Chapter 138: Killing

Qi Xia, Tiantian, and Yun Yao all turned their faces away.

The scene before them was truly unbearable to watch.

Putting it nicely, it could be called a “one-on-one fight.” Putting it bluntly, it was a one-sided beating.

That bald brute before Qiao Jiajin was as helpless as a child who had just learned to walk.

This match had no referee, so no one would come forward to stop either side from using whatever moves they wanted.

Qi Xia felt that Qiao Jiajin was very strange. Every time he got into a fight, he seemed to become a different person.

It had been like this the first time they entered the “Doorway to Heaven.” His eyes would suddenly turn cold and stern.

“Big… Big Brother…” A’Mu was so frightened he stuttered. He finally understood now just how vast the gap between his opponent’s strength and his own was. “Stop hitting him… If you keep going, he’s really going to die…”

Qiao Jiajin stopped. The bald brute stood there swaying unsteadily, blood dripping from his mouth.

“Apologize.”

The bald man reached out his hand in a daze, as if bowing, then said through completely swollen lips, “I’m sorry…”

A’Mu and Blondie hurriedly ran forward to support the bald man, their eyes full of terror.

“Get lost. Don’t let me see you again.” Qiao Jiajin waved his hand dismissively.

A’Mu and Blondie nodded and turned to leave with the other two.

“You can’t leave.” Qi Xia’s expression darkened as he called out to stop the three of them. He knew these people’s nature—if they left, they would most likely go kill someone else.

Qiao Jiajin turned back in confusion. “What’s wrong, Liar?”

“These people are a menace,” Qi Xia said. “Absolutely cannot let them go.”

After speaking, he picked up a folding knife from the ground and slowly walked forward.

Qiao Jiajin frowned and reached out a hand to block Qi Xia.

“Liar, put down the knife.”

“What did you say?”

“I said put down the knife. Fighting is fighting—don’t bring a knife into it.”

Qiao Jiajin knew all too well that it was because he had used a knife to kill someone when he was eleven years old that his life had turned out the way it had.

A flash of killing intent passed through Qi Xia’s eyes, but he still held his temper and turned to look at Qiao Jiajin. “They’re more ruthless and cruel than you imagine. Absolutely cannot keep them around.”

“Have you really thought this through? This is killing someone.” Qiao Jiajin said in a low voice.

“They’ll resurrect anyway,” Qi Xia said. “I’m killing them now just to make sure no one disturbs me for the next nine days.”

“That still won’t do.” Qiao Jiajin kept his grip on Qi Xia’s wrist. “Liar, I’ve already taught them the lesson they needed. If you don’t feel satisfied, you can go add a few more kicks, but you cannot kill anyone.”

“You…” Qi Xia paused. He realized Qiao Jiajin’s eyes were very serious, not like he was joking at all.

“Regardless of whether they can resurrect or not, once you start killing people, you can never go back.” Qiao Jiajin slowly took the knife from Qi Xia’s hand. “‘They’re dangerous, I need to kill them’—this thought itself is extremely dangerous. We’re humans, not animals. If you get used to this way of thinking, you’ll never be able to return to the normal world.”

After hearing this, Qi Xia slowly closed his eyes.

How ironic. In the previous cycle, he had used the question “Do you think killing to seize Dao is feasible?” to test Qiao Jiajin. Only after learning that Qiao Jiajin refused to kill people did he feel assured enough to take him as a teammate.

In just a few days, Qi Xia’s mindset had already undergone earth-shattering changes.

Just as Qiao Jiajin said, once he got used to the idea of “killing people,” he would completely integrate into the “Land of the End” and become no different from those Zodiac.

If one day he could return to reality, he would be destined to live bearing the debt of human lives.

“Qiao Jiajin, even if we don’t kill people, there will always be people who will kill us,” Qi Xia said coldly. “You carry ‘righteousness’ on your shoulders, but not everyone carries that same ‘righteousness.’ When everyone here thinks ‘killing people’ is normal behavior, what are we supposed to do?”

“Leave it to me. I can handle it.” Qiao Jiajin said.

“How long can you handle it?” Qi Xia’s expression was somewhat dim. “What if you die?”

“I…” Qiao Jiajin sighed, and a helpless expression appeared on his face. “Liar, I’m not as smart as you, so I can’t think that far ahead. All I know is that right now you cannot kill anyone. I don’t agree.”

The situation seemed to have reached a stalemate.

The pair who usually seemed most inseparable now had a disagreement.

Tiantian watched the two of them with sadness on her face. She knew neither of them was wrong—they were just being driven mad by this place.

In a place like this, should they still consider themselves “human”?

Thinking this, she slowly walked forward and took the knife from Qiao Jiajin’s hand.

“I have an idea,” Tiantian said.

The two of them turned to look at her, not understanding.

“I’ll do the killing.” Her gentle voice slowly explained. “You don’t need to struggle with this anymore. I’ll kill them.”

“What…” Qiao Jiajin was startled. “Pretty lady, it’s not about who does the killing! Do you want to become a murderer?”

“I don’t care.” Tiantian shook her head. “This might be the meaning of my existence. After all, even if I return to the real world, I’ll still have to live a life without light. Thinking about it carefully, my best outcome is to die in a place where no one knows me. That way… no one will pity me, and no one will laugh at me.”

Qi Xia blinked, feeling like things were developing in a bad direction.

“So then…” Tiantian smiled bitterly. “I don’t care whether I’ve killed someone or not. It doesn’t matter who you ask me to kill, just don’t bring me along when you leave.”

After speaking, she walked toward those three men.

A’Mu had injured his waist in the fall, Blondie had dislocated his arm, and the bald man had been beaten senseless. They didn’t know what Qi Xia and the others were discussing—they could only watch as this woman approached slowly with a dagger raised.

“A-A’Mu, something doesn’t seem right…” Blondie spoke up. “Is she going to kill us?”

“That… that can’t be…” A’Mu said dumbly. “We apologized and took our beating… Besides, we didn’t even hurt anyone… There’s no need, right?”

“Should we run…?”

“But…” A’Mu glanced at Qiao Jiajin. If he really wanted to end their lives, where could they run to with their injured bodies?

Tiantian had already arrived before them and raised the knife. Her hands were shaking, and her entire state looked extremely terrible.

“Big… Big Sister…” A’Mu swallowed. “What exactly are you trying to do?”

“I just want to make some contribution for the people who trust me.” Tiantian said chokingly. “I’m sorry.”

Though her hands were shaking, she didn’t hesitate when she struck. As the dagger flew toward A’Mu’s lower abdomen, Qi Xia pulled her back.

The dagger fell, and A’Mu also nervously tumbled to the ground.

“Forget it, Tiantian…”

Qi Xia’s heart was very conflicted. He supported Tiantian in his arms and discovered that this girl’s entire body was trembling. She was terribly frightened.

Yes, this was killing someone.

The other person’s eyes were staring at you intently, yet you had to stab the knife into their abdomen.

“That’s enough,” Qi Xia said. “There’s no need for this.”

He slowly helped Tiantian to the side and looked at the three terrified men before him. All three had suffered serious injuries—they wouldn’t be able to cause trouble for the next few days even if they wanted to.

“Let it go for today. You’d better behave yourselves.”
