Upon entering Earth-Snake’s room, everyone determined which wall to break through.
These walls were made of old wood and looked indeed very fragile.
According to White Snake, these walls and rooms were very strange—the soundproofing was sometimes good, sometimes bad, sometimes present, sometimes absent.
Earth-Tiger wanted to step forward and shatter the wall with one punch, but White Snake stopped him.
“This is my room. I’ll do it myself.”
After saying this, he turned back, wanting everyone to step back a bit, but saw Yan Zhichun’s face full of sorrow, her eyes red with tears.
“Hey…? What’s wrong with you now, silly girl?”
“Ah…?” Yan Zhichun seemed unaware she had been crying. She reached up to touch her cheek. “Oh no… I’m…”
“Did you just touch me?” Earth-Snake asked again.
“Uh…”
“You can’t blame me for this. Go cry over there for a bit.”
Earth-Snake shook his head, rolled up his sleeves, and faced the wall.
Then he reached out his hand and swung it fiercely. The fragile wall instantly showed a large hole.
The other side was indeed another room.
He worked quickly, enduring the heartache as he tore the wallpaper, then gradually enlarged the hole until it was big enough for one person to pass through before stopping.
“Who lives next door?” Earth-Tiger asked.
“Don’t know.” White Snake said. “Rarely hear any sounds. It’s even possible no one lives there.”
Several people passed through the hole in the wall one after another and came to the adjacent room to look around. This room had some furniture, but it was already covered in dust. It was indeed possible, as White Snake said, that no one lived here at all.
After all, “Earth-level” also had a probability of death. Perhaps one day these “Zodiacs” died outside while working, and the room was completely abandoned afterward.
“This method is good.” Earth-Tiger said with a smile. “If we keep breaking through like this, we can definitely bypass the crowd.”
“I have an ominous premonition.” Yan Zhichun said. “We might encounter other ‘Zodiacs’…”
“It’s fine.” Earth-Tiger shook his head, saying reassuringly, “Among ‘Earth-level,’ there aren’t many who can take me down.”
After speaking, he came to the wall opposite the hole, made eye contact with everyone, had them step back a few paces, then swung his iron-pillar-like arm and struck fiercely at the wooden wall.
This strike was completely different from White Snake’s attack—blunt and heavy, instantly causing cracks to appear all over the wall.
Earth-Tiger felt he’d made too much commotion, so he extended his fist again, aimed at the center of the wall, and quickly threw a punch.
A hole the size of a washbasin appeared, but inside the hole didn’t show the room on the other side of the wall. Instead, it was pitch black.
Earth-Tiger pressed his huge head against the hole to look, and after holding back for a long time, squeezed out three words—
“Lights turned off?”
“The hell with lights turned off.” White Snake said with furrowed brows. “Are you sure there’s a room on the other side?”
“This…”
Earth-Tiger stared into the hole for a long time. In a very, very distant place, he seemed to see tiny specks of light, but couldn’t confirm it was a room.
Then he stuck his head inside and looked down. Because it was so dark inside, he couldn’t even see the ground.
“Forget it… can’t worry about so much. I’ll go in and take a look!”
Earth-Tiger reached out to brutally demolish the wooden wall, revealing a space roughly large enough for himself to pass through, then was about to step inside.
“Wait a moment!”
Yan Zhichun stepped forward and grabbed Earth-Tiger. She didn’t know why, but looking at this hole always made her feel uneasy, as if something was wrong, though she couldn’t explain the reason.
She turned back to look at the hole behind them. That one clearly could lead to Earth-Snake’s room. So where did the hole before them lead?
“What’s wrong, little sister?” Earth-Tiger and Old Sun asked in unison.
“I always feel something’s not right…” Yan Zhichun thought for a moment. “Earth-Tiger, try throwing a piece of wood inside.”
“Throw wood? Right… makes sense.” Earth-Tiger understood Yan Zhichun’s meaning, then picked up a piece of wall debris from the ground and threw it into the hole.
What no one anticipated was that after the wood entered the hole, it kept falling and never hit the ground.
“Holy shit…” Earth-Tiger’s tiger fur stood on end when he saw this scene. “What is this thing… a cliff?”
Yan Zhichun narrowed her eyes, reaching up to cup her chin with her hand.
“The rooms on the ‘train’… aren’t they built symmetrically…?” she said.
“What do you mean?” Earth-Tiger turned to ask.
“I mean…” Yan Zhichun didn’t know how to express the current situation. She could only search around the room and indeed found paper and pen.
So she quickly sketched out the situation she suspected on the notebook.
“I suspect Earth-Snake’s room and the room before us are actually one whole unit, just separated by the wall in the middle.” Yan Zhichun pointed to the diagram she drew. “And the other side of this wall isn’t another room. Instead, it’s empty, or rather…”
She herself had no way to describe what exactly was outside this wall.
If it really was a “cliff,” what was the “train” built on?
In other words… what was underneath the floor of this room?
White Snake pondered for a while, then said to Earth-Tiger: “Try throwing wood far away.”
“Far away?” Earth-Tiger looked at him.
“Right.” White Snake said. “Throw it straight into the distance.”
Although Earth-Tiger didn’t know what this meant, he still picked up the wood and threw it toward the distance.
In everyone’s line of sight, the wood kept flying forward until it disappeared from view, swallowed by the darkness.
Earth-Snake shook his head upon seeing this scene, turned back to walk beside Yan Zhichun, and pointed to the notebook in her hand, saying: “Silly girl… do you see? Seems not quite right…”
He picked up the pen and drew the positions of the doors on Yan Zhichun’s diagram.
“Looking from the corridor, the ‘doors’ are clearly very close together. At most three to five meters is one ‘door.'” Earth-Snake said. “Breaking through the wall from inside the room and looking out, how could it have this kind of structure?”
Earth-Snake drew a question mark in the void of space.
Yan Zhichun understood Earth-Snake’s meaning, but the more she understood, the more abstract she found the situation.
What kind of strange building style was this?
“Could the ‘doors’ in the corridor be fake…?” Yan Zhichun voiced her doubt.
“Probably not…” Earth-Snake shook his head. “‘Earth-level’ rooms are already in short supply. What would be the point of building a room so far apart and inserting fake doors in between?”
Yan Zhichun and Earth-Snake began pondering on the spot, but Earth-Tiger and Old Sun both looked confused.
“Is this problem so complicated?” Earth-Tiger said. “If this route doesn’t work, we’ll just switch to another one, right?”
“That’s right.” Old Sun also chimed in from the side. “Brother Tiger hit the nail on the head.”
“Switch routes…” Yan Zhichun looked up at Earth-Tiger. “What other routes can we switch to?”
