Xi Ju Nv Shen – Chapter 79

When the car reached a fork in the road, Wu Mangmang said, “Just drop me off up ahead.”

If they turned right here, it would be the road to the lake district. Wu Mangmang didn’t want to be taken to the Lu residence by Lu Sui again. Making that mistake once was enough – she didn’t want to make it a second time.

Wu Mangmang clearly knew that she and Lu Sui hadn’t broken up due to relationship problems, but because they really weren’t suitable for each other. Even if they forced themselves to be together, the result would still be a breakup.

“Are you going back to Riverside Road or the Mid-Levels?” Lu Sui asked.

Riverside Road was where Wu Mangmang’s former mansion was located.

“I’m going back to the Mid-Levels,” Wu Mangmang said.

Lu Sui drove straight at the intersection, which made Wu Mangmang breathe a sigh of relief.

Lu Sui looked at Wu Mangmang’s relieved expression, lowered his eyelids, not knowing what he was thinking.

Before the car reached the Wu residence in the Mid-Levels, Wu Mangmang asked Lu Sui to stop. She was afraid of being seen by Boss Wu or Ms. Liu that Lu Sui had brought her home, and she didn’t want to bother explaining.

Wu Mangmang looked at Lu Sui. With this person’s scheming mind, it was impossible he didn’t understand her meaning, but Lu Sui showed no displeasure on his face and even personally got out of the car to open the door for her.

“Thank you for bringing me home,” Wu Mangmang said, taking the suitcase from Lu Sui’s hand.

Lu Sui casually hummed in response.

Wu Mangmang really couldn’t figure out Lu Sui’s attitude. Did this mean he could advance or retreat as needed?

Unfortunately, Wu Mangmang had an impatient temperament and was eager to settle things. She really didn’t want to play ambiguous games with Lu Sui.

So after walking two steps, Wu Mangmang dragged her suitcase back to Lu Sui. “Lu Sui, I think we both clearly know we’re not suitable for each other. I don’t want to make the same mistake twice. You don’t need to waste time on me.”

Lu Sui didn’t speak, but his eyes became much darker.

Wu Mangmang felt her words might have been somewhat impolite, so she sincerely added: “Lu Sui, I understand your feelings. Being liked by you makes me feel honored, but we really aren’t suitable.”

Lu Sui’s eyebrows moved slightly. Seeing this micro-expression, Wu Mangmang’s heart raced with alarm – there definitely wouldn’t be anything good to follow.

Wu Mangmang quickly preempted: “I know you’re going to mention what happened last night. We’re both adults – it was just a momentary impulse. Besides, I’m not someone who can’t accept loss. Since I participated in the activity, I’m willing to accept the consequences.”

Wu Mangmang felt she had positioned herself very properly and well.

“Since you’re willing to accept the consequences, why did you resist last night?” Lu Sui mocked.

“How did I resist?!” Wu Mangmang looked completely wronged and aggrieved.

“Oh.” Hearing this, Lu Sui immediately laughed, and his smile grew wider and wider. Wu Mangmang rarely saw such dramatic expressions on his face and forgot to speak.

You had to admit, although Mr. Lu’s face was quite handsome normally, he seemed even more attractive when he smiled. His teeth were very white, and when he laughed heartily, his whole person warmed up considerably, making you hope he would always maintain this mood.

When Wu Mangmang snapped out of her appreciation of his beauty, she realized what foolish words she had said. There was really no way to communicate. She turned and walked away with her suitcase.

“By the way,” Lu Sui called from behind Wu Mangmang, “don’t buy medicine to take. You should be in your safe period now, right?”

Wu Mangmang stopped in her tracks. She had been too angry to think about this issue, though she had thought about buying medicine on the way.

Wu Mangmang was indeed in her safe period – her period had just ended.

It was just unbearable that after so long, Lu Sui still remembered her menstrual cycle.

Wu Mangmang turned back to glare at Lu Sui, then quickly ran off dragging her suitcase.

Two days later, Wu Mangmang went directly back to A University. Strangely, although she had only been there for half a year, Wu Mangmang inexplicably felt that her dormitory seemed to be her true resting harbor.

The start of the semester was busy as usual – doing experiments, researching materials, writing papers. Whether she could get a scholarship next semester depended entirely on this half year.

First-year graduate students were mainly judged by the average scores of all subjects, but there were also first-year students who published papers – they would definitely get scholarships.

Although Wu Mangmang’s finances weren’t too tight, a girl who had been poor now knew to save money. A generous scholarship could waive her tuition for the next academic year, so naturally she had to work hard for it.

So as soon as Wu Mangmang returned to school, she threw herself into busy work, pushing all the events of winter break to the back of her mind. A University was like a new map she had opened – it was another kind of rebirth.

Guo Xuefeng’s offensive was even more intense than last semester. Not only did he buy breakfast every day, but he also brought a red rose. “Mangmang, I went to your city on February 14th.”

“I didn’t know,” Wu Mangmang was a bit surprised.

Guo Xuefeng smiled. “I figured that with your father injured, you definitely wouldn’t be in the mood to come out for the holiday, so I didn’t call you. But that day I wanted to breathe in the same city as you.”

Wu Mangmang was somewhat moved. Such sincere and passionate affection could probably only be found in young people on campus.

Wu Mangmang updated her Red Apricot Weibo with a new post: “Flying to my city just to breathe in the same city as me. So touching.”

Since she had already opened Weibo, Wu Mangmang couldn’t help but browse her other alternate accounts. On her No. 13 Red Apricot account, there was a lonely Weibo post: “This red apricot is a bit dirty.”

No one was following it yet.

The weekend sunshine in March was beginning to have warmth. Wu Mangmang had a wonderful lazy morning, lingered in bed for a while, and just as she got up to brush her teeth, she heard someone knocking on the door.

Zeng Ruling had already finished washing up and was applying foundation. Hearing the knock, she got up to open the door and saw an extremely handsome man standing at the entrance.

Zeng Ruling’s eyes nearly went blind from the sight. She wanted to cover her face with both hands – God knows she had only applied half her foundation, and she thought it was a classmate from next door dropping by. Between girls, there was no need to worry about appearances.

“Who are you looking for?” Zeng Ruling asked, suppressing her desire to dig a hole and hide.

But the man had excellent manners. Seeing her half-done face, he showed no surprise or strangeness whatsoever. Just for this point alone, Zeng Ruling gave him ninety-nine points – the highest score any man had ever received in history.

“I’m looking for Wu Mangmang. Is she in?” Lu Sui asked.

Even his voice was so pleasant it could make ears pregnant. Zeng Ruling secretly added another point for Lu Sui.

Women who were face-obsessed were just so easily deceived.

Wu Mangmang’s sharp ears heard the man’s voice and immediately turned around curiously. Their girls’ dormitory building was managed quite strictly – even Guo Xuefeng had never been to their dorm.

So suddenly hearing a man’s voice, Wu Mangmang was naturally curious.

But with this one look, Wu Mangmang nearly scared herself to death. She didn’t even have time to wipe the foam from her mouth and rushed over from the balcony after opening the inner door.

Wu Mangmang had never expected that after a week, Lu Sui would have the supernatural ability to dare come to her dormitory. She definitely had to complain to the dorm supervisor.

“Little Uncle, you thought to come see me?” Wu Mangmang approached with a fake smile, turning to Zeng Ruling: “This is my little uncle I told you about.”

“Little Uncle, wait for me outside. I’ll change clothes and come out. My roommate hasn’t finished washing up yet.” Wu Mangmang spoke like a machine gun, afraid of being interrupted.

Only then did Zeng Ruling remember her half-done face. Although the little uncle was very easy on the eyes, she would still be embarrassed, so Zeng Ruling didn’t object to Wu Mangmang’s words.

Lu Sui leisurely said: “Little Uncle? I just told your dorm supervisor downstairs that I’m your little aunt’s husband. Don’t blow your cover later.” Lu Sui reached out with his thumb to wipe away a bit of toothpaste foam from the corner of Wu Mangmang’s lips.

Wu Mangmang knew Lu Sui wouldn’t cooperate with her. She could only smile stiffly at Zeng Ruling: “My little uncle just likes to joke around.”

Zeng Ruling looked at Wu Mangmang with an expression that said “you’re insulting my intelligence.”

Wu Mangmang couldn’t continue the act. She directly pushed Lu Sui out the door, grabbed his hand and walked to the window at the end of the corridor before stopping. “What are you here for?”

“I came to see my niece,” Lu Sui said with an unstoppable smile on his face.

Wu Mangmang stood on her tiptoes and put her face right in front of Lu Sui’s eyes. “Look then. When you’re done looking, you can leave.”

Lu Sui indeed looked seriously, then said: “Have you been getting heatiness lately? You have eye discharge.”

Wu Mangmang stepped on Lu Sui’s expensive leather shoe, then ran back to the dorm in embarrassment. Talking to Lu Sui would be the death of her.

Wu Mangmang immediately went to the balcony to wash her face, paying special attention to cleaning her eye corners.

Zeng Ruling had already applied her foundation, drawn her eyebrows, and put on lipstick. She sidled up to Wu Mangmang sneakily: “Your little uncle is really handsome. Do you need a little aunt?”

Wu Mangmang elbowed Zeng Ruling. “Yes.”

Zeng Ruling rolled her eyes. “Hmph, you’re just lying to me.”

Wu Mangmang said nothing.

Zeng Ruling bumped Wu Mangmang’s back with her shoulder. “Hey, seriously, who is this guy? He doesn’t look like an ordinary person.”

Wu Mangmang applied skincare products while saying: “My ex-boyfriend.”

“Holy crap,” Zeng Ruling said dramatically. “How did you break up? How could you bear to break up? Just that face alone – you could look at it for a lifetime without getting tired.”

Wu Mangmang thought to herself, that’s what I used to think too.

“Personality incompatibility,” Wu Mangmang said.

Normal people would think “personality incompatibility” was just a brush-off. Zeng Ruling’s imagination ran wild: “Did he cheat? That’s how handsome men with some money are nowadays. Now he’s turned around and thinks you’re good again, right?”

“No.” Wu Mangmang couldn’t help but vent to Zeng Ruling. “He controlled me way too strictly. I had to get up at six in the morning to exercise, go to bed at nine at night, couldn’t play games, couldn’t use my phone in front of him. In the end, he deleted all the equipment on my gaming account that I’d been building for over three years. I really couldn’t stand it anymore. Don’t you think so?”

Zeng Ruling had a completely uncomprehending expression. “That sounds wonderful. If I had someone controlling me like that, I wouldn’t have this spare tire around my waist.” Zeng Ruling pinched the fat around her waist.

“You’re blessed but don’t know it. You’re being pretentious.”

Wu Mangmang pouted. Whether a man fit or not could only be experienced by the person involved. Outsiders could only see Lu Sui’s halo.

Wu Mangmang finished applying her skincare, changed clothes, and combed her hair before opening the door. Lu Sui was indeed standing at her dorm door. Wu Mangmang looked up to see all the nearby dorm doors were open, with a group of women poking their heads out from doorframes.

These days, all the handsome guys on TV and online were uniformly fresh-faced pretty boys, more tender than women. It was rare to see someone like Lu Sui with such rich masculine charm – clearly an elite man with house and car. Everyone naturally wanted to feast their eyes.

Looking at Lu Sui, he was completely at ease, long accustomed to being the center of attention.

“Let’s go,” Wu Mangmang said to Lu Sui without good humor.

She had only taken a few steps when Zeng Ruling chased after her. “Mangmang, um, um… you’ll come back tonight, right? You must be back before eight-thirty.”

Wu Mangmang waved at Zeng Ruling. Don’t worry, she would deal with Lu Sui shortly and could still make it back for lunch.

Walking to the first floor, Wu Mangmang pulled Lu Sui in front of the dorm supervisor and said coldly and excitedly: “Auntie, how can you just let any man in? He lied to you – he’s not my little aunt’s husband. I don’t have an aunt. Aren’t you afraid something might happen to the girls upstairs by letting him in like this?”
