An He Zhuan: Act Nine – Chapter 13

“Well then, let me test just how fearsome this Medicine Human technique is,” Su Changhe showed no fear as he brandished his dagger and charged forward.

The two Medicine Humans immediately threw punches at Su Changhe. Compared to before, their attacks now carried an even more vicious force. Su Changhe met their fists with his dagger, intending to slice off half their hands in one strike. However, to his surprise, their fists suddenly became as hard as stone, withstanding his blade and continuing toward his face.

Su Changhe sprang backward, executing a flip to dodge the attack. He muttered under his breath, “Dead, yet more formidable than when alive?”

Before his words faded, the two Medicine Humans’ fists came at him again. Su Changhe showed no fear; instead, his playful nature emerged. He gestured slightly to Su Muyu, indicating him to stay back, then raised his inch-long dagger to meet the attack. The dagger bloomed like a flower at his fingertips, and in an instant, he had struck seventeen times, each blow targeting the Medicine Humans’ vital points. Some strikes were blocked by their hardened bodies, while others hit their mark, but the Medicine Humans showed no reaction. Rather than falling, they became even more frenzied.

Killing someone already dead was an absurd notion. Naturally, it wouldn’t be an easy task either.

Purple qi began emanating from Su Changhe’s body. He smiled, “Since a strike to the throat is useless, and hitting vital points is ineffective, what about simply removing the head?” Su Changhe waved both hands, and a puppet string appeared between his two daggers. He whipped it forcefully. The string connected the two daggers, spinning several times in the air before wrapping around one Medicine Human’s head. Su Changhe then yanked another puppet string, tightening the daggers and cleanly severing the Medicine Human’s head.

The head slid off smoothly, rolling several times before stopping at Su Changhe’s feet. No blood gushed from the dark hole where the head had been, confirming that this Medicine Human was indeed already a corpse. Yet the headless body didn’t fall; it merely lost its sense of direction and began charging randomly around the courtyard.

“In my twenty-some years in Dark River, I’ve seen all manner of strange things,” Su Changhe marveled, “but this is truly a first.”

Bai Hetui walked out of the house at this moment: “Destroy his heart, and he will stop moving.”

“Miss Bai, next time, tell me these things earlier!” Su Changhe shook his head helplessly, then threw another dagger that pierced straight through the headless Medicine Human’s chest. Finally, it lost all strength and collapsed backward. Meanwhile, the other Medicine Human charged at Su Changhe again.

“If destroying the heart works, then turning it to ash should work too,” Su Changhe put away his dagger and began gathering qi in his palms.

Seeing this, Bai Hetui cried out, “No, don’t!”

But it was too late. Su Changhe had already completed gathering his qi and struck out with his palm. The Yama Palm technique was incredibly powerful, instantly destroying the Medicine Human’s upper body. Flesh flew everywhere as black-purple blood rained down from above, about to fall on Su Changhe.

At that moment, a paper umbrella opened above Su Changhe’s head. Su Muyu had appeared beside him and said helplessly, “Too reckless.”

“I just wanted to test the opponent’s strength,” Su Changhe shrugged.

The black blood fell on the umbrella’s surface, making sounds like beans hitting the ground.

Bai Hetui hurried over: “Throw away the umbrella, quickly!”

Su Muyu nodded and immediately tossed the oil paper umbrella aside.

Bai Hetui sighed in relief and complained to Su Changhe: “You always act on your own. If you had any wounds and that black blood touched you, you would have become a Medicine Human too!”

Su Changhe smiled: “I have my ways of avoiding it.”

Su Muyu looked down at the two corpses on the ground: “These two were normal people when they arrived, and their martial arts weren’t weak. So the Medicine Human technique can be applied to living people?”

Bai Hetui frowned: “While Western Chu’s Medicine Human technique can indeed achieve this, the former Night Crow at Medicine King Valley only reached the level of making corpses transform. His research into the Medicine Human technique has advanced considerably these years. We must stop him!”

Su Muyu looked toward the door: “He must have learned about what happened at the Prefecture Lord’s mansion and sent people to test our strength. Now that the assassination attempt has failed, he’ll likely try to leave South Peace City.”

“It won’t be that easy,” Bai Hetui took out a transparent glass bottle from her clothes, containing a spider glowing with a white light.

“Did Yu Mo give this to you?” Su Muyu was startled.

“Yes.” Bai Hetui opened the bottle and carefully placed the white spider on the ground. The spider circled the black blood on the ground once before crawling toward the courtyard exit. Bai Hetui quickly followed, then turned back after a few steps: “Su Muyu, come with me. Su Changhe, stay here and watch if anyone else tries to infiltrate Crane Rain Pharmacy. If anyone comes, remember, keep them alive!”

Su Changhe pouted: “I know, I know.”

Bai Hetui waved to Su Muyu: “Let’s go!”

The two of them began traversing South Peace City, following the white spider’s lead. Bai Hetui felt very frustrated. They had just resolved the major trouble in Tianqi City and thought they could live a peaceful life for a while, but unexpectedly, Crane Feather Pharmacy had only been open for a few days before encountering such trouble. Moreover, this nephew called Night Crow wasn’t as easy to deal with as the simple-minded Xin Baicao. She remembered the first time she saw him as a child – she had burst into tears at the sight of him.

Though he was a medical practitioner, he was gaunt and withered, like a living corpse.

Su Muyu noticed Bai Hetui’s unease and said in a deep voice: “Don’t worry. Though the Medicine Human technique is troublesome, once we know its weakness, it’s not hard to defeat.”

Bai Hetui nodded: “That’s true. I just fear that Night Crow has already created a Golden Body Medicine Human. That would be problematic.”

“Golden Body Medicine Human?” Su Muyu asked, puzzled.

“A Golden Body Medicine Human is created by truly transforming a living person into a Medicine Human. With such Medicine Humans lose their self-awareness, but their power increases several times over their normal strength. They feel no pain and fear no death. They’re usually created from supreme martial artists,” Bai Hetui said gravely. “If it’s reached that stage, it will be difficult to handle.”
