How could this be happening!
Was Jun Beiyue trying to defy the very laws of heaven?
Never, since the founding of the Meng Clan, had such a thing occurred — a seal broken the very moment it was completed!
Was Jun Beiyue somehow a descendant of the Meng Clan, or was he simply the natural nemesis of the Meng Clan’s barrier techniques?
Faced with what was happening before them, not even Second Elder Meng, let alone Third Elder Meng, could offer any explanation!
And Prince Baxian and the others were thrown into panic as well.
“What exactly is going on?”
“Wasn’t everything fine just a moment ago? How could this happen?”
“You two elders, say something!”
…
Prince Baxian, unable to contain himself any longer, shouted furiously, “If anything happens to Prince Yao, the Jun Imperial House will not let this go easily!”
Second Elder Meng and Third Elder Meng had no time to worry about Prince Baxian’s warning — a single glance from Jun Beiyue alone would be enough to send them straight to the eighteenth level of hell.
Third Elder Meng rushed forward at once, and together with Second Elder Meng began forming seals anew.
No matter what, they absolutely had to seal the force within Jun Beiyue’s body!
Seeing the two Meng Clan elders working to fix the situation, the panicked Prince Baxian and the others didn’t dare make a move, and everyone fell silent at once.
Hearts pounded in rhythm with the two elders’ movements — if anything else went wrong, the shock alone might frighten someone to death!
But amid the tension, no one noticed that someone had appeared on the roof!
Baili Weisheng, one hand pressed to his shoulder, the other braced against the roof tiles, had just landed, nearly making a sound in the process.
The wound on his shoulder still ached, but he had no time to worry about that.
Because the little bug had woken again, circling him several times, as though it had already found the seal’s exact location and was anxious for him to come see.
The moment Baili Weisheng landed, he immediately caught sight of the chaos unfolding inside — but none of it concerned him.
At that moment, his eyes were fixed unblinkingly on the little bug!
He watched as the bug, instead of circling as before, flew directly straight at Jun Beiyue!
Baili Weisheng stared, dumbfounded, utterly unable to make sense of what the bug meant!
Could the seal be on Jun Beiyue himself?
How was that even possible? What a wild, far-fetched idea!
His mind a tangle of thoughts, Baili Weisheng kept his eyes on the bug, and to his complete astonishment, it truly did land right on Jun Beiyue’s pounding chest!
“How is there a bug here? How strange!”
Suddenly Yelu Qianqian cried out in alarm, and no sooner had she spoken than the little bug slowly settled onto Jun Beiyue’s forcefully beating chest!
In an instant, everyone’s attention turned toward it, and even Second Elder Meng and Third Elder Meng were startled.
This little bug clearly looked like some kind of poison creature, utterly unlike an ordinary insect!
In shock, Imperial Physician Gu cried out, “Chase it away!”
He moved to step forward, but just then, the little bug let out a sharp, piercing “chirp,” and instantly dissolved into thin air, leaving not even a trace behind!
Such a bizarre sight left everyone present dumbstruck, unable to comprehend what had just happened!
Prince Baxian looked toward the two Meng Clan elders in terror, but they too shook their heads, utterly baffled.
“How could this be?”
“You two elders, what was that thing just now?”
“That thing looked like some kind of poison insect!”
…
No one could answer the flood of questions. Second Elder Meng and Third Elder Meng had no idea what to make of it either, and could only wait and see.
But Jun Beiyue’s heart-pulse showed no sign of slowing at all — it kept pounding, each beat visibly more intense than the last, enough to make anyone watching fear his heart might burst right out of his chest!
After a long while, aside from the pounding heart-pulse, nothing else happened. Seeing Jun Beiyue on the verge of breaking through the seal, the two Meng Clan elders had no time left to worry about the strange bug — they immediately resumed forming seals, laying the barrier down again.
But up on the roof, Baili Weisheng had finally understood!
This was probably the first time in his life he’d encountered something he could scarcely believe!
The little bug’s reaction told him — the seal was on Jun Beiyue’s very chest!
Could it be that Meng Wanyue had done something to arrange this?
If that were true, then that woman’s mastery of barrier techniques must have reached an unimaginable peak, capable of altering the very cycle of a death barrier!
And why would she do such a thing?
Baili Weisheng didn’t have time to dwell on it further — his mind was consumed by a single thought: open the seal!
Before pinpointing the exact location, it hadn’t been wise to make a move in this heavily guarded palace, watched at all times.
But now that the precise location was confirmed, what did it matter how many people were present, or that the seal happened to be located right in Jun Beiyue’s own heart?
He, Baili Weisheng, dared to tamper with things right on top of Jun Beiyue’s head!
Baili Weisheng narrowed his cunning eyes, his gaze fixed on Jun Beiyue’s pounding heart.
He had no idea whether opening the seal might destroy this man’s heart.
Still, he thought, it wouldn’t be so bad if this sleeping god of a man died.
“Little Qingqing, big brother’s here to take you home!”
He grinned, looking for all the world like some friendly neighborhood older brother, handsome as ever.
Sunlight slanted across his face, his smile so bright and simple.
He was in an excellent mood. He pulled a porcelain vial from his sleeve and opened it, revealing a large spider curled inside — pitch black, its eight legs covered in coarse hair, utterly repulsive to look at. Most repulsive of all was its bloated belly, swollen with who-knew-what inside!
This was a mutated spider — clearly another gu insect.
Baili Weisheng glanced at it and couldn’t help shuddering a few times. “There, there…”
But his smile remained just as bright. He glanced at it once more, then without the slightest hesitation, inserted his right index finger into the vial.
Instantly, the poisonous spider lunged, its eight legs wrapping tightly around his finger, its fangs like pincers sinking in cruelly and beginning to drink his blood.
Did it hurt?
How much did it hurt?
The corners of Baili Weisheng’s mouth, the corners of his eyes, the sides of his nose — nearly his entire face twitched in pain. And yet, even so, this man seemed determined to smile, as though smiling were simply in his nature.
Even as the pain was clearly killing him, he kept right on grinning cheerfully, glancing over toward Jun Beiyue!
He waited… waited for the poisonous spider to drink its fill, and then he would open the seal!
This was the method recorded in those three ancient scrolls. The death barrier of the Poisonous Beast World was an extremely special kind of death barrier, instantly flooded with all manner of poisons and toxins the moment it was disturbed. Outside of the natural cycle’s designated time, the only way to open it was with the blood of a male human-gu hybrid!
Though he wasn’t yet a fully realized human-gu himself, at the very least his body carried the essence of a human-gu!
His blood was enough to open the seal!
As Baili Weisheng waited, and the two clan elders of the Beast tribe strained with all their effort, and as Jun Beiyue, still unconscious, continued the struggle he had never once stopped for over a year and a half — everything hung in a state of complete uncertainty.
Whichever side moved first would send events spinning in a completely different direction, one hundred and eighty degrees reversed.
No one could predict how it would all turn out.
But for now, at least, the surface of Xuanlong Palace remained calm!
And yet, at that very moment, the entire Poisonous Beast World was shaking!
No one could have imagined that one small dagger could bring about such an earth-shattering upheaval in the Poisonous Beast World!
