Chapter 182: Performance at the Gate of Changshou

Taking the southern sea route, Li Changshou traveled eastward.

Before departing, concerned about encountering Zhao Gongming and his group, Li Changshou traveled using water teleportation, keeping close to the South Sea coast.

Three days later, he reached the East Sea region, having journeyed smoothly thus far. He had previously asked Ao Yi about the location of the Three Immortals Island—from the southeastern corner of the Southern Continent, travel east for 160,000 li, then south for 60,000 li, until reaching an area shrouded in clouds and mist. That would be the outer formation of the Three Immortals Island.

Within the Severing Sect, countless people knew the island’s location, and countless admirers yearned for the Three Sisters, but throughout history, very few had managed to set foot on the island…

When Li Changshou reached the depths of the East Sea, this paper avatar consumed about one-tenth of its immortal power. To present himself in the best condition when meeting the renowned Immortal Lady Yunxiao, Li Changshou took out a new paper avatar from his sleeve and replaced his current form as he approached the island’s location.

Then, emerging from the seawater, he rode clouds toward the Three Immortals Island. While contemplating what situations he might encounter, Li Changshou noticed some previously overlooked details…

For instance, among the famous masters of the 阐教 Sect, except for Master Cihang and a few others, most were male immortals. However, among the famous masters of the Severing Sect Sect, three of the Eight Main Disciples under the Sage were Female Immortals—Golden Spirit Holy Mother, Turtle Spirit Holy Mother, and Wudang Holy Mother. The Three Sisters of the Outer Disciples were even more noteworthy, with female immortals being predominant.

Li Changshou privately joked about a certain Pure Yang elder in his own Human Sect. Their Grand Master’s approach to pursuing dao companions was misguided—he should have looked outside the Human Sect but within the Dao community…

If there were more dao companion relationships between the 阐教 and Severing Sect Sects, it could both diminish the cultivators’ competitive spirit, delaying the Heaven’s Tribulation and fostering feelings between the two sects, making them reluctant to fight each other during the Investiture of the Gods.

In the original Investiture of the Gods, old Daoists would shout:

“Better you than me, today I’ll send you to the list!”

But after the Grand Master’s dao companion initiative, the Investiture of the Gods would have handsome men and beautiful women on the mortal battlefield of the Shang-Zhou war, gazing at each other tenderly.

“Beloved, you are cold-hearted and unreasonable—you should take a trip to the Divine List.”

“No, you are the cold-hearted and unreasonable one, yet you accuse me of being cold-hearted and unreasonable—you should be the one going to the Divine List…”

Li Changshou nearly laughed out loud. Of course, this was just private mockery of the Grand Master, something he would never dare say aloud…

Although Grand Master Xuandu was considered the senior brother of the Dao community, it would still be difficult for him to influence both the Severing Sect and 阐教 Sects.

No more jokes. He should quickly eliminate the hidden danger of the scamming group, return to his sect peacefully, and focus on dragon affairs while preparing for the Golden Immortal Tribulation.

After half a day of cloud riding, Li Changshou spotted a wall of clouds in the distance. No wonder the Severing Sect immortals said the Three Immortals Island was easy to find—the cloud wall had a diameter exceeding a thousand li, with rich spiritual energy and immortal light surrounding several thousand li. Even sea creatures in this area were more spiritual than in other regions.

As long as one wasn’t completely off course, searching with immortal consciousness would lead to this place…

Two thousand li from the cloud wall’s edge, Li Changshou tried extending his immortal consciousness to probe the wall. Strangely, his consciousness penetrated without any resistance, but he could only see whiteness…

The closer he got, the wider the range his consciousness could probe, and the more surprised Li Changshou became. When he was close enough for his consciousness to completely envelop the thousand-li cloud formation…

There were no barriers, no formation fluctuations, just pure clouds without any islands within. The only peculiarity was the rich spiritual energy, comparable to legendary blessed lands…

Li Changshou pondered quietly for a while. Having come this far, he should at least try. So Li Changshou’s paper avatar flew back and forth through the thousand-li diameter cloud wall several times, finding neither danger nor gain. Not even a single reef was found.

Even for a rare natural formation, there should be an entrance point…

In the Four Arts of the Immortal Path—cons, tricks, schemes, and deceptions… *cough* In formations, pills, artifacts, and talismans, Li Changshou was most deeply versed in formations…

This allowed him to see that the formations here far exceeded his understanding. This was truly a formation by a grandmaster! Among the Three Sisters, one must be extremely accomplished in the Dao of formations!

However, this had nothing to do with him, so he just casually praised it to show respect for the Three Sisters’ cultivation.

After contemplating the sea surface briefly, Li Changshou quickly devised a plan…

He couldn’t directly announce himself as the Human Sect’s Junior Law Master; this paper avatar was using the South Sea God skin, which would cause some trouble if exposed here.

Currently, his three main character routes are very clear:

South Sea God, leader of the Sea God Sect, the image of a wise and resourceful old immortal, one of the Jade Emperor’s future advisors, with a Human Sect background;

Human Sect Junior Law Master, middle-aged Daoist image, walking outside with his true cultivation level, an avatar specifically for running errands for Doushuai Palace, mainly following the Grand Master around;

Ordinary disciple of the Degree Immortal Gate… this was Li Changshou’s deepest disguise.

Others, like the cold-faced Daoist from the “Dragon Washing Case” and the nameless self-destructing artist during the Degree Immortal Gate’s tribulation, were one-time personas that would never appear again.

Back to the matter at hand.

To reach the Three Immortals Island indeed required some thought, but fortunately, Li Changshou had prepared for this beforehand.

He first called out, controlling his voice to spread only within the cloud wall:

“Is anyone home at the Three Immortals Island?”

Naturally, there was no response.

Li Changshou remained calm, taking out a stack of paper figures from his sleeve and scattering them, transforming them into six figures, both male and female.

Two young men in short robes, each holding a suona horn.

Two women in plain long dresses, took out joss paper commonly used for grave worship, lighting them in copper basins. They knelt before the basins, holding handkerchiefs and beginning to wail.

Two white-haired Daoists, one holding a soul-capturing bell, one holding a wooden fish, swaying and striking, each chanting the mantra for the deceased…

Li Changshou sighed deeply, and the two paper figures began playing the suona horns. Enhanced by immortal power, the penetrating mournful music resonated throughout the cloud wall.

This trick was very effective, though it might result in a beating…

Shortly after, Li Changshou heard a light rebuke from within the cloud wall, in a somewhat childish female voice:

“Who are you? What are you doing here? This is too inauspicious!”

The clouds swirled, and a young woman in a light yellow short dress stepped forward, slightly angry and pouting, glaring at this kind-faced thin elder.

Li Changshou immediately raised his hand, and the six paper figures stopped their actions, frozen in place.

Then, Li Changshou sighed long and said in an elderly voice: “Is this the Three Immortals Island, the dwelling place of the Three Sisters?”

“Since you know, how dare you cause trouble here!” the young woman snorted, “If not for seeing you’re elderly, the whip Third Lady gave me would already be striking! Leave quickly! How unlucky!”

Li Changshou sighed: “I’ve come thousands of miles here for just two matters. The first matter is to mourn for Friend Gongming. Since the Three Immortals Island doesn’t allow it, I shall leave.”

With that, his sleeves billowed, and the six paper figures returned to their original form, jumping back into his sleeve.

“What nonsense are you speaking!” the young woman became angry, “My master is doing very well! Why would he need your mourning? Pah pah, crow’s mouth!”

Li Changshou shook his head, “Though he’s fine now, a tribulation is coming soon.”

Snap!

The young woman took out a short whip and scolded: “Say one more word of nonsense, and I’ll have to teach you a lesson today!”

“When did I speak nonsense?” Li Changshou sighed: “Is your Lady Qiongxiao not on the island?”

The young woman was stunned, then said: “So what if she isn’t? Perhaps you saw her somewhere and think this will get you onto the island? Not a chance!”

“In that case, why don’t we make a bet?” Li Changshou took out that visiting card from his sleeve and used immortal power to pass it to the young woman.

“I’ll wait here, you can take this to someone in charge on the island. If they decide not to see me, I’ll leave immediately, never to return.”

The young woman’s face showed suspicion as she took the cloth in hand.

Li Changshou added: “It’s just letting your superior look at this letter, there’s no loss to your Three Immortals Island. But if we delay further, Friend Gongming might be in great trouble!”

“You! Speaking nonsense again!”

The young woman swung her short whip and scolded:

“Fine! I’ll let you give up today! However my lady scolds me later, I’ll come back and scold you the same way!”

With that, the young woman turned and returned to the cloud wall, her form disappearing after just two steps…

Li Changshou keenly detected the subtle changes in spiritual energy flow here, extremely complex.

But, that young woman just now…

Li Changshou pondered, feeling slightly suspicious.

From her behavior, she was either a maid enlightened by the Three Sisters or a being cultivating on the Three Immortals Island.

But strangely, this young woman gave him an odd feeling…

Celestial Immortal cultivation, flawless speech, somewhat spoiled personality, that adorable face, and graceful figure.

All gave Li Changshou a very familiar feeling.

This feeling was as if he was setting appearance and personality parameters for his paper avatars.

Indeed, this young woman gave him the feeling of being too templated!

It was like a performance, with perfect acting and detailed execution, but lacking emotional investment…

Li Changshou remained inwardly vigilant while standing motionless, ready to self-destruct at any moment.

Moments later, the cloud wall changed again.

That young woman hurriedly flew over, and upon seeing Li Changshou, her eyes showed timidity and some shame as she bowed to Li Changshou…

The young woman immediately said: “Elder, please forgive me, I failed to recognize Mount Tai, not knowing this was your avatar. My First Lady is in closed cultivation and cannot be disturbed, but the Third Lady has read your letter and invites you to the island for a discussion. Elder, please follow me.”

Li Changshou nodded, following behind the young woman without showing any reaction.

This time entering, the clouds ahead gradually changed, and Li Changshou, originally flying above the sea, somehow found himself on a winding path…

Stepping on it, the surrounding clouds gradually dispersed, and he appeared at the edge of a spiritual island.

Is this the Three Immortals Island?

He tried to use his immortal consciousness to scan the surroundings, but some formation here restricted his consciousness to within three zhang, unable to expand…

The young woman led the way, taking Li Changshou along the path through many turns, arriving at an elegant courtyard.

The young woman opened the courtyard gate and lowered her head:

“Elder, please enter on your own, my Third Lady is waiting for you here.”

Li Changshou said gently: “I apologize for any offense earlier, please don’t mind.”

“It’s fine, it’s fine, please go ahead.”

The young woman quickly waved her hands, lowering her head and retreating.

Li Changshou seemed completely unaware of anything as he stepped through the gate, but inwardly he sighed…

After walking a few steps, a wisp of cloud unknowingly wrapped around him;

Then, Li Changshou had a moment of dizziness, unconsciously walking to the back courtyard, where there was a spiritual pool shrouded in mist before him.

Water sounds softly echoed from the pool, where a graceful figure had her back to Li Changshou, sitting in the pool quietly combing her long hair…

The scene, naturally, cannot be described;

This image, certainly wouldn’t be allowed to broadcast…

But Li Changshou remained very calm inside, having only one thought—

Such a good back, it would be a waste not to apply fire cupping.

“Hmm?”

The graceful figure combing her hair suddenly noticed something, slightly turned her head to look, and then let out a scream!

She turned her face around, but it was incredibly ugly, with a bloody mouth and an inverted gourd-shaped face, even more stone-pomegranate-sister than Ruhua…

This woman shouted: “Impudent one! You’ve seen my body, you must marry me!”

Li Changshou remained silent, quietly raised his hand, and slapped his own forehead, immediately falling backward, and lying motionless on the ground.

The immortal power on the paper avatar was rapidly dispersing, its form transforming into a half-chi tall, one-cun thick paper figure.

The woman in the pool froze, and a stream of immortal light flowed, transforming into a jade frog falling into the pool, kicking its legs and quickly swimming away.

Then came loud laughter from outside the wall, as the young woman who had led the way flipped over the wall, laughing so hard she shook like flower branches.

“Hahaha, actually scared to death!

Whose avatar is this, with such a fragile dao heart?

Hahaha! I had arranged so many steps afterward, even prepared the bridal chamber for you, truly blessed you, you unfortunate old Daoist!”

Suddenly, a sigh sounded behind this young woman.

“Friend, I truly have urgent matters to discuss with your elder sister…”

The laughing young woman suddenly froze, tilted her head, and looked at the paper figure on the ground.

Only to see that the broken paper figure was directly pushed aside, and another paper figure jumped out, its form swaying, quickly transforming into the kind-faced old immortal from before, looking at the young woman before him with complete helplessness.

“Please, Immortal Lady Bixiao, help convey my message.”
