Chapter 114: I Hope You Understand

After three years, the secret was finally revealed. Feng Yue had a rare good night’s sleep. In her dreams, there were no more battles or bloodshed, only clusters of winter jasmine flowers blooming along the road where the victorious army returned.

Guan Canghai rode at the front, while Guan Qingmu’s armor gleamed brilliantly. The irreverent vice general, Xu Tianze, swayed on his horse beside them, singing: “When I left in days past, ah, snow fell ceaselessly. Now that I return, ah, willows sway gently. Victory achieved in one morning, ah, neither hungry nor thirsty. My heart rejoices, ah, all know my joy. La-li-ge-lang ah…”

The off-key tune made Feng Yue laugh. She rode at the back, watching them amble forward as the morning sun rose perfectly ahead.

Yin Gezhi hadn’t slept. Though he had tried to close his eyes earlier, eventually he couldn’t even manage that. He slightly raised himself, leaning against the headboard to look at the person beside him.

She was sleeping soundly, with a smile at the corners of her mouth. She must be having a beautiful dream.

His eyes gleamed in the darkness. Yin Gezhi reached out as if to touch the corner of her mouth, but his hand froze halfway and slowly withdrew as something crossed his mind.

He recalled the Meng Hui Tower from long ago, when Jin Mama asked her to play the role of a general, and he had harshly criticized her, saying she wasn’t worthy of wearing armor. She hadn’t shown any trace of hurt, just looked up at him with an easy smile.

That red and white armor – it probably would have looked good on her. Unfortunately, he never knew if she had worn it or performed the role in the end.

When she heard those words back then, what was she thinking?

Though they were both military officers of Wei, he seemed to have never met her in person. They always went to different battlefields, and even when they were both in Li Du at the same time, they somehow never had the chance to meet. People always said that the Guan family’s female general was outstanding, no less capable than any man. He knew her martial arts were exceptional and well-praised. Such a woman should have been spirited and bold, capable of standing above men. What experiences had changed her into her current state?

His chest tightened again, and Yin Gezhi sat up straight, puzzled as he pressed his hand against his chest.

This feeling was too strange, something he had never experienced before.

“Do you know what it means to like someone?” Yi Zhangzhu had asked him this.

In the darkness, his face was full of bewilderment. Yin Gezhi clenched his fist and turned to look at Feng Yue sleeping peacefully beside him, his face ashen.

After a while, he gave a bitter laugh and said in an extremely low voice, “I didn’t know before, but now I do.”

Now he knew. But it was useless.

After the pitch-black night gave way to dawn, when Feng Yue woke up, Yin Gezhi was already dressed and seated in the room.

He’s quick!

Tiptoeing out of bed and tidying herself up, Feng Yue stood beside him, looked at his expressionless face, and grinned, “Good morning, Your Highness.”

Glancing at her, Yin Gezhi stood up and walked toward the door: “Today the Crown Prince will personally interrogate Yang Fengpeng.”

His attitude made Feng Yue momentarily feel as if nothing had happened yesterday. She couldn’t help but marvel at how broad-minded these royal family members were, truly capable of containing oceans in their hearts!

However, when the door opened and Guanzhi came to greet them, he exclaimed in shock: “Master?”

“Prepare the carriage.”

Stunned by his master’s complexion, then looking at the bewildered Feng Yue behind him, Guanzhi swallowed his words and bowed: “Yes, though Lingshun was looking for Lady Feng Yue earlier. My lady, perhaps you should go with me to check.”

As soon as she heard Lingshun was looking for her, Feng Yue immediately nodded. Seeing that Yin Gezhi didn’t object, she followed Guanzhi.

After circling to the stables in the back courtyard, Guanzhi finally spoke in a low voice: “Lingshun wasn’t looking for you. She stayed up late yesterday and is still resting. I just had something I wanted to ask you.”

Feng Yue raised an eyebrow: “What is it?”

“Did something major happen yesterday?” Looking back at her seriously, Guanzhi’s eyes were full of worry: “Master seems unwilling to tell me, but… though he rested for a night, he appears completely exhausted.”

Blinking in confusion, Feng Yue said: “How can you tell he’s exhausted? He seems fine to me.”

Shaking his head, Guanzhi said: “You might not see it, but I can. Master seems particularly sad… I’ve never seen him this sad before. The last time I saw this expression was when Wei surrendered in defeat.”

Her heart skipped a beat, and Feng Yue frowned.

Was he sad? What was he sad about?

“Nothing major happened yesterday, I just nearly got captured by General Yi. Your master had to force his way out of the general’s mansion to save me, so he probably has some explaining to do to the Great General. That’s probably why he’s troubled.”

Is that it? Guanzhi sighed: “Please take care of Master more. Lately, he only wants you by his side, and he won’t tell me anything…”

Hearing his aggrieved tone, Feng Yue teased him: “Aren’t you afraid that if I take care of him too much, you’ll lose favor?”

Guanzhi was stunned, genuinely pondering for a moment before responding righteously: “As long as Master can be happier.”

Feng Yue couldn’t help but laugh. She thought he was truly fortunate to have such a loyal person by his side.

Driving the carriage from the back door around to the front entrance, she sat on the shaft and saw Yin Gezhi in his white robes leaning against a pillar by the door from afar.

It was still the one she had sewn, and as the wind blew, his clothes fluttered ethereally. However, his complexion was truly awful, his lips deathly pale, no wonder Guanzhi said he looked exhausted.

“Your Highness—” She called out from afar, successfully startling him from his reverie. Feng Yue waved her arms and smiled brightly: “Quick, get in the carriage!”

Yin Gezhi was momentarily dazed, then frowned. Just as he started walking down the steps, the wheel rolled over a stone, causing the carriage to shake violently. The fool waving her arms on the shaft tilted with it.

Feng Yue was dumbfounded. Though she reacted quickly, knowing she was about to fall, her movements couldn’t keep up. Even though she managed to grab the edge of the shaft, her body was still inevitably falling to the ground!

Her pupils constricted. She could even see the dust flying from the wheels on the ground, thinking that if her head hit the ground, it might create an equally spectacular display of brain matter splattering.

However, just as her forehead was about to touch the ground, someone pulled her down from the carriage. Holding her tightly in their arms, the unsettling feeling of falling disappeared, followed by waves of scorching heat enveloping her from all directions.

Feng Yue was stunned and opened her eyes to look.

Yin Gezhi’s black hair was flying in the wind, and his hair quality looked very good. Long and black. Perhaps because he had just saved her, even his hair strands looked like those of a world-saving hero in her eyes.

“Thank you, Your Highness,” Feng Yue smiled. “But why are you so hot?”

Ignoring her, Yin Gezhi pushed her away with a stern face, looked at the carriage stopped in front, and started walking.

“Wait.” Feeling something wasn’t right, Feng Yue quickly caught up and grabbed him.

His palm was scorching hot too! He must have a fever!

Taking a sharp breath, she immediately shouted: “Guanzhi! Your master is sick!”

Just as he was about to shake off her hand, her shout made his head throb. Yin Gezhi frowned and glared at her: “What are you yelling for?”

Shrugging her shoulders, Feng Yue said: “You’ll think I’m meddling, so it’s better to call Guanzhi to handle it. You’re most likely to listen to him.”

As she spoke, Guanzhi had already rushed over, immediately reaching out to feel Yin Gezhi’s forehead, then exclaimed: “It’s burning hot! Don’t go out, I’ll go get a doctor!”

“Today we agreed to go…”

“Go where in this state? Look at your complexion!” Guanzhi was anxious and directly supported his arm, then called Feng Yue: “My lady, please help!”

Feng Yue immediately came over. The two of them carried Yin Gezhi into the room, one on each side.

“I’ll go get a doctor, please watch over him for now.”

“Alright.”

Guanzhi left in a hurry, and the room instantly fell silent.

Yin Gezhi felt that he wasn’t necessarily sick, as his mind was still very clear. He could still think. However, looking at the mirror Feng Yue handed over, he frowned: “Take my seal to attend the hearing, and tell me everything Yang Fengpeng says when you return.”

Feng Yue sighed: “Your Highness, at this point, Yang Fengpeng won’t possibly still resist. He will implicate General Yi.”

“It’s precisely because he will implicate him that I need to hear what he reveals.” Removing the jade ring from his finger and placing it in her palm, Yin Gezhi said: “Don’t play any tricks. Take Ganjiang with you, go early, and return early.”

“Then…”

She wanted to ask, what about you? But thinking again, why should she care if he lives or dies? He didn’t want her to attend to him, should she still worry about him like his mother and show extreme concern?

Forget it! Gripping the ring, Feng Yue turned and left.

Yin Gezhi was a person with a conscience, so revealing his identity seemed harmless. As long as she was eloquent enough to deceive people and make them feel guilty and believe that the Guan family had been wronged, her path would actually be easier.

Feeling the jade ring in her hand, Feng Yue tried it on her thumb and found it was too big by a circle, so she simply tied it to her belt.

Yang Fengpeng had already seen the young master and Yu Hexiang at dawn, and learning they were under the Crown Prince’s care, he gave a bitter smile and obediently put on the shackles to attend court.

Ye Yuqin was waiting for Yin Gezhi, but instead of him, Feng Yue arrived.

“His Highness Yin is ill,” bowing to him, Feng Yue smiled sweetly: “I’m here to listen in his place.”

Shocked in his eyes, yet feeling it was reasonable, looking at the jade ring at her waist, Ye Yuqin laughed softly: “Indeed, heroes have always struggled to resist beautiful women. Feng Yue, you’re truly impressive.”

“Your Highness flatters me,” smiling, Feng Yue said: “It’s my honor to serve Your Highness.”

“Having your assistance is this prince’s honor.” Nodding elegantly, Ye Yuqin said: “I’ve looked through everything you sent, and His Highness Yin also warned me to be careful of Consort Yi. I’m investigating secretly, if it’s true, then…”

Lowering his eyelids, he lowered his voice and said: “No matter what, Wu currently still relies on him to guard the borders. Even if his crimes are unforgivable, we might have to find ways to pardon him. On this point, I hope you understand.”
