Chapter 305: Square?

Although everyone heard the enormous boom, due to limited visibility, no one knew what had actually happened outside their own room.

They only knew someone had died.

But who died? And how did they die?

“Damn it…” Chen Junnan reached up and slapped himself, rebuking himself: “Chen Junnan, wake up… what does that dead person have to do with you?”

The slight pain brought him back to his senses. If he continued worrying like this, he would definitely be the one to die.

He stood up again and paced around the room. This room was tightly locked and completely unopenable.

Now the man on his left had most likely already died, but how could he verify it?

The fourth round began. According to Chen Junnan’s earlier deduction, assuming Yun Yao was questioner number 1, he was number 2, and the man on his left was number 3, then now it was number 4’s turn to receive the question.

He would once again be the last person to receive the phone call.

What would the question become by the time it reached him?

After a long wait, Chen Junnan felt the time was about right and placed his hand on the phone in advance.

“Ring—”

The instant the phone rang, Chen Junnan picked it up.

“Hello…” Yun Yao called out. “Thank goodness, you’re still alive?”

“Hey, you really know how to say auspicious words.” Chen Junnan sighed. “Rest assured, I’m never far from death.”

“Stop being glib…” Yun Yao said seriously. “This time the question is ‘Was the killer a square?'”

“This…” Chen Junnan was stunned. “This old lecher’s questions are getting more and more tricky…”

“So what do you think?” Yun Yao asked. “That sound was very close to us. Do you know who died?”

“I roughly know.” Chen Junnan nodded. “But whether the killer was a ‘square’ or a ‘club,’ how would I know?”

“In any case, I chose ‘No’…” Yun Yao said. “Every previous answer has been ‘Yes.’ Do you think this might be related to the deaths?”

Yun Yao’s words gave Chen Junnan a new train of thought.

“Big star, you really are a tiny bit smarter than me.” Chen Junnan smiled. “But our two answers can’t influence the overall situation. No one knows what the others chose.”

“But you have one advantage over everyone else.” Yun Yao said. “You can dial the phone to confirm whether the person next to you really died.”

“Makes sense.”

After hanging up, Chen Junnan directly pressed the dial button.

“Beep—”

The dial tone sounded. No one answered.

“Beep—”

The second dial tone sounded. The other end remained completely silent.

This could basically confirm that the man next to him was already dead.

But exactly how did he die?

Chen Junnan didn’t give up and still patiently waited as the phone rang over ten times.

Just as he was about to reach out and hang up, the dial tone was interrupted and a soft voice came through.

“Hello…?”

Chen Junnan’s whole body froze, then he withdrew his hand and held the old-fashioned telephone to his ear.

“Hello?”

“Who, who are you?” The girl asked.

After hearing this, Chen Junnan’s brows furrowed. He immediately reached out and hung up the phone.

According to the rules Earth-Snake had stated before, if the phone rang ten times without anyone answering, it would automatically transfer to the next living person.

The dial tone just now had rung at least thirteen or fourteen times, meaning this girl didn’t want to answer the phone right away.

She hadn’t realized at all that the call would come.

So she was the “first person” of this round.

“It’s already gone full circle…?” Chen Junnan muttered to himself, then returned beside his screen and began thinking about this round’s question. “Was the killer a square?”

First, he needed to confirm two things.

The first thing—was this sentence the original question?

If it was like the previous “Should it fall down?”, then who had changed it? What did it mean before being changed?

Assuming no one had changed the question, then he needed to resolve the second thing—

What was a “square”?

Was the word analogous to “square” actually “club,” or “circle”?

Since they were analogous words, logically speaking, replacing it with another should also make sense.

Then it shouldn’t be “club.”

After all, from the start of the game until now, there had never been any mention of poker suits or anything related to poker suits. To suddenly bring up “square,” he could confirm it had nothing to do with poker suits.

So this “square” referred to the literal meaning—a true “geometric shape.”

In other words… the ultimate meaning of this question was “Was that person just now killed by a square geometric object?”

This way it became very clear, and he could also deduce what that sound earlier had been.

A massive geometric object fell from above his head and crushed him to death alive.

And that earlier phrase “Should it fall down?”

Should have been the question that controlled the massive geometric object.

“Damn you, this young master has used up all his brain cells for a lifetime today…” Chen Junnan shook his head and pressed “No.”

The reason he chose “No” was because he knew the thing that fell was decidedly not a “square.”

“If I’m not mistaken… it should be a ‘sphere.'”

Chen Junnan reached out to stroke the wall on his left side. After the enormous sound, his left wall had subsequently been struck once by a massive object.

This sensation was more like an unstable sphere after landing.

If what fell was a “square,” since plane meets plane, the geometric object should have immediately stopped moving after landing.

Chen Junnan’s answer selection was complete. The screen lit up as usual.

“The final answer to this question is—’No.'”

He nodded silently: “Looks like many people thought the same as me…?”

A few seconds later, the enormous sound of chains rang out again.

The continuous “clatter clatter” sound was heard, driving up the ruins and rubble from the adjacent room high into the air.

Chen Junnan quietly listened to this sound, doing his best to visualize the scene in the other room—

If he hadn’t guessed wrong, separated by just one wall, a thick iron chain was attached to a massive iron ball that had thunderously fallen a few minutes ago, instantly crushing the person sitting in the room into meat paste.

And now the chain was tightening, the iron ball returning once again to the ceiling.

So the question was…

Why was he the one who got crushed?

Could it be that in the “Should it fall down?” question just now, only he chose “Yes”?

But this was unreasonable. Snake-type games rarely lied in their rules. Since Earth-Snake said the answer used the “minority obeys majority” principle, that meant more than half the people chose “Yes” just now.

At least seven people chose “Yes.”

“Out of seven people, it just happened to crush him…?”

Chen Junnan pondered aloud. He knew that if he didn’t figure out the principle of how the iron ball crushed people, he might die inexplicably at any time.

The iron chain sounds above his head clanged noisily, disturbing his mind.

“My brain’s already not enough, and there’s still this damn noise pollution…”

He touched his palm and discovered it was already covered in fine sweat. This feeling of not knowing when it would be his turn to be crushed into meat paste was somewhat ominous.
