An He Zhuan: Act Seven – Chapter 9

At the Teaching House.

Su Zhe sat leisurely on the bed smoking his pipe, looking at the scattered weapon fragments on the floor and the women collapsed on the ground, sighing lightly: “I, Su Zhe, am not the type to lose my senses over beauty.”

“Oh? Is that so?” A gentle female voice sounded from outside the room.

Su Zhe was so startled his hand trembled, nearly dropping his pipe: “Why’d you come here?”

“Why did I come? I came to see what fun things my dog of a father is up to.” Bai Hehuai looked at the unconscious women in the room, “One, two, three, four… weren’t you seriously injured, dog father, with your health being poor?”

“It’s all a misunderstanding!” Su Zhe said urgently.

“Oh. So your injury was a misunderstanding.” Bai Hehuai said softly.

“No, no, not that misunderstanding!” Su Zhe was covered in sweat.

“I never thought Uncle Zhe would have such troubles,” Su Changhe also walked into the room.

Su Zhe put down his pipe and looked at Su Changhe: “So it’s you, you troublemaker, who’s here. No wonder I was saying why people were trying to kill me at the Teaching House today.”

Su Changhe shrugged: “If I hadn’t come, there would have been real trouble today.”

“Where’s Su Muyu? I was just about to look for him, he’s probably in trouble over there too.” Su Zhe was anxious to leave the room.

“No need to go.” Su Changhe smiled, “Right now Su Muyu has been drugged with the Drunken Dream Gu, sleeping like a dead dog, being dragged off for bounty money.”

At the Imperial Father-in-law’s Mansion.

Yi Bu raised his eyebrows slightly as he saw Crow from the Eagle Eye Group hurriedly walk in from outside, nodding to Yi Bu.

“Good.” Yi Bu could barely contain his joy, smiling smugly as he walked out of the main hall. He saw the Heaven Official and Water Official standing there, with Su Muyu being held by his collar by the Water Official, slumped on the ground. His eyes were tightly closed, appearing to have lost consciousness.

“Was he poisoned?” Yi Bu asked.

“We gave him the Drunken Dream Gu. Even if he were an immortal, he couldn’t use any martial arts now.” The Water Official replied.

Yi Bu bent down, lightly touching Su Muyu’s pulse, finding that all the true qi in Su Muyu’s body had become as gentle and soft as if trapped in an eternal drunken dream. He nodded: “Well done. But why have only you two returned? Where’s the Earth Official?”

“He’s dead.” The Water Official’s tone showed no fluctuation, “After all, capturing Su Muyu alive wasn’t an easy task.”

“What a pity.” Yi Bu didn’t bother to fake any grief, casually remarking before turning around, “Put Su Muyu in the Shadow Prison.”

“Yes.” The Water Official replied.

“Heaven Official, why haven’t you spoken?” Yi Bu turned his head slightly, asking softly.

The Heaven Official’s face was expressionless: “My brother died, and Sect Leader only says ‘what a pity,’ but for me, it’s not simply a matter of pity. I don’t want to say more, so why does Sect Leader ask?”

“I see, I was thoughtless.” Yi Bu said in a deep voice.

The Water Official smiled meaningfully, then said: “Oh right, Sect Leader Yi. There’s more good news to tell you.”

“What news?” Yi Bu asked.

“The Dark River Family Head, Su Changhe, has entered Tianqi City,” the Water Official said slowly.

“Such perfect timing?” Yi Bu touched the sword hilt at his waist, muttering softly.

The Water Official picked up Su Muyu from the ground: “Indeed, such timing. If he had come one step earlier, our plan couldn’t have been executed.”

“No need to seek him out yet, let’s see how he reacts when he can’t find Su Muyu.” Yi Bu smiled.

“Sect Leader Yi thinks thoroughly.” The Water Official hoisted Su Muyu up and headed toward the Shadow Prison, with the expressionless Heaven Official turning to follow. This Heaven Official was, of course, Mu Ying in disguise, and only after they left Yi Bu’s sight did he speak: “Yi Bu was suspicious of me just now.”

“Yi Bu is paranoid by nature, but you turned danger into safety just now.” The Water Official replied.

“Brother, you’re quite fond of idioms,” Mu Ying said with a smile.

The Water Official looked at her and pursed his lips: “Your face looks exactly like the Heaven Official’s, but your voice is so coquettish, it gives me the creeps.”

Mu Ying covered her mouth and laughed, deliberately acting coy, narrowing her eyes at the Water Official.

“Disgusting.” The Water Official said helplessly.

The two brought Su Muyu to the deepest part of the Imperial Father-in-law’s Mansion. The Water Official explained: “This was originally the Shadow Sect’s headquarters, disguised as a wealthy merchant’s mansion in Tianqi City. After Yi Bu became the Imperial Father-in-law, he simply turned it into the Imperial Father-in-law’s Mansion. The deepest part is the Shadow Prison, where important prisoners are held.”

Outside the Shadow Prison, two burly swordsmen stood guard. After the Water Official showed a token, the two swordsmen opened the great doors of the Shadow Prison. The Water Official led Mu Ying and Su Muyu inside. The Shadow Prison was dark and damp, with torture racks visible everywhere, but the individual cells were empty, with no one imprisoned within them.

“You made it sound so impressive, why is it empty?” Mu Ying asked, “I haven’t left that Yellow Springs Pawnshop for many years, has North Li’s security become so good that there aren’t even any criminals?”

“The Shadow Sect was once Tianqi City’s shadow guardian, but when light is at its brightest and can illuminate even the night, there’s no need for shadows anymore. Now that the King of Langya controls the power to guard Tianqi and protect North Li, naturally, there’s no need for the Shadow Sect to detain prisoners here. Some prisoners who arrived here were even taken away by the King of Langya shortly after.” The Water Official replied.

“No wonder Yi Bu wants to kill the King of Langya so badly.” Su Muyu suddenly spoke, his voice extremely weak.

“You can still talk after being drugged with the Drunken Dream Gu?” The Water Official threw Su Muyu into a nearby iron cell.

Su Muyu sat cross-legged on the ground: “This Drunken Dream Gu is different from ordinary poisons. I’ve been trying to circulate my true qi to break through the shackles in my body for several hours, but until now, I can barely manage to speak.”

“Naturally.” The Water Official smiled, “This is my proudest creation.”

“I haven’t had the chance to ask Changhe, why did you choose to cooperate with us?” Su Muyu asked.

The Water Official thought for a moment: “Does there have to be a reason for benefit? Can I say that I admire you and Su Changhe for a reason? Oh right, Su Changhe would say again that I’m not qualified to admire him.”

Su Muyu pondered for a moment, finally replying: “I understand.”

“Hahaha. I don’t understand myself.” The Water Official turned around, speaking softly, “I just feel that sometimes, major changes can be very interesting things.”
