Chapter 1101: Challenging the Saint

Slaughter a Saint!

These two words were too illusory for cultivators to contemplate — no one dared harbor such a fantasy. A single day without reaching Saint status meant being nothing more than an ant.

The gap in power was too vast, an unbridgeable chasm impossible to cross. Even a Half-Saint could only occasionally display a trace of Saint might, yet still fall short of truly reaching that realm.

A Saint had completely transcended, standing above all living beings, seemingly divine. How could a mortal possibly slaughter a god? The difficulty was simply too great!

Black Emperor said, “Kid, I’m not exaggerating — you can’t defy heaven on this one. The gap between you cannot be measured in ordinary terms. In a sense, a Saint has already become another form of life entirely, no longer human.”

Even the killing formation it had carved could barely harm a Saint under normal circumstances, for one reason alone — the gap was too immense. How could an ant bite a giant dragon to death?

“This… let’s be realistic,” Duan De said, shaking his head as well.

“Is there really no hope at all?” Ye Tong refused to give up, hoping desperately that her master could rise up and vent the anger in his heart.

“Unless… we find enough divine materials for this Emperor to carve out a world-shocking killing formation — only then would there be a chance of eliminating a Saint,” Black Emperor said.

The divine materials it spoke of were naturally exceedingly rare in the world, items specifically used for carving Emperor-level formation patterns — something one could encounter but never seek out. Only with such materials could the true power of that corner of the Wushi Formation Diagram it possessed be unleashed.

“The other path is for Ye Fan to reach the Half-Saint realm, trigger the Divine Prohibition, sweep away all obstacles, and completely break through the ‘Sacred Domain Barrier’ — only then would there be a chance to fight a Saint,” Duan De said.

Both conditions were far too demanding — at the very least, Ye Fan currently couldn’t achieve either; it simply wasn’t feasible.

“This…” Ye Tong’s eyes dimmed, feeling suffocated with grief for her master’s sake. The Ancient Clans were bullying them too much, yet they had no way to strike back.

“Even so, I will still slaughter a Saint!” Ye Fan’s words were resolute. He then told Black Emperor to prepare a formation platform for him — nothing else needed, it had to be the Chessboard Emperor Pattern, the kind that could ferry across from Undying Mountain.

The human race’s Sacred Body might be finished!

In recent days, some among the Ancient Clans had been discussing it — just these past few days, Huotan had been surveying the Southern Region, appearing in every great city, adopting a posture of not resting until Ye Fan was dead.

These days, everyone knew Ye Fan had truly returned — beheading the Heavenly Emperor’s Son, battling the Golden Heavenly Maiden, all of it was his doing. There were no secrets left to speak of.

Huotan wasn’t very old in years, the first genius among the Ancient Clans to become a Saint in this world after awakening, holding a special status that would be recorded in history.

Now, he had emerged with overwhelming force. Within these past few days, the entire Eastern Wasteland knew he intended to kill Ye Fan.

“Ye Fan, aren’t you supposed to be arrogantly divine and mighty? What are you in front of my master? Cowering in a corner, not daring to see the light — better if you never come out for the rest of your life.”

Huotan’s disciple had also arrived in the Southern Wasteland, his words bitter and sharp, full of mockery, all aimed at humiliating Ye Fan, trying to make his heart unable to find peace.

Ye Fan naturally paid no attention. These past few days he had been traveling through the ancient lands of the Southern Region, even bringing Ye Tong, Long Ma, and the others through the Fire Domain, letting them witness true immortal fire.

On the tenth level of the Fire Domain, a cluster of immortal flame formed from runes could not be touched — they were fortunate enough to witness it, and even from a distance, everyone couldn’t help gasping in shock.

Even Black Emperor was stunned for a moment, saying, “After all these years, it still exists — worthy of being the immortal fire that allowed the Wasteland Tower to rise and fall here for thousands of years!”

“This poor cultivator has an ideal — to claim this flame for myself, to use for refining pills, but alas, the difficulty is too great,” Duan De sighed.

While they traveled about, Huotan was also conducting a carpet search, because according to divination, these people were in the Southern Region and had never left.

“Our ancestors fed on the human race as blood food — delicious in taste. The Sacred Body of the human race contains precious blood within; the flavor must be even more wonderful.” Huotan’s disciple boasted wildly, not putting Ye Fan in his eyes at all.

This was unbearable — many cultivators who heard it felt infuriated; if they had sufficient cultivation, they would have surely slapped them dead.

“Huotan, go home — your grandpa is calling you to wipe your nose!” That day, Long Ma stepped forward to respond, shouting like a giant loudspeaker, resounding across half the sky of the Southern Region.

Of course, after shouting it fled immediately, controlling formation arrays, giving the Saint no chance to strike — otherwise ten horse-lives wouldn’t be enough to pay for it.

Huotan’s face turned ashen, his gaze sinister, arriving at the spot where Long Ma had appeared in the first instant, but could only glare uselessly, with no way to act.

“Huotan, calling yourself a Saint, you’re not ashamed to compete with Ye Fan for supremacy? That man hasn’t even become a Saint yet — how thick is your skin? Why don’t you go challenge the Victorious Fighting Buddha instead? I’m afraid you’d be scared to death before you even reached Mount Sumeru.”

Long Ma appeared in another region, neighing loudly like a great lama, shouting across the world, mocking in the same manner.

“Ye Fan, if you dare come out and fight, my master won’t even bully you — he’ll seal his own power and just needs one finger to crush you to death,” Huotan’s disciple shouted.

“Huotan, your mother is calling your disciple home to rinse his mouth!” Long Ma was never a very decent master; though it was an auspicious beast, it was no gentle creature either.

A divine horse caused chaos throughout the Southern Region, shouting everywhere, provoking Huotan into repeatedly crossing through the void, trying to hunt them down.

“The human race’s Sacred Body — others may say whatever they want about you, but in my eyes you’re nothing but a stinking bug, utterly insignificant. If you dare show yourself, I’ll crush you underfoot directly,” Huotan said coldly. One could imagine how much anger was pent up in his heart, otherwise he wouldn’t have spoken such words.

He was a Saint, one who had attained the Dao Fruit, yet was now repeatedly mocked by a divine horse, not taking him seriously at all — he desperately wanted to catch Long Ma immediately to establish his authority.

“Huotan, come and die!” Ye Fan appeared. Having been mocked repeatedly, he began to challenge the Saint, actually wanting to face off against him.

“Hahaha…” Upon hearing this, Huotan laughed loudly, rushing over in the first instant, his voice tearing through the sky, saying, “Just you daring to be my enemy — an ant wanting to bite a giant dragon to death, overestimating your own abilities!”

That day, everyone was stunned — was Ye Fan really going to face off against a Saint, driven beyond fury?

This was a wasteland, thick with wild grass, ancient trees also growing here and there. The Southern Region had many vast wilderness areas, with uninhabited zones occupying ninety percent of the territory.

Huotan appeared, reaching down a huge hand from far away, grabbing toward this place — a Saint’s strike would turn dozens to hundreds of li into scorched earth.

“Boom!”

Ye Fan appeared, making no other move, directly summoning his cauldron. The primordial qi of all things swirled about, and with a fierce shake, the great cauldron flipped over, sending towering flames surging into the sky.

Nine-colored mist threads became strands upon strands of Dao marks — this was the divine flame from the ninth level of the Fire Domain, capable of burning a Saint to death, surging violently upward.

The blazing sacred radiance emerged, turning the entire wasteland into a sea of fire, the earth becoming magma, the few remaining stone mountains vaporizing entirely, leaving nothing behind.

The nine-colored fire threads were too terrifying — not merely due to pure high temperature, but also containing mysterious, unfathomable Dao power capable of grinding down an Ancestral King to death.

Huotan was shocked. His extended right hand burned, blood splattering as it burned, the pain piercing to the bone — but he was a Saint after all, and with a forceful wipe, his Dao cultivation circulated, immediately stopping the injury.

Moreover, he shifted sideways thousands of zhang in an instant, narrowly avoiding the sea of fire in the blink of an eye, saying coldly, “Without becoming a Saint, you’re ultimately dust — killing you is as easy as crushing a mangy dog. Without corresponding strength, wanting to rely on external objects to be my enemy — you don’t know when to fear death!”

However, Ye Fan was also very decisive. The instant he unleashed the divine flame, he retrieved the cauldron and stepped into the chessboard formation pattern, turning and leaving.

“This Throne had already locked onto you the moment I appeared — still want to leave? Not even a descending Immortal King could save you!” Huotan’s expression was cold and cruel. He pointed a finger, a burst of light splitting out — this was meant to shatter the void, forcing Ye Fan out of the domain gate.

“Hm…” He was shocked — the domain gate remained motionless, unaffected, about to disappear.

This was the chessboard formation pattern. Back then, relying on it, one could even ferry across from Undying Mountain — even the killing formations of ancient Emperors couldn’t erase it, so a Saint naturally found it hard to destroy.

“So you came well prepared. But unfortunately, to a Saint, you’re still nothing but an ant. Since I’ve locked onto you, there’s only one path to death!” Huotan didn’t care, sneering repeatedly, stepping directly inside, following right behind as the domain gate closed.

By his side, four disciples followed together, enveloped by his sacred radiance, also entering the domain gate simultaneously, pursuing Ye Fan to kill him.

“Boom!”

After Ye Fan emerged, he stepped directly into another domain gate. This place was ablaze with radiant light, various Dao patterns activating together, forming an unrivaled killing formation.

This was meticulously laid out by Black Emperor, utilizing the mountains and terrain. Though lacking divine materials, combined with the Source Heaven Divine Array, it still achieved a terrifying Seven Extremities Great Formation!

Huotan let out an angry roar, shaking loose sacred radiance filling the sky, but his entire body was crisscrossed with dozens of wounds. Had his four disciples not been under his protection, they would have been hacked to mincemeat.

“I never imagined a Saint could be this terrifying — even a corner of a dense Emperor formation couldn’t erase him. What a pity… there are no divine materials to carve a formation,” Ye Fan murmured to himself, vanishing into the void, directly shattering the formation platform left outside, giving Huotan no chance to track him.

“Thinking of running? Not even the nine heavens and ten earths have a path for you to live — do you really think a Saint can be humiliated? Pay with your blood!” Huotan sneered coldly, waving his hand to summon an object. The shattered formation platform quickly restored itself, returning to its original state. He led his disciples in forcibly opening the domain gate and chased after them.

This was a secret treasure given to him by a Great Saint — no matter how unrivaled your formation patterns, ferrying beyond the domain would be useless; it could briefly restore your formation platform, tracking you relentlessly, like a shadow following its form.

Without doubt, this was a certain-death situation — there was simply no escaping a Saint. Before long, he would be caught up to; surviving would be harder than ascending to heaven.

“Do you think the human race’s Sacred Body is well prepared enough? In front of my master, whatever thousand schemes you have are useless — if your strength isn’t sufficient, nothing you say matters!”

“A mere trace of divine flame, plus an incomplete ancient Emperor’s killing formation, and you think you can erase a Saint? You’re too naive. My master prepared thoroughly for you, specially borrowing a secret treasure so you’d have nowhere to escape!”

“Just a tiny little Dao-Severing cultivator daring to challenge a Saint — my master will kill you like killing a chicken!”

Several of Huotan’s disciples laughed loudly, situated within the sacred light, advancing at extreme speed, spotting Ye Fan’s figure within the void.

“Swish!”

However, what they didn’t expect was that Ye Fan, within the void, once again summoned a formation platform, changing his path through the eternal darkness, vanishing once more.

Changing direction within the void, altering his route — this method made even Huotan’s expression change, clenching his fists forcefully, thinking he’d lost the trail.

“Swish!”

He slashed forcefully, the secret treasure in his palm flashing, restoring a damaged formation pattern ahead in the dark void, following right in.

“Never imagined the Great Saint’s secret treasure would be this miraculous…” He laughed heartily, no longer worried.

Ye Fan fled at extreme speed, changing formation platforms over a dozen times, each time within the void, but he still couldn’t shake off Huotan — had it been any other Saint, he would have long since lost them.

“The Great Saint’s methods are truly awe-inspiring; we can pursue relentlessly, he can’t escape us,” one of Huotan’s disciples said, delighted while also deeply fearful of the Ancient Clan Great Saint’s cultivation.

“Where has this brought us — every time it’s a direction change within the void, we have no idea of our bearing at all, impossible to predict the path ahead,” another disciple frowned.

“Let’s see how many formation platforms he has left; once he’s exhausted them, he’ll die right before our eyes — master only needs one finger to crush him to death!”

Before long, Ye Fan’s figure drew closer and closer, almost clearly visible. Huotan’s mouth curled into a cold smile, reaching out a huge hand forward, wanting to press him to death!

“Boom!”

Just then, the domain gate burst open — Ye Fan rushed out of the void, entering the real world, falling down out of it.

“He’s out of formation platforms, death is right before his eyes, hahaha…”

“Sacred Body of the human race, your death is imminent!”

Huotan’s four disciples were overjoyed, laughing cruelly.

Huotan’s eyes were cold and severe, purple hair scattered loose, his tall and mighty body imposing like a mountain. He strode forward first, but taking one step, he suddenly stumbled and fell to the ground.

Behind him, his four disciples fared even worse, tumbling straight from high in the air down to the ground, covered in blood from the fall.

“This… where is this place, why have we… lost our cultivation power!?”

The four disciples showed fear, hearts pounding, sensing something was terribly wrong.

Huotan’s expression also changed. His entire body’s Dao cultivation had been suppressed to its lowest point, extremely difficult to circulate — this sent chills down his spine. He was, after all, a Saint!

All around, dead silence, lush with vegetation, ancient herbs bearing tens of thousands of years of age — this place was unnaturally quiet, without a single sound, like a land of death.

Ahead, Ye Fan stood holding a dark golden spear, his expression cold, extremely calm and composed, no longer fleeing.

“What is this place?” Huotan felt waves of horror. As a Saint, he could summon pitifully little power right now — even flying seemed mostly impossible.

“Ah… my cultivation, my life essence!” One of Huotan’s disciples cried out in terror, feeling that not only had he lost his power, but his very life was rapidly draining away, wrinkles slowly crawling across his face!

“Noisy!”

Ye Fan snorted coldly, leaving an afterimage in place, crossing past Huotan, and with a puff, pierced through one disciple’s forehead, blood spraying high as he lifted him up.

“Bang!”

He shook his hand forcefully, and the corpse flew dozens of zhang away, motionless on impact, blood pooling out over a large area.

“You…” Huotan was furious. He was a Saint — how could he allow Ye Fan such arrogance? He swept a palm forward, but the vast, ocean-like power failed to surge out.

Ye Fan swept his spear out, golden light spilling between his fingers, the force astonishingly powerful — his physical body’s strength alone could tear apart the high heavens!

Huotan grunted, his arm trembling upon contact with the spear, nearly convulsing from the immense pain. He knew things had gone wrong — in this place, even his heaven-reaching cultivation was useless!

“What exactly is this place?!”

“Welcome to the Ancient Wasteland Forbidden Zone. Today I will slaughter a Saint and send you on your way!” Ye Fan said coldly.
