Extra Chapter: Reminiscence of Dreams — Fleeting Beauty, Several Seasons of Melancholy 4

Queen Yuwen, who was seeing Princess Chang off outside the palace, saw Yu Wensang in men’s clothing glaring at two men in the plaza outside the imperial palace and immediately understood the situation.

Hearing Queen Yuwen’s call, Yu Wensang inwardly cursed her bad luck, but with the matter already before her, she could only glare fiercely at Zi Feng once more before reluctantly turning around with a bitter expression to look up at Queen Yuwen, “Queen Mother!”

“Hmph… I knew you wouldn’t stay quietly in the palace.” Queen Yuwen glared at Yu Wensang, who quickly and carefully climbed the steps to stand behind Queen Yuwen.

Seeing Yu Wensang position herself behind her, Queen Yuwen’s expression softened again as she cupped her hands toward Zi Feng and Bai Zhi below the steps, “Sanger is mischievous. I apologize for troubling you, two immortal lords.”

Bai Zhi smiled gently and stepped forward with cupped hands, “Your Majesty is too kind. We mistook the Princess for a thief earlier—we were the ones who acted improperly.”

After speaking, Bai Zhi politely bowed to Yu Wensang, while Zi Feng still stared at Yu Wensang in disbelief. Yu Wensang followed Zi Feng’s gaze and glared fiercely back at him.

“Your Majesty, we still have matters to attend to, so we won’t disturb you further. Farewell!” After speaking, Bai Zhi politely cupped his hands, then mounted his horse, with Zi Feng following suit.

“Boy! Don’t let me encounter you again!” Yu Wensang took advantage of Zi Feng mounting his horse to harshly deliver this threat.

Hearing these words, Zi Feng immediately showed a smug smile on his face, turning his head and raising his eyebrows, “Hearing you say that makes me want to encounter you again!” After speaking, Zi Feng laughed loudly as he spurred his horse away, leaving Yu Wensang stamping her feet in anger.

“Go back…” Queen Yuwen glared down at Yu Wensang behind her. Before she could finish speaking, Yu Wensang immediately interjected, “One month of house arrest, I’ll go right away!”

After saying this, Yu Wensang ran toward her room at lightning speed, hoping Queen Yuwen would see her good attitude and not add another month to her punishment.

Sure enough, Yu Wensang was confined for one month!

“Sigh… sigh…” This was Yu Wensang’s twentieth sigh as she sat on the stone, staring at the azure blue sky above. She boredly picked up a small pebble and tossed it into the pool water, creating ripples that spread in circles.

Casually plucking a bamboo leaf to place at her lips, she had only blown two notes when the flute sound responded in harmony from outside the courtyard. Yu Wensang’s spirits suddenly lifted, but she didn’t stop playing. Instead, she felt much more peaceful and continued blowing the melody slowly along with the flute sound.

“Princess…” Huayi called out while running, interrupting Yu Wensang’s music.

Yu Wensang turned her head, somewhat annoyed, “What are you shouting about?”

Huayi stopped breathlessly in front of Yu Wensang, “The Princes have returned.”

“What? My brothers are back!” Yu Wensang jumped down from the stone excitedly and ran toward the front hall without asking further questions.

“Brothers!” Yu Wensang excitedly ran into the front hall and saw a row of handsome men sitting properly at the table. They had heroic yet elegant features, outstanding temperament, and slightly deep eyes that sparkled with intelligent light. Their dark blue scholar robes made their faces appear like bright jade.

“Sanger…” The Third Prince smiled and patted Yu Wensang’s back.

“Third Brother, I thought you wouldn’t return to the manor until next month.” Yu Wensang stepped back slightly, smiling as she spoke.

The Second Prince showed a loving smile, pinching Yu Wensang’s nose, “Your birthday is in ten days. Naturally, we had to rush back to give you a great gift.”

“Oh? Really? What do you want to give me?” Yu Wensang immediately became interested.

The First Prince had Yu Wensang sit beside him, “We can’t tell you that right now. When your birthday comes, you’ll naturally know.”

“Stingy!” Yu Wensang pursed her lips and pretended to be angry as she turned her face away.

The Fourth Prince also came forward, smiling as he patted Yu Wensang’s head and handed her a small jade dog, “Play with this for now. I heard Mother Queen confined you—don’t go causing trouble again!”

Yu Wensang accepted the little dog, which looked quite beautiful, but thinking about her confinement, she hung her head, “It’s all because of those two guys meddling in other people’s business. Otherwise, how would Queen Mother have found out?”

“Still talking like that! If you hadn’t climbed over the wall yourself, how would any of this have happened?” King Yuwen had somehow emerged from the inner room with a smile. The three princes immediately stood and bowed.

“Father King!” All the princes and Yu Wensang respectfully bowed, and King Yuwen smiled as he gestured for them to dispense with formalities. “How did this expedition outside the clan go?”

“Father King, the human emperor has been waging constant wars. Now, the mortal realm is full of wandering souls. Our teams work day and night to guide souls and perform transcendence rituals, but there are too many wronged souls who refuse to comply. We’re also finding it very difficult.” The First Prince respectfully replied.

Listening to the princes and Father King’s questions and answers, Yu Wensang couldn’t interject. Suddenly thinking of something, she bowed and excused herself, running back to her palace.

Seeing the palace courtyard empty, Yu Wensang quietly climbed up the wall again, blowing a bamboo leaf while trying hard to look outside to see what the person who harmonized with her looked like. But she heard no response for a long time—outside, there were only rows of willow trees and a pond lake across the way, nothing else. It seemed that when Yu Wensang had broken off the music earlier, that person had already left.

“What a pity!” Yu Wensang sighed. Just as she was about to step on the stones to climb down, a face with sword-like brows, starry eyes, and extraordinary handsomeness suddenly appeared before her, frightening Yu Wensang so much that she fell backward.

“Come up!” Just as Yu Wensang felt herself falling, her arm was suddenly pulled by a force. After a moment of being airborne, her feet swayed and landed on the ground again. Yu Wensang looked around and immediately understood—she was actually on the other side of the wall. She was both shocked and angry.

“You… you brought me outside!” Yu Wensang thought that if Queen Mother found out now, she’d be confined for another month.

Zi Feng proudly lifted his chin and clapped his hands. “You don’t need to thank me. I saw you having such a hard time climbing the wall, so I helped you. Just a small favor!”

“You… you…” Yu Wensang was so angry she couldn’t speak. She pushed hard against Zi Feng’s back and turned around to look up at how to get back in.

Zi Feng staggered a step from the unexpected push, immediately turning around angrily, “I helped you, and even if you don’t thank me, how can you be so rude!”

Yu Wensang looked around for a way to get back up. Usually when she snuck out in men’s clothing, she could just climb a tree to get back, but today she was wearing a long skirt and couldn’t climb trees. While worrying about this, hearing Zi Feng’s words made her even angrier as she glared at him, “A dog catching mice—meddling in other people’s business! Now look what happened, I can’t get back!”

“You girl, how do you talk? You’re the mouse, but I’m certainly not a dog!”

“You’re the mouse! Quickly send me back!” Yu Wensang didn’t want to argue with him further.

Zi Feng pursed his lips, “Aren’t you a princess? If you want to go back, just go back.” Zi Feng turned to leave, but Yu Wensang immediately grabbed his sleeve, “No! If I enter through the main palace gate, Mother Queen will know I left the palace and will think I snuck out to play again. That’s at least another month of confinement!”

Zi Feng let out a long “oh” and immediately turned around with a squinting smile, “So that’s how it is. I thought you were about to climb over the wall to come out again—turns out you’re under house arrest.”

“Now that you know, send me back quickly!” Yu Wensang glared as she spoke, feeling both like crying and laughing inside.

Zi Feng looked at Yu Wensang’s glaring expression, smiled as he crossed his arms, and leisurely leaned against the willow tree, “I only know how to come down, not how to go up! What should we do?”

“You…” Yu Wensang knew he was deliberately teasing her.

Zi Feng suddenly stood up and moved close to Yu Wensang, “Since you’re already out anyway, play enough before going back. Compared to your struggling to climb over the wall, I’ve helped you tremendously!”

Yu Wensang turned her head away sharply, “Who cares! Last time I wanted to go out, you sent me back and I got confined for a month. Now I don’t want to go out, but you brought me out, and going back will be another month of confinement! I must have encountered a ghost!”

Zi Feng laughed heartily, his eyes narrowing into slits, “How about this—today I’ll take you to the heavenly streets to play, and later I’ll send you back. Consider it compensation for ruining your plans last time. How about it?”

Yu Wensang looked around, not wanting to be threatened by him, but unable to find a way back. A thought arose in her mind, so she put away the fierce expression on her face, “Fine! You said it yourself—after playing, you’ll send me back. You better not regret it!”

“Naturally, it’s true!” Zi Feng raised his eyebrows in response.

“Since you’re taking me to play, then don’t go to the heavenly streets. I want to go to the mortal realm, to the streets of mortals.”

“This…”

“Hmph, you can’t do it, can you?”

“Fine, I’ll take you to see the human world.”
