The disc cast from greenish-gold metal had a diameter of a hundred zhang. It flowed with a cold and piercing metallic sheen and had descended upon the Gazing Void Platform โ lying there like an ancient ferocious beast in dormancy.
People surrounded it from all directions, yet not a single one dared to make another move. The light emitted by the massive metal disc could annihilate space itself โ the casualties among the cultivators just moments ago had been severe.
“Never in my life have I seen a heavenly object of such enormous size. I’m afraid this lies beyond the reach of anyone below the level of a supreme patriarch.”
“This is a supreme treasure, yet it’s a pity one can only look and not retrieve it. It truly is helpless.”
The many cultivators debated endlessly, yet not one dared to act rashly. The bloody lesson lay right before their eyes โ no one was willing to throw their life away.
“What manner of thing is this, falling from the star domains without burning to ash? Could it be the weapon of an ancient sage of old?” the Great Black Dog said skeptically.
Ye Fan and Pang Bo exchanged whispered words, discussing among themselves for a moment โ then both simultaneously sent out their divine senses toward the greenish-gold disc, hoping to use their spiritual awareness to communicate with whatever being might be inside.
In their view, this was very likely a civilization from beyond the domain. If they could establish a good relationship with them, perhaps they could use that connection to cross the star domains and return to the other end of the starry sky.
“Pop!”
Unfortunately, their divine sense could not penetrate inward. A gentle radiance swirled around the exterior of the greenish-gold disc, blocking all things and isolating both their spiritual awarenesses entirely from within.
It was a layer of mysterious energy barrier โ neither Dao power nor divine sense could penetrate it, keeping whatever lay inside safely protected. This caused both of them to furrow their brows.
“Quickly, send word at once โ whichever Holy Master arrives first, this supreme treasure will be his!”
“Send a message to the family immediately โ have the patriarch come and retrieve the divine object!”
Many people reacted swiftly, and the news instantly spread in all directions. In an instant, Wangkong Ancient City began to seethe.
Suddenly, robes billowing, an elderly silhouette appeared in the distant sky, drifting gracefully over. His hair was white as a crane’s feathers yet his face had the complexion of youth; his wide sleeves floated in the breeze โ he looked every bit like a divine old immortal transcendent from this world.
“A great power of the Immortal Crane Clan has arrived!”
Many human cultivators sensed that things had taken a bad turn. The demon clan’s Immortal Crane lineage was settled right here in this city โ at this moment, having the advantage of proximity was as obvious as could be. A cultivator of the Holy Master level had appeared, and how could anyone else possibly compete?
After the great upheaval of the Dark Age more than a hundred thousand years ago had ended, ten thousand demon clan titans had chosen to seclude themselves in the Central Region of the Eastern Wastelands. The Immortal Crane Clan was among the most distinguished of these โ legend had it that the patriarch of that era had been an ancient sage who looked down upon all of the Eastern Wastelands.
He had chosen one of the ten great ancient cities as his dwelling place, and not a single person had objected. No one had dared to stand in opposition โ which was essentially to say that the Immortal Crane Clan was the true master of this city.
“All of you, stand back. Let this old one take a look at what this thing actually is,” the great power of the Immortal Crane Clan said, his eyes shooting forth points of brilliant light as he nodded continuously.
The greenish-gold disc seemed to possess awareness. Sensing the dangerous aura, the pure white radiance enveloping its exterior blazed even more intensely, erecting a vast curtain of light.
“Divine object from beyond the domain โ let this old one see what is so remarkable about you!” The old patriarch of the Immortal Crane lineage made his move. His great hand swept across the heavens, covering the vault of the sky, and directly reached toward the disc to seize it.
“Patriarch, be careful โ it can annihilate the void!” Several members of the Immortal Crane Clan were present here. Having witnessed that terrifying spectacle moments ago, they all called out in warning.
“Boom!”
The greenish-gold disc trembled and shot forth a blinding ray of light that cleaved a great fissure through the void, spreading all the way to the horizon.
The old patriarch of the Immortal Crane lineage stood firm and unmoved, heedless of the collapsing void around him. He stood like a divine sacred being โ undestroyed โ yet he did furrow his brows.
“Hmmm!”
The greenish-gold disc shuddered, and the radiance it shot out intensified even further, ceaselessly annihilating the void โ it was making every effort to resist that great hand reaching down toward it.
Though the old patriarch of the Immortal Crane lineage possessed boundless divine power, faced with such a terrifying spectacle, even he found it inadvisable to simply grab it by force. He sealed off the high sky with his world-shaking Dao power. A massive form of an immortal crane materialized, forming a splendid canopy across the heavens, pressing downward โ he intended to cover the greenish-gold disc and trap it beneath.
“Boom!”
The void shattered. The mysterious divine object from beyond the domain shot up high into the sky and was not sealed beneath. Sensing the danger, it sought to fly upward and away.
“Where do you think you’re going!”
The old patriarch of the Immortal Crane lineage let out a mild shout, and a ray of light surged from his mouth, rapidly striking upward โ “pop!” โ it collided with the greenish-gold disc, sending it into a shuddering spin, nearly knocking it from the sky. The light barrier upon its surface dimmed noticeably.
“Old friend, allow me to lend you a hand!” A long cry rang out, coming at a speed far beyond sound โ countless times beyond the speed at which the voice traveled.
This was a tall and powerful elderly man. Golden light blazed all around him like raging flame as he split the sky in his approach โ his golden hair flew wildly in the wind, and his skin too rippled with golden radiance. He looked like a divine god.
This was none other than the renowned Golden-Winged Elder Roc King โ a peerless expert of tremendous fame among the demon clans, and a great figure among the demon clans of the Central Region, capable of looking down upon all under heaven.
“Crash!”
He thrust out a great hand to grab the greenish-gold disc and carry it away โ but was blocked by the interference of the Immortal Crane Clan’s old patriarch.
“Elder Roc King, are you here to assist me, or do you intend to keep it for yourself?”
“We’re old brothers โ what is there to divide between us? Let me have a look first, and I’ll hand it to you in a moment!” The Elder Roc King laughed heartily, his entire body blazing with golden light as if forged from pure gold.
“Better that I show it to you in a moment,” the Immortal Crane patriarch shook his head.
“Boom!”
The greenish-gold disc released its most ferocious burst of light, shattering the void and annihilating all tangible matter within range. Even the Golden-Winged Elder Roc King was startled โ his enormous golden hand had no time to dodge and was struck dead-on.
“Splash!”
A flash of vivid radiance, and dozens of droplets of blood sprinkled down from high in the sky. The Golden-Winged Elder Roc King furrowed his brow. A small cut had appeared in the center of his palm. He sighed lightly: “I don’t know how many years it’s been โ not a single person has ever managed to wound me. Yet today, it’s drawn blood from my hand.”
Everyone fell speechless. That was a force capable of annihilating space, and yet it had only managed to open a small wound in his palm โ the mere thought made people’s hair stand on end.
Just how powerful was this old Heavenly Roc? The thought was truly staggering โ it struck everyone’s heart with a chill to the extreme. This was what a terrifying Holy Master-level being looked like โ able to look down upon the vast great earth.
Even Ye Fan and Pang Bo and the others exchanged glances, a wave of headache washing over them. The supreme patriarch level was truly beyond reckoning. Their hearts welled with wave after wave of cold dread.
The Heavenly Roc Clan’s physical body was terrifying, but it was not absolutely indestructible. The Elder Roc King had just used his boundless divine power combined with the Great Dao to withstand that supreme strike.
“Old friends, allow me to help you!” Another voice arrived. The person who came was traveling at a speed far beyond sound โ a middle-aged man in appearance, powerfully imposing, with black hair falling like a waterfall, and deep and profound eyes. Upright and commanding in bearing โ it was the Holy Master of the Wind Clan.
“Let this old man also take a look at what this thing actually is.” Yet another elder crossed through the void and arrived โ his hair white as snow, eyes blazing like divine lightning, spirit vigorous and alert. Someone recognized him: this was the Holy Master of the Wan Chu Sacred Land, already more than two thousand years old, his remaining lifespan nearly exhausted, his true strength unfathomably deep.
Several great figures spoke without any trace of fire in their voices โ calm and unhurried โ yet when they began to move, none of them yielded an inch. Every one of them wanted to be the one to seize the greenish-gold disc, and they mutually obstructed each other.
“Surely this can’t actually be a divine object tempered by an ancient sage of old?” Many people grew alarmed โ otherwise, why would several Holy Master-level figures take such keen personal interest?
Even Ye Fan and Pang Bo began to have doubts. Calling it a flying saucer might not be quite right either โ perhaps it truly was a supreme treasure after all. Even if there were civilizations from beyond the domain, how could one possibly encounter them so easily?
The several great figures fought and competed for the greenish-gold disc, neither side giving way, striking out at each other through the void.
“Whoosh!”
Suddenly, the greenish-gold disc pierced through the void, punching open a black hole, and dove straight into it โ vanishing rapidly.
“A supreme treasure that can cross the void on its own โ exceedingly rare under all the heavens. Could it truly be connected to an ancient sage of old?!”
Many people were greatly startled by this sight. Even if the weapons of Holy Master-level figures had awakened their own “divine spirit,” they would not be this spiritually aware. This was in all likelihood a treasure of a sage.
“Chase it!”
The Elder Roc King was the first to plunge into the black hole, pursuing it through this ready-made domain gate, absolutely unwilling to let it go. The other several Holy Masters and patriarchs did likewise โ in a flash, all of them disappeared, following in pursuit.
“Should we go take a look?” Tu Fei, the big mouth, was a little restless.
“Let’s go and see. Most likely it really is a treasure of an ancient sage, and especially because it comes from beyond the domain โ it carries a meaning beyond the ordinary,” the Black Emperor said. “I can confirm which direction it flew in.” Pang Bo asked, for by now the domain gate had already closed.
“Who does this Emperor think he is? The various spatial runes for opening domain gates hold no challenge for me. This Emperor can confirm its bearing and distance with absolute certainty,” the Great Black Dog said boastfully.
“Doggy is boasting again,” Xiao Nannan sat on its back and said innocently.
Everyone burst out laughing. Li Heishui said, “Not long ago you were six million li off course โ even little Nannan doesn’t believe you anymore.”
“This time I guarantee there’s no mistake!” The Great Black Dog rapidly began carving the spatial runes.
At the same moment, within Wangkong Ancient City, many domain gates opened simultaneously. Quite a few skilled practitioners who were proficient in array runes had also confirmed the direction in which the greenish-gold disc had flown.
“Move!”
Ye Fan and the others crossed through the void and vanished in the blink of an eye.
When they emerged, they found themselves in a stretch of primordial wilderness. An endless expanse of primitive ancient forest stretched in every direction โ ancient trees soaring to heaven in dense growth โ with no way of knowing how many tens of thousands of years had passed since anyone last came here.
In the distance, mountain ranges had collapsed, and jagged rocks pierced the clouds โ Holy Master-level figures were locked in great battle, creating a scene of terrifying devastation. The greenish-gold disc too was shooting out endless divine radiance, sweeping away all tangible matter in its path.
“This really doesn’t look much like a flying saucer โ the power it wields is just too great!” Pang Bo muttered, then added: “If it were, then that civilization from beyond the domain would be alarmingly advanced.”
“If it truly were a spacecraft, I imagine the people inside would be even more horrified. From their perspective, several Holy Master-level figures would undoubtedly look like undying divine demons,” Ye Fan said with a smile.
“What is a spacecraft?” Xiao Nannan blinked her large eyes and asked.
“It is a divine object that only an ancient sage of old could refine โ a supreme and peerless treasure,” the Black Emperor interjected, causing Ye Fan to nervously wipe a cold sweat from his brow.
Quite a few people appeared in this region โ all having followed along. They watched from a safe distance.
“Boom!”
The greenish-gold disc once again pierced the void and vanished from where it had been. Several great figures gave chase relentlessly.
And so it went โ after dozens of void crossings, with battles and pauses in between, the sky had long since brightened fully, the red sun having already risen. It was impossible to know just how far they had traveled through the void.
Throughout the Central Region of the Eastern Wastelands, many great sects had received word. Ancient lineages of the demon clans surged into motion one after another, and powerful cultivators from the Purple Palace Sacred Land and the Dao Yi Sacred Land had also rushed over.
“Something’s wrong โ the aura of this place is terrifyingly oppressive. Where have we ended up?” the Black Emperor said, deeply unsettled.
After the final void crossing, everyone detected something abnormal โ they all felt their hearts jumping and their flesh crawling.
This was a primordial territory โ wilderness stretching endlessly, and many ancient trees towered into the high sky, each as large as a small mountain. Countless ancient vines had buried entire mountains beneath them.
Everything was so utterly primordial. These vines and trees โ it was impossible to know how many years they had grown. They should long since have transformed into great demons, yet they were still in their original forms, never having gained spiritual awareness.
Occasionally one could spot strange beasts โ all of which were beyond anything seen or heard of before. Each one was bizarre and terrifying, suffused with an aura of danger. All were ancient spiritually aware beasts.
“Give them a wide berth. Those strange beasts are all inconceivably powerful existences โ descendants of the various primordial wild beast kings from before the Primordial Age. Do not provoke them under any circumstances!” the Black Emperor warned.
Among the demon clans there were certain beings who were born with supreme and extraordinary power, filled with towering arrogance. They spent their entire lives without choosing to take human form, unwilling to integrate into a world dominated by humans.
Such fearsome existences always evolved continuously in the form of beast kings, treading a completely different path from demon clan members who had taken human form โ alien in nature, indifferent to humanity. Once provoked, they would leave behind mountains of corpses and oceans of blood with no one able to stop them.
Ahead, the Holy Masters were in the midst of great battle, shattering several major mountains, and in doing so had stirred up a wild beast king of incomparable power โ it was a Dragon Horse. Enormous beyond imagination, as large as a mountain peak โ a dragon’s head, a horse’s body, and qilin feet โ its entire form scarlet-red as blood, as though blazing flames were burning across it.
It reared its head and let out a long cry โ no weaker than any of the Holy Masters present โ and charged into their midst, shattering an entire great mountain range with a single roar.
“What place is this?” Quite a few people had crossed through the void and followed to this location; all of them wore expressions of bewilderment.
After all had followed the greenish-gold disc and the Holy Masters forward for more than a hundred li, the sense of danger grew even more intense โ every person felt cold shivers running across their entire body.
Even the Holy Masters locked in battle grew unsettled and wary, and even the primordial wild beast king fell silent, ceasing its roaring โ though the battle continued, an eerie quiet had descended upon it.
“What’s ahead…” Ye Fan’s heart jumped.
“A black mountain range โ it looks rather peculiar,” Pang Bo said, equally unsettled and uncertain.
“So we’ve ended up here…” the Great Black Dog couldn’t help wiping cold sweat from its face. “Fortunately, there was no deviation this time. If we’d gone off course and fallen into that mountain range, none of us would come out alive.”
With every step forward, one could feel the terrifying aura intensify โ unsettling one’s very heart and spirit. It was as though they were gradually drawing closer to some supremely dreadful existence.
The mountain range loomed with an awesome and profound might, towering majestically โ as though it had stood in this very place since the first separation of heaven and earth. Every single peak was worthy of the title of king among mountains and emperor among ranges, monumental and magnificent.
The mountains above were lush with dense greenery, covered with ancient trees that had stood since time immemorial, and dotted with lakes interspersed among the slopes. Yet none of that could obscure the mountain range’s true nature: jet black.
“What place is this exactly?” Tu Fei felt his heart jumping with alarm and couldn’t stop himself from asking.
“The Undying Mountain!” The Black Emperor’s expression turned solemn.
“What?! We’re at the foot of the Undying Mountain? We’ve actually come here?!” Li Heishui was greatly startled.
The group all quietly rejoiced, looking over at the Great Black Dog together. Fortunately, it had been reasonably reliable this time and hadn’t deviated too far โ otherwise, people would truly have died.
“Stop looking at me like that. Who does this Emperor think it is? How could I possibly get myself killed through carelessness!” the Great Black Dog muttered guiltily.
The several Holy Master-level figures had fought their way to the foot of the Undying Mountain. All of them were deeply wary now, their earlier boundless divine power reined in โ none daring to act recklessly, terrified of what might emerge from within.
Concerning the Undying Mountain, there were far too many terrifying legends. The beings that had walked out from within had once brought calamity across the great earth, causing rivers of blood to flow among the human clans, leaving mountains of bones in their wake โ giving rise to the most horrific Dark Age in history.
Had it not been for the Sacred Physique of Great Completion and the Great Emperors of antiquity successively arising, exerting the combined effort of two lifetimes to suppress it all, even the history of the Eastern Wastelands’ human clans might have been rewritten.
Drawing near to the jet-black Undying Mountain, with its peaks standing like kings and emperors of the mountain world โ towering and magnificent โ the terrifying aura sent hearts shuddering. Every single person was struck with awe.
Ye Fan wanted to tuck little Xiao Nannan into the Jade Pure Vial so she wouldn’t be frightened โ but to his surprise, he discovered she was perfectly fine. She was the only one who had not been affected at all. Her little face was rosy and flushed, and she sat on the Black Emperor’s back, blinking her large eyes and gazing into the mountains with curious wonder.
“You don’t need to worry about her. In a moment you could send little darling into the Undying Mountain to pick some Enlightenment Tea to eat and she’d be perfectly fine,” the Great Black Dog mumbled.
“What are you saying?!” Ye Fan scolded.
“I’m not joking at all. In the world as it stands today, she may well be the only one who could enter the Undying Mountain and return safely,” the Great Black Dog said.
“Boom!”
Suddenly, the greenish-gold disc flashed with light and plunged into the Undying Mountain.
