Chapter 2170: Modern Arc: Pay Up, and You’re Free to Go

Swapping A’Ke’s chip and all that wasn’t exactly impossible, it’s just… well, a bit too inhumane.

After all, he’d been a man for so many years — suddenly turning into a woman would likely be psychologically unbearable.

“Ninth Lord, why don’t I go have a word with him…”

“Say what?” Lu Beicheng raised an eyebrow.

Ji Mingyu, startled, quickly lowered his head. “N-nothing, I mean, A’Ke actually… um, he’s actually… just a robot after all.”

Lu Beicheng scoffed, turned around, and went back into the Northern Emperor’s Tomb again.

Ji Mingyu let out a breath of relief, but seeing his stiff retreating back, he immediately felt a flicker of unease again.

Ninth Lord’s mood hadn’t seemed very good lately — he was truly difficult to deal with these days.

Was it perhaps because he hadn’t had any interaction with Miss Jiu’er these past two days, and his… hormones were somewhat out of balance?

In the blink of an eye, A’Ke had carried Jiu’er all the way to the entrance of the royal mausoleum.

Everyone was busy working, though some couldn’t help but let their eyes fall on Jiu’er and A’Ke — after all, the robot was simply too huge and too high-tech to ignore.

But people only spared a couple of extra glances before returning to their work.

Ninth Lord hadn’t given everyone much time — the sooner this project ended, the better.

Of course, that Ninth Lord, with his overwhelming workload, was still staying here with them at all was already quite an extraordinary thing.

No one knew what exactly it was about this wilderness that had drawn Ninth Lord in, making him set aside such a massive conglomerate to stay here.

Ji Mingyu hurried forward to greet her. “Miss Jiu’er, what brings you here? Does your wound still hurt?”

“It doesn’t hurt.” Even if it did, she was used to it by now — why let her mind dwell on the pain?

Just ignore it, that was enough.

“Ninth Lord… went back in again?” Zhen Jiu’er slid down from A’Ke’s arm, tilting her head to peer into the royal mausoleum.

She had clearly just seen Lu Beicheng come out from inside — how had he gone right back in the moment he stepped out?

Ji Mingyu rubbed his neck, his smile a bit strained. “Seems like… he suddenly remembered something wasn’t finished, so he went back to check, probably…”

“What are you doing here?” Before Ji Mingyu could finish, Lu Beicheng’s voice came from inside.

He came back out again, this time holding a jacket in his hand.

So he had gone back in just to fetch a jacket.

Jiu’er had actually thought that seeing her had displeased him, and that he’d rather turn and go back inside than say a word to her.

“I wanted to come take a look.” She said.

“You’ve already seen the inside before — there’s nothing worth looking at.” Lu Beicheng draped the jacket over her shoulders. “Go back.”

“I just got here.” She had already been stuck at the camp for two days now — to Jiu’er, it felt no different from being locked up.

A couple of days ago the royal mausoleum had been broken into by tomb robbers, and she still hadn’t had the chance to go in and see it for herself.

Just as she was about to head in and had taken only two steps, the back of her collar suddenly went taut, and she found herself hauled back by Lu Beicheng.

He had literally hauled her by the collar!

Hoisting her up just like picking up a baby chick!

This method was, to some degree, a little humiliating.

“Lu Bei—” A cold glare from the man she was about to name cut her off, and Zhen Jiu’er had to swallow the curse she’d been about to hurl.

She glared at him, still unwilling to back down. “I just wanted to go in and take a look.”

“You’re my doctor. Wherever I go, you go.”

He turned and walked toward the camp.

A surge of irritation rushed to Jiu’er’s head, and she blurted out rather impulsively, “Fine, I quit — is that not allowed either?”

Lu Beicheng didn’t even turn his head. “Ten million in breach-of-contract fees. Pay up, and you’re free to go immediately.”
