Chapter 209: Friends

Luo Sheng looked at Wei Han.

The man was at the prime of his vigor, his ink-jade eyes shining brilliantly.

Clear, clean, even carrying a hint of innocence.

The renowned Prince Kaiyang could not possibly be an innocent person. It could only be said that before certain people, he would reveal this purity.

Just like many people who show different faces before different individuals.

Yet Luo Sheng’s heart remained cold and hard. She said coolly: “I’m not the one who cooks. It’s Xiu Gu.”

She gave the reins a gentle shake, urging the jujube-red horse beneath her to quicken its pace, wanting to shake off this man who had just started hunting but already wanted to mooch food.

However, the big white horse blocked the jujube-red mare’s path.

The white horse kept nuzzling the red mare’s head with its mouth, emitting low whinnies.

The red mare dodged but was helpless.

Luo Sheng said with a stern face: “Your Highness, control your horse.”

Wei Han smiled apologetically: “I’m truly sorry. I didn’t expect my horse to be so thick-skinned.”

As he spoke, he patted the big white horse in warning: “Behave yourself. How can you pester Miss Luo’s horse like this!”

Luo Sheng fell silent.

She suspected Prince Kaiyang was doing this deliberately.

“Then it’s settled. When the hunt ends, I’ll deliver the wild boar to Miss Luo.” Wei Han dropped this statement, spurred his horse, and rode away.

Luo Sheng gripped the reins, unable to suppress her frustration.

This man would stop at nothing for food!

Luo Sheng rode across the grassland with a cold expression. Seeing a wild rabbit fleeing past in panic, she drew her bow, nocked an arrow, and shot.

The gray rabbit fell to the ground, twitched a few times, then lay still.

Luo Sheng rode the red mare over, bent down, and picked up the wild rabbit.

Having obtained this small trophy, she lost interest in continuing the hunt and turned back.

“Why has Third Sister returned so early?” Luo Yue, who was picking wildflowers, couldn’t help being surprised to see Luo Sheng approaching.

“I bagged a trophy, so I came back.”

Luo Yue glanced at the wild rabbit Luo Sheng was holding and was somewhat shocked: “Third Sister only hunted one wild rabbit?”

She hadn’t come to last year’s autumn hunt but had heard that Third Sister had hunted a small leopard.

Because of this, she had gained quite a reputation among the noble ladies.

Luo Sheng looked down at the wild rabbit and said: “It’s enough to roast and eat, and there are others as well.”

Luo Yue’s eyes lit up upon hearing this.

Braised wild rabbit was delicious, spicy rabbit chunks were also good, or making soup would work too…

The young woman’s mind racing through these options no longer thought about whether the trophy was impressive enough.

Hunting one wild rabbit as a trophy wasn’t holding anyone back—Prince Kaiyang had even hunted a pig.

Luo Yue carried a basket of fresh flowers, her brows and eyes smiling.

“Where’s Second Sister?” Luo Sheng asked casually.

Luo Yue came back to herself: “Second Sister said she’d walk around casually and didn’t come with me.”

“Alone?”

“She has her maids with her.”

Only then did Luo Sheng stop asking. She carried the wild rabbit forward.

“Where is Third Sister going?”

“To the stream to skin the rabbit. Does Fourth Sister want to come along?”

Luo Yue shook her head vigorously: “I’ll pass. I still need to pick more wildflowers.”

She was probably only suited for eating rabbit meat—skinning rabbits could be left to others.

Just thinking of that bloody scene, Luo Yue shuddered.

Arriving at the stream, Luo Sheng was startled to discover a familiar figure.

Hearing the sound, that person looked up.

“Why has Miss Luo come here?”

“To process my bagged prey.” Luo Sheng glanced at the gutted wild boar on the large stone by the stream. Without asking, she knew what this man was doing by the stream.

Wei Han’s dagger skillfully skinned the wild boar as he smiled: “I’m also processing my bagged prey.”

He didn’t know why his spirits suddenly soared. He simply felt delighted seeing that Miss Luo, like him, had come to the stream to process her prey.

Luo Sheng found that smile somewhat irritating and asked coolly: “Why not have your guards process such a large wild boar?”

Just dragging it to the stream would require considerable effort.

The man’s smile broadened: “Prey you process yourself surely tastes better when eaten. Doesn’t Miss Luo think so too?”

Luo Sheng held the rabbit and ignored him.

She hadn’t thought that deeply—she was just bored.

It was only the first day of hunting. Without a pretext, it wouldn’t be appropriate to rashly contact Zhaohua. She had no interest in hunting, yet she couldn’t just sit in a tent in a daze.

Wei Han had long grown accustomed to the young woman’s coolness. Seeing her silent, he showed no reaction. He cleaned his hands, walked before her, and took the wild rabbit from her.

Luo Sheng was caught off guard for a moment—her trophy was already in the other’s hands.

She watched coldly as that person carried the rabbit back to the wild boar’s side and skillfully skinned it.

In just a brief moment, the rabbit was already processed.

Wei Han placed the cleaned wild rabbit on a clean stone as well, washed his hands, and walked over.

“Miss Luo, I’ve finished processing everything.”

The corner of Luo Sheng’s mouth twitched slightly.

Did he expect her to offer praise?

“I’ll deliver the pork and rabbit meat to Miss Luo’s place now.”

Since it had all become pork and rabbit meat, what could Luo Sheng do? She could only nod coolly and turn to leave.

Wei Han placed the processed wild boar and rabbit into the bamboo basket he’d brought and quickly caught up to that青-colored figure.

Luo Sheng glanced at him sideways and asked: “Isn’t Your Highness afraid of gossip, delivering your hunted prey to my place?”

The prey caught on the first day of the autumn hunt always held different significance. She didn’t believe Prince Kaiyang was unaware of this.

As for herself? What did she fear from gossip? She was Miss Luo.

“Gossip?” Wei Han was taken aback. “Everyone knows Miss Luo brought Youjian Restaurant’s head chef. Why would there be gossip?”

The other day when he ate the sour broth fish brain noodles, seven or eight people inquired whether the noodles were good when they greeted him.

Seeing their envious eyes, he didn’t doubt for a moment that if they had some friendship with Miss Luo as he did, they would deliver their prey as well.

Luo Sheng looked deeply at Wei Han and revealed a relaxed smile: “Your Highness makes a good point.”

She might have misunderstood. Prince Kaiyang wasn’t interested in her at all—he clearly cared about the food.

This was actually better. Future interactions would be relaxed and carefree, without worrying about falling into unnecessary trouble.

That day, this person had simply drunk too much.

Gazing at the vast grassland, the young woman’s expression softened.

Getting along as ordinary friends was quite nice. As for whether they would break off friendship in the future, that could be discussed when the time came.

Wei Han suddenly felt that the young woman before him had undergone a subtle change in her attitude toward him.

Ever since that evening at the restaurant when he’d had a bit too much to drink, Miss Luo’s attitude had grown increasingly cold. Yet now it had suddenly warmed.

However, this change did not make him happy.

Had he just said something wrong?

But every sentence had been the honest truth…

“Miss Luo.”

Luo Sheng looked at him.

“I’ve never feared gossip.”

“Oh.” Luo Sheng nodded perfunctorily.

She had overthought it. Prince Kaiyang, whose belt had been pulled off by Miss Luo yet who still steadfastly frequented Youjian Restaurant, was hardly someone who feared gossip.

Looking at the calm, unruffled young woman, Wei Han suddenly felt an impulse to grasp her hand.

Yet he dared not.

He stared at her intently and said: “I only fear that the friend I wish to make doesn’t consider me a friend.”
