Cui Geng’s “Completion Announcement” was very simple.
“I am ‘Desperate Word-Typing Tentacle Monster,’ and I have some heartfelt words to share with everyone.”
“I know many friends hope this book could reach two million, three million, or even five million words, or never end.”
“But my experience writing fantasy novels isn’t extensive. This book’s structure was only designed to be so big from the beginning. The most exciting content would be mostly complete in about 700,000-800,000 words, or padding it out to a million at most.”
“You may have noticed the plot accelerating recently. This is because I’ve already written nearly 700,000 words and am approaching the conclusion.”
“I’m afraid it would be too sudden if I ended the book without warning, and you wouldn’t be able to accept it. So I’m announcing now that the book may conclude within a week or two. Please prepare yourselves mentally.”
“A new book is still in preparation. I’ll report to everyone as soon as I have a plan.”
Sure enough, the review section was already filled with lamentations.
Cui Geng resolutely closed the Endpoint Chinese Web APP process without looking at the readers’ comments.
Anyway, he could easily imagine what kind of comments they would be.
“I’ll take the criticism. As long as I don’t read the comments, those curses don’t exist.”
“Even if I’m criticized, I still need to write this idea!”
“I can vaguely feel that this idea will be the brightest highlight moment since I started writing books!”
Cui Geng opened the computer, created a new document, and quickly wrote down his idea.
Although the upper limit of urban themes isn’t as high as traditional fantasy and immortal cultivation themes, there are still a few readers. It’s a popular theme.”
“However, most of the current urban themes mostly focus on mindless showing off, ambiguous relationships, with themes centered around military heroes, campus beauties, and the like.”
“This doesn’t fit the story I want to write.”
“It can’t be mindless showing off, nor can it have too heavy a preachy tone, as that doesn’t match the characteristics of this idea.”
“So, the story I want to write should have a humorous and witty tone.”
“What I give readers isn’t the traditional satisfaction, but a feeling like God, controlling everything…”
As Cui Geng conceived the idea, he quickly thought of a good story outline.
The book would be called “The Butterfly Game.”
The protagonist didn’t have a name yet; anyway, he was just a tool character.
One day, while the protagonist was being a slacker at home, suddenly a system descended from the sky, a blue light ball crashed into his head and merged with him.
He discovered he could summon this light ball at will, and through this light ball, freely observe events happening in a parallel world.
This light ball came with a game called “Butterfly Game,” named after the “Butterfly Effect.”
The protagonist wasn’t the creator of this parallel world.
He had certain permissions in the game, but could only make some very shallow modifications to this parallel world, like a butterfly gently flapping its wings in the Amazon jungle.
And the goal of the game was to create a series of chain reactions through these shallow modifications, having a huge impact on people or events in the parallel world.
In the end, the game would score the protagonist’s techniques based on the magnitude of the impact and issue rewards according to the score.
This cycle continued, and the protagonist’s permissions became higher and higher, with the scope of influence becoming wider and wider.
Thus, under the butterfly effect continuously created by the protagonist, many people’s dreams were realized by coincidence…
Cui Geng even quickly thought of how to write the first small plot point.
He wanted to write about a poor but never-giving-up independent game developer.
This game developer was impoverished. The games he made, though with simple materials, were full of sincerity.
However, he had no money for promotion, so nobody paid attention.
Under helpless circumstances, this game developer had already decided to give up his dream and honestly go to work at the factory his family had arranged.
The protagonist discovered him while observing the parallel world, and through his permissions, found a game section content creator and used his cheat ability to make this content creator “happen” to download the game and play it.
Under the spontaneous promotion of this content creator, the game suddenly became popular, from then on unstoppable, and this independent game developer could continue pursuing his dream because of this.
Of course, this was just the beginning of the story, relatively simple.
As the plot continued to develop, there would be more complex stories.
For example, there was a very wealthy antagonist in the book, the owner of a super large multinational company, who always liked to acquire various well-received game companies around the world, squeezing the last bit of value from these companies.
To make these game companies face debt crises and have to sell themselves to him, this major antagonist would often play some tricks, either planting moles in the companies or defaming them online. In short, to suppress the companies he targeted, he would stop at nothing.
And the protagonist’s task was to change some details through the butterfly effect he controlled, making this major antagonist’s goals ultimately fail, letting these conscientious game companies avoid being maliciously acquired.
In short, the protagonist would use his cheat ability to influence some people in this parallel world through this “butterfly effect” approach, allowing them to fulfill their dreams.
These people could be from any industry; they could be game developers, entrepreneurs, internet café owners, singers, actors, directors, authors…
Various identities like these.
Over time, the people the protagonist had helped would also help and influence each other, making the development of events more unpredictable.
When many supporting characters gradually grew, and their life trajectories gradually overlapped, the butterfly effect controlled by the protagonist could exert greater influence.
For example, a child who might have dropped out of school, due to the protagonist’s butterfly effect, received support from kind-hearted people, completed high school, graduated from university with excellent grades, completed his PhD and post-doctoral work, and participated in the development of an important project.
After this project was successfully developed, it created a new trend;
And another supporting character’s company, originally on the brink of bankruptcy, was revived and soared because of this trend, becoming an industry giant, profoundly changing the way of life in this world…
In short, the parallel world was thus transformed by the protagonist through one butterfly effect after another into a better world.
…
After writing out all these ideas, Cui Geng carefully read through them several times, evaluating them thoroughly.
“Not having traditional satisfaction points comes with great risks.”
“But, this also means opportunity, because no one has written this kind of content in urban themes yet.”
“Readers don’t identify with the protagonist but adopt a God’s perspective. Watching the entire parallel world changing by coincidence due to the effect of one butterfly effect after another—this kind of plot should make readers unpredictable, full of expectations for future twists.”
“The book doesn’t have those stiff showing-off and face-slapping scenes, only supporting characters achieving their dreams and a world getting better and better.”
“The overall style of this book will be humorous and witty, light and casual, which should appeal to some readers who are tired of the ‘don’t bully the poor young man’ trope.”
“Many business stories can be drawn from. There are many similar stories, domestic and foreign, where coincidences built business empires.”
“Even many aspects of the Tenda Group could be used as prototypes. Reality is more exciting than fiction…”
The more Cui Geng thought about it, the more promising it seemed!
This idea had flaws; it couldn’t be said to be perfect.
But what idea is perfect?
Innovation always comes with risks.
Thinking of this, Cui Geng sent the document to his email, then deleted the document saved on the computer.
Ideas are crucial to authors. Once seen by others and spread, if someone else writes it first, that would be a big problem.
After everything was settled, Cui Geng looked at his phone. It was just quitting time.
He stood up and walked out.
After returning, he would focus on concluding his current book first.
The framework wasn’t that big to begin with. Writing about 8,000 words a day, he could probably finish the planned content in a little over a week.
Then he would decisively end the book. He’d take the criticism, quickly start a new book, and act as if nothing had happened.
For the sake of this new idea, he’d accept the criticism!
Cui Geng left the game room and happened to meet Mr. Pei, who had just rushed back to the company.
Seeing Cui Geng just coming out of the game room, Pei Qian’s smile became even brighter: “Come, let me treat you to a meal!”
Cui Geng was startled: “Ah? But Mr. Pei…”
“No buts, just come with me.”
Mr. Pei didn’t allow any objections, took Cui Geng to the car, and prepared to have a big meal at the Mingfu Family Banquet.
Sitting in the car, Cui Geng wondered: “Mr. Pei looks very happy.”
“Could it be that he already knows today’s Tenda spirit training was successful?”
“Does he want to treat me to a meal to give me some encouragement?”
