Chapter 1713: Secretary’s Code, Old Pan’s Promotion

Being someone’s secretary, the first rule is to keep a tight lip.

If unsure what to say in certain situations, it’s better to say nothing at all.

Like Xia Xiaolan’s assistant before her rebirth, who thought Xia Xiaolan was drunk and discussed her private life over the phone right in front of her – such people are completely unsuitable as assistants!

A truly good secretary or assistant must manage their speech not only in front of their superior but also in their absence.

What benefit comes from sharing your boss’s business with colleagues, friends, family, or lovers? Even if gossiping brings momentary satisfaction, what good does it really bring afterward?

None!

The gossip you spread might explode one day. While the impact on the superior is uncertain, the loose-lipped secretary will definitely be the first to go.

Xia Xiaolan thought for a moment and decided to give Yu Li some extra advice. The girl was too young – she couldn’t just sit high above, waiting for people to make mistakes before replacing them. Many problems could be prevented in advance.

“Little Yu, have you gotten used to the company?”

“Yes, President Xia. Manager Ge and other colleagues have been very helpful.”

“Don’t be nervous, I’m just asking. I think we’re more than just employer and employee – we were friends before you joined the company, right?”

What did President Xia mean?

Yu Li felt nervous.

Manager Ge couldn’t give her any hints at this moment.

Yu Li not only considered Xia Xiaolan a friend but also her benefactor. However, these personal feelings couldn’t be brought into work – this was something Yu Li had learned during her orientation.

At work, Xia Xiaolan was her boss, and she had to follow her boss’s instructions.

“President Xia, do you have something you want to tell me?”

Tsk, she knew this young girl was quite clever.

Xia Xiaolan nodded, “I want to tell you that working for me won’t affect our previous friendship. As we work together longer, this friendship will grow stronger. However, you must distinguish between business and personal matters. I personally prefer people around me to do more and talk less. This doesn’t mean you can’t speak as my secretary – I’m human too and can make mistakes, so I need a secretary beside me to remind and assist me. That’s your normal work scope, that’s what you should say. As my secretary, we’ll often be together, whether it’s my personal matters or company business, you need to grasp the proper measure of what can be said to whom and how much can be shared, understand?”

Yu Li’s expression was excited, without any indignation.

President Xia was teaching her.

With a boss willing to teach her how to work, how could she not improve!

“President Xia, I understand! At the company, you’re the boss, in life I see you as an older sister. Whatever you tell me is definitely for my own good. I’ll definitely watch what I say and do my job properly.”

Not bad, truly a quick learner.

Whether words and actions would match would take time to observe.

But she believed Little Yu wouldn’t waste this opportunity. Little Yu needed success more than ordinary young girls. Many people had poor circumstances, but Little Yu had no support and major burdens.

After speaking with Little Yu, Xia Xiaolan turned to Ge Jian: “You’re at the manager level now. Today is an exception, but in the future, let the driver handle pick-ups. Doesn’t the company have dedicated drivers?”

“Understood, President Xia.”

This tight-lipped Ge Jian probably hadn’t really taken it in.

Xia Xiaolan felt that as a manager, he should establish managerial authority and not run errands personally.

But for Ge Jian, being able to run errands for Xia Xiaolan was the real priority. He was a manager because Xia Xiaolan made him one; if she ever stopped wanting him as manager, he’d be perfectly happy to continue as bodyguard and driver.

When Xia Xiaolan arrived at the company, Ying Jinchuan was already waiting.

“When Manager Ge said President Xia was returning today, I knew you’d come to the company first.”

Ying Jinchuan might be laid-back, but he wasn’t foolish – how could he not know what the boss liked to hear?

Qihang had already rented new office space, no longer in the Jinsha Chi complex.

To save time and energy, Xia Xiaolan had put Qihang Real Estate and Qihang Architects in the same office building. Both companies were hers and their businesses overlapped, making it convenient.

For this new office location, Xia Xiaolan had received two invitations – both Huo Chenzhou and Du Zhaohui had invited Qihang to move in… Heh, Xia Xiaolan chose neither, simply placing the company elsewhere, using the excuse that she couldn’t wait for their buildings to be completed.

She knew in her heart that Qihang would eventually have its own office building. Renting from anyone else’s building couldn’t compare to having your own!

Now was just a transition phase.

Let’s see if this mass-market project could take Qihang to the next level.

When Xia Xiaolan entered the company, a chorus of “Hello, President Xia” greeted her. Some old employees had left, new ones had joined. After saying some encouraging words, she took Little Yu into her office.

“President Xia, the bank approved Qihang’s loan application, finally approving a 28 million yuan credit line. Also, Director Pan has been promoted – he’s now Vice President of the Shenzhen branch.”

“Oh? Then we must congratulate Vice President Pan!”

Though both were vice presidents, Pan Yijun was quite different from Xia Xiaolan’s old acquaintance Vice President Wu.

Banks typically had three levels: head office, branch, and sub-branch.

The head office oversaw national or global operations, with one branch per major city, like the Beijing branch or Shenzhen branch. Below branches were several sub-branches, and below those were smaller outlets called “banking offices.”

Vice President Wu was vice president of a Beijing sub-branch.

But Pan Yijun had become vice president of the Shenzhen branch.

Though Shenzhen currently had fewer sub-branches than Beijing and fewer banking offices, this didn’t mean Pan Yijun’s authority was small.

Old Pan had made quite a leap upward – a friend’s promotion was good news for both Xia Xiaolan and Qihang. Though the Shenzhen branch had multiple vice presidents, she wondered if Old Pan still managed loans… Well, no need to ask, Pan Yijun himself understood – without managing loans, the promotion wouldn’t be worth it!

Some bank officials viewed the loan department as a fierce beast, especially in remote areas where managing loans meant worrying about who to lend to.

They couldn’t just chase urban workers for loans, could they?

Urban workers and farmers at this time were very afraid of owing money to banks – suggesting they take loans would frighten them sleepless.

Only in the Special Economic Zone was the situation reversed.

If loans were available, small business owners would be overjoyed… Constantly exposed to new things, SEZ entrepreneurs weren’t foolish – why would they refuse the opportunity to make money using bank money?

They just lacked loan channels, or being traders moving from place to place, they had no assets to mortgage.

“Now that I’m back, I must treat Vice President Pan to a meal, must personally congratulate him.”

It wouldn’t be appropriate to have Little Yu arrange this – Pan Yijun had been promoted, Xia Xiaolan needed to make the invitation call personally!
