Synopsis:
In the fifteenth year of the Zhenguan era (641 CE), a Tang dynasty envoy, Wang Xuance, is ordered by Li Shimin to journey across the shifting sands to India, where he becomes the third disciple of Xuanzang, known as “Sha Seng.” By this time, Xuanzang has already spent twelve years cultivating his practice in India, earning widespread fame—yet he now faces an unprecedented conspiracy.
It turns out that the two great empires of Persia and India are holding a grand debate on Buddhist doctrine. Three thousand religious participants and tens of thousands of spectators are invited to challenge Xuanzang in contests of spiritual power and intellect. What appears to be an ordinary assembly is in fact fraught with hidden dangers: one misstep could not only lead to Xuanzang’s destruction, but also ignite war across the Western Regions.
Wang Xuance, well-versed in the strategies of great powers, brings with him the full backing of the Tang empire, bolstering Xuanzang while simultaneously reshaping the political landscape of Eurasia. Suddenly, assassinations, kidnappings, and espionage cases unfold in rapid succession. Amid the turbulent currents of the Western Regions, Xuanzang and Wang Xuance step forward—one after the other—calmly entering this grand drama of the mortal world…
