Synopsis:
Chu Linlang had never imagined that she would one day separate from her husband. After all, in the eyes of many, she was of humble birth and shallow experience—a sparrow who had flown up to perch on a high branch—hardly a match for her dashing and newly risen, powerful husband. Since she had managed to climb so high, and had endured so much along the way, she naturally intended to cling tightly to that branch.
Now, eight years after marrying into the Zhou family, she had supported her husband through years of diligent study, becoming a model of feminine perseverance. Her husband was young and promising; the two of them had once appeared perfectly harmonious, with a boundless future ahead. They had a seven-year-old daughter, bright and endearing. Her mother-in-law was a benevolent elder, gentle and kind. Even the concubines in the household respected her as the principal wife. To outsiders, the entire estate seemed filled with warmth and happiness.
But only Chu Linlang herself knew the truth: all of that was nonsense.
On her twenty-fourth birthday, amid heavy snowfall, Chu Linlang held a letter of divorce in her hands. Bearing her husband’s mocking words—“Don’t come crying back to beg me”—she left the Zhou household she had managed for eight years, walking alone through the vast white snow.
As she sat silently in the carriage, shaking a turtle shell to divine her future, the curtain was suddenly lifted. There, riding alongside her through the swirling snow, was the domineering and autocratic “treacherous minister” of the court—Situ Sheng—who bore a deep personal grudge against her and radiated a chilling air.
Chu Linlang drew a sharp breath. Just how vindictive is this man? Has he really come out into the snow just to laugh at her?
What she did not know was that Situ Sheng had been waiting for this very day for far too long…
