Chapter 67: Rabbit

Rounding a street corner, the three of them arrived at a dilapidated police station.

A rabbit-headed person stood at the entrance.

“It’s here!” Old Lu said. “Looks like it’s already over…”

Qi Xia glanced at the rabbit-headed person. This seemed to be another woman.

Her mask was worn, and her suit was covered in dust. She was clearly a “Man-Rabbit,” which meant that if Officer Li had truly participated in her game, he certainly wouldn’t be in any life-threatening danger.

“Want to play my game?” Man-Rabbit asked with a smile.

“No…” Qi Xia shook his head. “I want to ask if the man and woman who came earlier to participate in the game are still here?”

“A man and a woman?” Man-Rabbit held one hand to her chest while the other propped up her chin, looking somewhat coquettish. “Oh… you mean that muscular young man, right?”

“That’s right.”

“What an unromantic man he is.” Man-Rabbit coyly waved her hand. “I even said I wouldn’t need any ‘Dao’—just keep me company for a day—but he was like a block of wood…”

Qi Xia sighed somewhat impatiently. “Where is he?”

“Young man, you’re quite handsome yourself…” Man-Rabbit suddenly reached out and touched Qi Xia’s face, startling him with this gesture.

“Although you don’t look as muscular, as long as you can keep me company for a day, I’ll not only give you ‘Dao,’ but I’ll also tell you that man’s whereabouts. How about it?”

Qi Xia pushed away Man-Rabbit’s hand and turned back to the other two, saying, “Forget it, let’s search the area.”

Old Lu and Lin Qin both knew well not to get entangled with the “Zodiacs” and promptly turned to leave with Qi Xia.

“If you’re going to search on your own… you’d better hurry.” Man-Rabbit smiled charmingly. “That young man was injured quite badly. If you’re late, it’ll be too late.”

“What?” Qi Xia had just taken three steps when he suddenly froze in place.

“Why would he be injured?” Qi Xia turned back in confusion. “Is your game that dangerous?”

“Not really.” Man-Rabbit twisted her waist and stepped forward. “My games are all ‘escape-type’ games. I’ve designed very intricate mechanisms. But that young man relied on his good physique and insisted on using brute force to solve them. What could I do?”

After hearing this, Qi Xia said nothing more. As he turned his head, he suddenly saw some fresh blood traces on the ground. His expression turned cold as he said:

“Let’s go.”

The group continued forward following the blood traces.

Based on this amount of bleeding, Officer Li’s injury shouldn’t be serious. Man-Rabbit was probably just being alarmist.

Soon, following the blood traces, they arrived at the entrance of a pharmacy. Sounds of collision continuously came from inside, clearly indicating someone was there.

“Officer Li?” Qi Xia called out.

The commotion inside paused, and Lawyer Zhang was the first to come out.

“Qi Xia?!” She looked somewhat different. Her originally neat appearance now looked rather disheveled.

Her entire body was soaking wet, as if she had just been underwater.

“What happened?” Qi Xia asked. “Where’s Officer Li?”

Lawyer Zhang’s eyes suddenly widened, and she grabbed Qi Xia in one motion. “Please help me! Officer Li isn’t going to make it!”

“What?!”

Qi Xia felt somewhat puzzled. They had followed the trickling blood traces all the way here—it looked at most like a cut arm. How could he not be making it?

The three of them followed Lawyer Zhang through the door. A very strong smell of rust wafted out.

After walking just a few steps, they saw Officer Li, covered head to toe in red.

His entire body was covered in fresh blood, making it impossible to tell at first glance where he was injured.

His lips were pale, his face ashen, and he sat slumped on the ground, completely powerless.

“What… what happened…” Lin Qin ran forward trembling. “Officer Li… where exactly are you injured?”

Officer Li turned to look at Qi Xia and Lin Qin, forcing a bitter smile onto his face. He slowly extended his hand, as if wanting to say something.

Qi Xia looked down, and his heart suddenly skipped a beat.

This wasn’t a question of “where he was injured”—

Officer Li’s entire right hand had completely disappeared.

At his wrist was a very rough break. It didn’t look like it had been cut off at all, but rather torn off.

And to stop the bleeding, he seemed to have found an iron wire to tie around his arm. The wire was embedded tightly into his flesh, strangling the surrounding tissue until it turned purple.

Precisely because of this, only a small amount of blood leaked from the broken end of his arm.

“My God…” Lin Qin wanted to help with something but found herself completely unable to help. “Lawyer Zhang, what on earth happened?”

“That rabbit’s game…” Zhang Chenze bit her lip hard. “That woman is simply a pervert…”

Qi Xia’s expression gradually turned cold. He came to Officer Li’s side, wanting to say something, but every sentence felt stuck in his throat.

He had imagined many scenarios of meeting him, but no matter what, he could never have anticipated the current situation.

“Lawyer Zhang, take them outside.” Officer Li suddenly spoke. “I want to talk to Qi Xia alone.”

“Talk alone?” Everyone was somewhat puzzled upon hearing this.

Zhang Chenze thought for a moment, nodded, and left the room with Lin Qin and Old Lu.

Seeing everyone leave, Officer Li smiled bitterly and said to Qi Xia, “Why are you frowning? You look like you’ve suffered some great injustice.”

“I…” Qi Xia sighed and could only say, “I’ll avenge you. That rabbit…”

“No…” Officer Li shook his head. “That woman is insane. Don’t participate in her game.”

The words that hadn’t yet left Qi Xia’s mouth got stuck in his throat again, leaving him at a loss for words.

Officer Li smiled weakly. “Have you found a way to leave this place?”

“No…” Qi Xia said dejectedly. “I think I might have been wrong. Not only did I fail to find a way to leave, but I even got Qiao Jiajin and Tiantian killed.”

With only Officer Li present, Qi Xia finally voiced the grief hidden in his heart. “I thought everything was too simple…”

Officer Li’s pale lips curved slightly, and then he shifted his body to make his sitting position somewhat more comfortable.

“What’s wrong?” Officer Li asked. “Is there something even you can’t solve?”

Qi Xia didn’t know how to describe the matter concerning “Xiao Xiao,” so he could only shake his head.

Now even Officer Li, whom he trusted, was going to die. Qi Xia felt his headache about to flare up again.

He shook his head, pretending nothing was wrong as he asked, “Why did you ask me to stay alone?”

“I have some words I want to tell someone before I die.”

Officer Li felt around his pocket and pulled out a worn cigarette box. Inside were actually two moldy cigarettes, probably found in some abandoned building.

He took one cigarette and dangled it from his mouth, then felt his other pockets and muttered a curse under his breath.

“Forgot I couldn’t find any fire. Can’t even have this one smoke before I die…”
