Chapter 1248: Non-Existent

Black Sheep and Yan Zhichun walked down step by step, feeling as though the staircase had no end in sight.

Although they had entered the door only a minute or two after the last “Extreme Path” member, the two couldn’t see a single person in their line of sight—only the stairs leading straight underground as if endlessly.

The staircase disappeared from view at the end of their vision like a long thread, as if descending from a mountaintop into hell.

In this space, Yan Zhichun felt somewhat uneasy. After all, this path was truly too dark. She reached out to gently touch the walls on both sides, and the sensation was even stranger.

She felt as though she had touched some kind of “non-existence.”

The pitch-black walls on both sides had neither temperature nor hardness, neither color nor reflection. When she reached out to touch them, she clearly touched something, yet it was hard to describe what she had touched.

The two walked for approximately another ten minutes. Just as Yan Zhichun felt her legs becoming somewhat sore, the unchanging scenery before her eyes finally transformed. The end of the staircase seemed to lead to an irregularly shaped opening.

She turned back, wanting to ask Black Sheep if he knew anything, but Black Sheep stated frankly that this was his first time entering the “cargo hold” and he had no knowledge of what lay ahead.

Before the two could enter that strange opening, the smell of blood had already wafted, bit by bit, to their nostrils. Thinking carefully, from entering the “cargo hold” until now had been only a few minutes, yet there was already such an obvious bloody smell—it seemed quite a few people had already died.

Yan Zhichun’s heart tightened, and she couldn’t help but quicken her pace. Black Sheep followed closely behind.

“Hey!” Black Sheep saw Yan Zhichun’s reckless appearance and said in a low voice from behind, “Be careful!”

“We’re facing a ‘Heaven-level’ Zodiac… Will being careful prevent us from dying?”

With a grave expression, Yan Zhichun walked into the opening. The scene inside also came into view in an instant.

This was an extremely spacious plaza, so spacious that walls couldn’t be seen on all sides.

Yan Zhichun had originally thought the place imprisoning “ants” would be some kind of prison, perhaps with countless cages, but looking around, it was merely a dim plaza. Though no light source could be seen nor any lamps, the scene within the plaza could indeed be observed.

Looking more carefully, the “Extreme Path” members were also scattered around as if facing a great enemy. They were crouching on the ground, some even using “ants” to shield themselves, looking vigilantly around with faces full of wariness. In the center of the plaza lay a large number of dismembered corpses—it was impossible to tell who had died.

“What’s going on…?”

Yan Zhichun didn’t grasp the situation for a moment. Although corpses lay scattered everywhere, she hadn’t seen any enemy.

“Bitch, crouch down quickly!”

Zhoumo’s voice came from beside her ear. Without hesitation, Yan Zhichun immediately crouched down. In an instant, she felt something brush past the top of her head, and even her hair was lifted by a gust of wind.

Several seconds later, Yan Zhichun felt belated fear. If not for Zhoumo’s reminder, she might have already become another dismembered corpse.

Black Sheep narrowed his eyes looking toward midair. Whether due to the dim lighting or the speed being too fast, when Yan Zhichun was attacked, he actually hadn’t seen anything at all.

Just how fast must the speed be to make an “Earth-level” Zodiac completely unable to see it?

Yan Zhichun looked back and saw that across the entire plaza, only Black Sheep was still standing. She couldn’t help but call out a reminder: “Black Sheep! You should crouch down too. It’s too dangerous like this!”

“It’s useless for me to crouch down,” Black Sheep replied coldly. “An ‘Earth-level Zodiac’ has appeared in this plaza. No matter where I hide, I’ll be the most conspicuous. Find a place to hide yourself.”

After hearing this, Yan Zhichun nodded with a grave expression, then quickly moved while crouching, arriving beside an “Extreme Path” member. The two hid together behind an “ant.”

Black Sheep continued observing the situation here, wanting to quickly figure out exactly what was attacking everyone.

Where exactly was Heavenly-Ox?

On this empty plaza, only countless “ants” could be seen. If that was the case…

For this so-called “cargo hold,” where was the exit?

Black Sheep stared at the void, thinking. In order to confront Heavenly-Ox at this moment, he had even fought Earth-Ox in advance as practice.

Both appeared to be strongly built, lean women, and he had originally thought their fighting styles wouldn’t differ much, but now it seemed he had been somewhat naive.

Before even seeing what Heavenly-Ox looked like, this small team had already begun suffering casualties.

Yet even so, Black Sheep was still puzzled. No matter how strong the opponent was, they should at least leave some traces. Otherwise, how could one kill something so impossible to deal with?

Just as he was contemplating tactics, Black Sheep felt the airflow before him undergo a subtle change.

It seemed some invisible thing had crashed through the airflow flying toward him, at an unbelievably fast speed.

His expression changed, and he instantly extended both hands. Originally wanting to launch an attack toward that thing moving too fast to be seen, his subconscious instead released an extremely dangerous signal, making his hands unconsciously cross before him in defense.

*Bang!*

The brutal force collided with Black Sheep, producing a tremendous sound while also lifting Black Sheep’s body from the ground, directly throwing him far into the distance. If he hadn’t raised his hands to block just now, he would probably already be lying on the ground severely injured.

Yan Zhichun’s eyes widened watching this scene, thinking to herself that this was bad. That thing wasn’t simply “moving too fast to be seen”—rather, it fundamentally didn’t exist. After all, it had stopped the instant it struck Black Sheep, but hadn’t revealed its form.

“It’s ‘Concealment’…” She slowly widened her eyes. “This is bad… this ability is too…”

Yan Zhichun felt that Heavenly-Ox’s ability would counter most of the “Echoes” here.

Officer Li and Su Shan crouched hiding behind three “ants,” shooting glances from over their shoulders.

“Did you see it?” Officer Li asked.

“Over there!” Su Shan pointed at a patch of void in midair and said quietly.

“Good!” Officer Li stared at that patch of void and reached his hand into his pocket, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t pull out anything.

After all, his enemy was a patch of void.

He had originally thought that after long-term training, he could already skillfully extract hearts, but today the enemies he encountered were first Xuanwu, then Zhu Que, and now came a Heavenly-Ox whose form couldn’t even be seen.

“It’s no use…” Officer Li looked toward midair with furrowed brows. “Su Shan, what exactly is that thing?”

“It seems to be… a woman?” Su Shan said uncertainly.

“Either it is or it isn’t. What do you mean ‘seems to be’?”

“I can only see a glowing shadow…” Su Shan said with reddened eyes. “It looks like a woman, but she’s carrying something very large on her shoulders—even bigger than her entire body. These two glowing shadows together make it impossible for me to judge for the moment.”
