Synopsis:
When Qiu Xinran was young and naive, she lived in the capital, Jing, for three years. It was during a time of war in the northwest, with no one in the imperial court to lead. She publicly cast a divination in the court, and this divination sent the long-bedridden heir of the Xia family to the war-torn frontiers. For seven years, Xia Xiuyan served at the borders, marching day and night, fighting bloodily; for those same seven years, Qiu Xinran secluded herself in the mountains, indifferent to worldly matters, with the sound of the morning bell and evening drum as her only company. To the world, he was a loyal general who protected his sovereign, while she was a scheming villain who deceived both the upper and lower ranks.
Seven years later, Qiu Xinran returned to Chang’an, just as the once-weak heir, now the Marquis Dingbei, was returning to the capital after leading his troops in victory. Gambling houses in the capital opened bets on when the Marquis Dingbei would seek revenge on her. A few days later, the Marquis Dingbei, with his attendants, stepped into her small teahouse.
Qiu Xinran: “What does the Marquis wish to calculate?”
Xia Xiuyan: “Calculating fate.”
But she didn’t know, by the riverside, when the willow branches swayed in the breeze, the young man had already developed a fondness for her. Years ago, a divination in the court had revealed my distant aspirations, and I understood the long-lasting struggles of the court. Seven years of changing seasons, and one day, we meet again in the grand hall—does the old acquaintance still remember Chang’an?
