Chapter 2166: Modern Arc: I Never Meant to Deal With Him

Lu Beicheng turned around and walked over to Zhen Jiu’er, no longer paying attention to matters at the royal mausoleum.

Ji Mingyu went to arrange tasks for the security personnel.

Yan Qiu and He Muling were studying something again, and before long, they entered the Northern Emperor’s Tomb once more.

Only Lu Feifan was left standing alone outside the entrance of the Northern Emperor’s Tomb, looking somewhat lonely in the wind…

…Evening.

Everyone was still busy.

Jiu’er, still injured, had been “forced” into idleness.

A’Ke was looking after her while she ate dinner.

Before long, someone sat down across from her.

“Second Young Master, what would you like to eat?” A’Ke asked immediately.

“Just a simple meal.” Lu Feifan’s gaze fell on Zhen Jiu’er’s face.

Outside everything was in chaos, yet this girl could eat so calmly and quietly, completely absorbed in it.

A’Ke hurriedly brought out a pile of simple meal options. “Second Young Master, which one would you like?”

“Set A.” Lu Feifan didn’t even glance at them.

“Alright.” A’Ke went off to prepare dinner.

Jiu’er was still eating; her left arm was injured, so she tried to keep it as still as possible.

So she was eating with one hand now, her movements looking somewhat stiff.

“Need some help?” Lu Feifan looked at the boiled egg on her plate.

“Sure.” Jiu’er nodded without even glancing up at him.

“Do you have something to do later?” She was eating so attentively, yet didn’t seem to be in a hurry — it was hard to read her.

Zhen Jiu’er finally looked up at him. “Does the Second Young Master have something he wants to discuss with me?”

“Is it your habit to speak so directly?” Lu Feifan was slightly taken aback.

“Depends on who I’m talking to.” Jiu’er said flatly.

Lu Feifan stared at her face. Although she spoke concisely and to the point, strangely enough, Zhen Jiu’er’s attitude toward him held no hostility at all.

Even though he had argued with her just the day before.

Anyone who didn’t know better might think Zhen Jiu’er secretly liked him, which was why she was so tolerant of him.

But Lu Feifan knew that wasn’t the case — the person Zhen Jiu’er liked was his young uncle.

“Aren’t you going to ask about what happened last night?”

“Are you willing to tell me?”

Lu Feifan hesitated for a moment, and A’Ke arrived carrying the simple meal.

“Thanks.” Lu Feifan took it and glanced at him. “A’Ke, I have some things I want to say to Jiu’er.”

“Go ahead, I won’t disturb you.” A’Ke smiled.

Lu Feifan said helplessly, “I mean I want to talk to Jiu’er alone. A’Ke, you can’t eavesdrop.”

“But I need to protect Jiu’er…”

“How about I swap your chip for a woman’s chip instead?”

The words had barely left his mouth when A’Ke dashed off in a flash.

Before leaving, he didn’t forget to add, “Second Young Master, you must protect Jiu’er well. If you need to leave later, give me a signal first so I can come back before you go.”

With that, A’Ke vanished, off to busy himself elsewhere.

“Seems like my young uncle cares about you a lot.” Lu Feifan said unhurriedly as he ate.

“So what are you thinking, then? Do you want to use me to deal with your young uncle?”

Jiu’er’s words made Lu Feifan’s fingers pause mid-bite. He stopped and looked at her.

Zhen Jiu’er merely smiled at him, as if what she’d just said was nothing more than a joke.

She went back to drinking her soup. “Those assassins in black know you — or rather, are they your people?”

“I didn’t send them!” Lu Feifan denied it at once.

There was even a hint of grievance between his brows.

Jiu’er smiled and nodded. “Mm-hmm.”

Mm-hmm?

What was that supposed to mean?

Lu Feifan’s expression darkened somewhat. “I didn’t send them. I never meant to deal with my young uncle. Zhen Jiu’er, I’m not joking!”
