pei Qian’s requirements, and crucially, they could be ready quickly, which Pei Qian preferred.

Although Pei Qian was currently wearing a T-shirt and shorts that cost just over ten yuan, he walked into this store with his head held high, feeling no discomfort.

The reason remained the same—because Xin Hailu was by his side.

“While your physique allows for any style, I still recommend these three sets.”

Xin Hailu left the saleswoman aside and displayed an intimate knowledge of the suits here.

“Of these three sets, the first is more formal, suitable for key occasions like business negotiations with other bosses or award ceremonies; the latter two are more casual for everyday wear.”

The implication was that the latter two were mainly for impressing those interviewees.

When interviewing others, one needn’t dress too formally, but shouldn’t look shabby either.

This included day-to-day work, where Pei Qian needed to give employees the impression of a wealthy and authoritative second-generation heir, allowing work to proceed smoothly.

The system didn’t issue any warning.

Pei Qian nodded, “That works.”

Xin Hailu turned to the saleswoman, “Then please bring two of each set, with varied patterns and accessories. We can take measurements now, as soon as possible.”

Two of each set???

Well done!

Pei Qian nearly blurted out.

But he held back.

The system didn’t prompt anything, indicating no violation!

The saleswoman hurriedly came to measure Pei Qian’s dimensions.

This wasn’t purely handcrafted customization, which would have taken several weeks per suit—too troublesome.

The suits here were categorized by dozens of body measurements, selecting the most suitable pattern based on the client’s physical data.

This way, they could deliver in a very short time.

While being measured by the saleswoman, Pei Qian didn’t dare to browse openly, only sneaking a glance at the price tag on a nearby suit.

One, two, three, four, five.

Five digits, and the first digit wasn’t a 1.

And they were buying six such suits.

Hmm…

Pei Qian felt his arithmetic skills had seriously deteriorated.

Having obtained Pei Qian’s measurements, Xin Hailu smiled and said, “Since your work is so busy, shall we stop here for today? I’ll purchase some everyday clothes for you later, so you won’t need to come select them personally.”

That would be great!

Pei Qian was very pleased.

Look, look, this is what professionalism means!

“Assistant Yan, please arrange as you see fit.”
