Xi Ju Nv Shen – Chapter 56

“Tomorrow’s exam, and my admission ticket is still at home.” Wu Mangmang suddenly looked up at Lu Sui after scrolling through her social media feed long enough.

“Just have Annie go to your place and get it,” Lu Sui didn’t seem to think this was a problem.

Wu Mangmang stood up, “No, I have to go back. Your place is too far from the city center. If I get up too early tomorrow for the exam, I’ll be in poor spirits.”

Lu Sui quietly looked at Wu Mangmang for three seconds, then nodded, “That’s fine too.”

When getting in the car, Wu Mangmang saw the driver putting Lu Sui’s suitcase into the trunk. She cursed silently in her heart – it couldn’t be what she was thinking, could it?

So Wu Mangmang very tactfully said to Lu Sui, “Actually, I don’t really like other people coming to my house. Everyone should have their own private space, right?”

“Mm.” Lu Sui responded perfunctorily.

But Wu Mangmang could see he looked completely unperturbed, without the slightest unusual expression, and knew this man hadn’t taken her words to heart at all.

“Actually, it’s like this – people and animals are the same, they all have territorial behavior. Once their territory is invaded by others, it triggers various discomfort or even fighting. I feel like someone is strangling my neck and I can’t breathe.”

“Just like this.” Wu Mangmang made a gesture of strangling her own neck with one hand while pinching her nose with the other to show she was having difficulty breathing.

“I can get you an oxygen bag,” Lu Sui said.

Wu Mangmang immediately deflated and poked Lu Sui’s cheek with her finger, “Don’t play dumb.”

Lu Sui took Wu Mangmang’s hand away and held it in his palm, “Next time you don’t want me to do something, don’t refuse so directly – it’ll arouse my curiosity.”

Boss Lu had already made it clear he was very curious about Wu Mangmang’s private territory, so Wu Mangmang could be said to have been escorted to her front door.

“Open the door, what are you spacing out for?” Lu Sui squeezed Wu Mangmang’s waist while holding her.

Wu Mangmang entered the password, input her fingerprint, then turned back to Lu Sui viciously, “You’re not welcome here, you bandit.”

Lu Sui looked completely indifferent – Wu Mangmang wasn’t the first person to call him a bandit.

“You like this decorating style?” Lu Sui swept his gaze around Wu Mangmang’s Chinese-style decorated apartment.

Wu Mangmang didn’t answer, first going to the refrigerator to get some cold milk to calm her nerves.

When she finished drinking and went looking for Lu Sui everywhere, she found him standing in her bedroom.

“Clear out a drawer for me to put things in, and make space in a wardrobe too,” Lu Sui said.

He really didn’t consider himself an outsider, Wu Mangmang thought to herself.

“You’re only staying one night, why did you bring so much stuff?” Wu Mangmang asked unceremoniously.

“Better to be prepared,” Lu Sui answered naturally.

“There’s no guest room here. You can pick whichever daybed you fancy,” Wu Mangmang said.

Ancient-style architecture never lacked beds – you could lie down anywhere.

“Mm.” Lu Sui nodded.

This was beyond Wu Mangmang’s expectations. Ever since Lu Sui changed his screen name, Wu Mangmang felt she had seen through his dirty thoughts. She’d been thinking he would definitely insist on staying in her bedroom, but Lu Sui had agreed easily.

This left Wu Mangmang with a kind of emptiness, as if her fighting spirit hadn’t been properly released.

Lu Sui casually opened Wu Mangmang’s wardrobe and looked at the antique-style dresses inside, asking, “I heard ancient people wore ku. When you wear these clothes, do you also wear ku?”

This was blatant flirting.

Ku were pants without a waist or crotch – basically like two long socks pulled over the feet, very breezy. When women wore them, it made it most convenient for the male head of household to conduct business.

Wu Mangmang hadn’t expected Lu Sui to know about “ku” – he must have done a lot of extracurricular reading during history class.

Wu Mangmang stepped forward and closed the wardrobe right in front of Lu Sui’s face, “Don’t you dream about it.”

Lu Sui laughed out loud, lowering his head to blow in Wu Mangmang’s ear, “What am I dreaming about? How do you know?”

Want to compete over who’s more shameless?

Wu Mangmang gently pushed Lu Sui’s face away with her hand, then opened the wardrobe on the other side – a uniform collection of ancient-style undergarments, including ku, also known as “shin clothes.”

Made of white, thin silk.

Then Wu Mangmang pulled down Lu Sui’s neck and learned from him, blowing air as she said, “This concubine sleeps in these at night.”

“Don’t court death,” Lu Sui unceremoniously pulled away Wu Mangmang’s hands from around his neck, “I’m going to wash up.”

Wu Mangmang was so angry she jumped up and down behind him. This person – he could tease you all he wanted, but if you teased him back, you were courting death.

When it was time to sleep at night, Wu Mangmang had been looking forward to a little passion, but Lu Sui slept on the daybed like a dead pig, without half a thought of night raids on fragrant chambers.

Wu Mangmang couldn’t figure it out. The boyfriends she’d dated before, although things never worked out in the end, were really more eager than the next. They could get hard just from seeing you in a camisole. If Wu Mangmang hadn’t been skilled in self-defense, she probably would have lost her virginity eight hundred years ago.

But with Lu Sui, the situation was different. This man had first-class self-control and was very good at calculating precisely. For example, the Christmas dinner – he knew she would refuse him, so he simply didn’t bother to ask for trouble. And tonight, he knew trying anything would definitely be futile, so he could restrain himself and sleep soundly.

As for Wu Mangmang, because she didn’t have a chance to thoroughly humiliate him to vent her frustration at being bullied, she tossed and turned, thinking in her heart that men like Lu Sui with no romantic sense were truly bad luck for whoever ended up with them.

When she got up in the morning, Wu Mangmang was completely unsurprised to find an extra pimple on her nose.

During breakfast, Wu Mangmang kept feeling like Lu Sui was glancing at her nose tip intentionally or not, so when going out she not only wore a hat but also a thick scarf and a mask. She looked like a patient with a severe cold going out.

Given that Lu Sui had dragged her out of bed at six o’clock, when Wu Mangmang went out it was only seven. Although there was some traffic near the exam site, Wu Mangmang wasn’t late at all. Especially since the campus parking lot later became insufficient, Wu Mangmang was extremely happy watching those people driving around frantically looking for parking.

“Want me to take a commemorative photo for you?” Lu Sui asked.

Wu Mangmang’s features now only had her eyes showing. She thought about it conflictedly for thirty seconds, then heard Lu Sui say, “We can use a beauty camera to remove the pimple.”

Wu Mangmang angrily pulled off her scarf – all the concealer she’d applied this morning was wasted.

“I had Sister Liu make you some heat-clearing soup. You can drink it as soon as you come out of the exam,” Lu Sui said.

If Lu Sui’s fingers weren’t touching her earlobes, Wu Mangmang would probably think Lu Sui was very considerate, but now she always felt like he was mocking her.

Police tape had already been set up outside the exam site. Lu Sui couldn’t enter the exam building, so after Wu Mangmang walked up the steps, she turned back and waved goodbye to Lu Sui. She saw Lu Sui raise his hand and casually wave the back of his hand at her, which suddenly reminded her of her middle school entrance exams.

Back then, other children had their parents accompanying them for exams, while Wu Mangmang was dropped off at school by a driver. Although it didn’t really affect anything, when she saw other children waving goodbye to their parents, she couldn’t help feeling envious.

Wu Mangmang turned and ran to the second floor, leaning out from the terrace to see Lu Sui still standing below the academic building with his hands in his coat pockets, attracting the gazes of girls all around. Even those who liked pretty boys or were into BL weren’t exceptions – after all, handsome guys were always nice to look at.

Wu Mangmang excitedly waved her arms at Lu Sui again, her face breaking into a huge smile brighter than the winter sun. Lu Sui had no choice but to wave back at Wu Mangmang again.

Wu Mangmang ran to the third floor terrace and leaned out to look at Lu Sui again, blowing him a kiss. When she got to the fourth floor, she channeled a Korean drama heroine, joining her hands together to make a heart shape and blow it to Lu Sui.

Lu Sui could only shake his head repeatedly.

Although there was sun today, the classroom had neither air conditioning nor heating. Wu Mangmang, long away from campus life, hadn’t remembered this detail, so she could only answer questions while stamping her feet from the cold. By the time the exam was over, she was frozen like a dog.

Wu Mangmang ran downstairs while turning on her phone to call Lu Sui. The call had just connected when she saw Lu Sui standing outside the building, looking for her in the crowd.

Wu Mangmang rushed out and hugged Lu Sui’s waist, shouting “Daddy!”

Lu Sui’s body clearly stiffened.

People passing by were actually all paying attention to this “father and daughter” pair with stunning looks.

Some looked calm, just thinking this dad really spoiled his daughter – accompanying her to exams even though she was old enough for graduate school.

Of course, some people thought it was the daughter who was spoiled, completely lacking independent living ability, probably only taking graduate exams because she couldn’t find work.

Naturally, there were also those who let their imaginations run wild, thinking this father-daughter pair’s behavior was ambiguous.

Wu Mangmang didn’t care about any of this. She only felt happy, happy, and more happy. She stood on tiptoes and kissed Lu Sui’s lips again and again.

Suddenly everyone showed expressions like they’d “seen a ghost,” and someone quick-eyed and quick-handed silently pressed their phone’s camera button.

Some group chat or forum would probably soon have a post titled “Eye-opener: Father and daughter kissing on the street.”

“How are you here? I thought you’d left,” Wu Mangmang said, “Were you waiting outside for me this whole time?”

“I made a few phone calls in the car,” Lu Sui said.

He reached out to pull Wu Mangmang’s hand, frowning, “Why are they so cold? There’s no heating in the classroom?”

“No,” Wu Mangmang said, “University classroom conditions aren’t as good as our high school.”

Wu Mangmang jumped three times in place, “What are we eating for lunch? Are there any small restaurants around here that you’ve been to?”

“For lunch I’ll have Sister Liu deliver food, in case you get food poisoning and it affects your exam,” Lu Sui took Wu Mangmang’s hand and got in the car.

Since no one was in the car, the air conditioning wasn’t on. Lu Sui took off Wu Mangmang’s shoes and had her put her feet in his lap.

Wu Mangmang was stunned by this treatment. She rested her chin on her knees and looked at Lu Sui making phone calls, praising Mr. Lu’s methods for pursuing women in her heart. Her falling under his suit pants again wouldn’t be unfair.

The car started and stopped in front of a hotel next to the school.

“Go up and rest for a bit. I booked a room. We’ll stay here tonight so you can sleep in a bit later tomorrow,” Lu Sui said.

“Then why didn’t we come here yesterday?” Wu Mangmang asked.

“Didn’t you make a fuss about going back to your place yesterday?” Lu Sui asked back.

Even someone as dense as Wu Mangmang knew that hotels near schools would definitely be fully booked these two days. Although Lu Sui had connections everywhere, he should have made reservations in advance.

So he did it on purpose yesterday, right? Just to invade her home?

As soon as they entered the room, Wu Mangmang hugged Lu Sui from behind, “This counts as coming to a hotel room in broad daylight, right? Your intentions are impure.”

Lu Sui gently pried Wu Mangmang’s hands away and stepped aside. Only then did Wu Mangmang see clearly that Old Peter and Annie were both in the suite.

Even with Wu Mangmang’s thick skin, she couldn’t quite handle this moment.

“Go wash your hands and eat,” Lu Sui said.

Wu Mangmang immediately agreed.

During the noon rest, Wu Mangmang discovered the hotel bed sheets seemed to have been changed to the same color and brand used at Lu Sui’s mansion. It seemed Mr. Lu had quite a few quirks.

For two days of exams, after each session ended, Lu Sui was waiting for Wu Mangmang outside the venue.

When the last exam finished, it was raining – the weather forecast said sleet, with breath visible like clouds, even colder than snowy weather.

Most examinees came and went alone, so Wu Mangmang’s sense of superiority was beyond description.

“Didn’t I tell you not to wait?” Wu Mangmang complained while seeming to scold.

“If I really didn’t wait, are you sure you wouldn’t lose your temper?” Lu Sui took Wu Mangmang’s hand and warmed it for her.

“Of course not,” Wu Mangmang insisted.

Only men who’d never been in relationships would believe that.

“Let’s go. Tonight aunt is treating us to dinner.” Lu Sui’s “aunt” referred to Lu Jianan. Originally they were supposed to have dinner together the day before yesterday, but it was postponed to today because of Wu Mangmang’s exam.
