Chapter 91: I Can Kill

Jiang Si met A-fei at the newly rented place.

“Thank you for your hard work.”

After traveling continuously, A-fei looked a bit darker, but his spirits were high.

“Miss, you’re too kind. It’s not hard work at all to serve you,” A-fei said with a wave of his hand.

With money to earn and hope for the future, how could he feel it was hard work?

“What happened to that person in the end?”

A-fei scratched his head, looking at Jiang Si hesitantly.

Jiang Si didn’t rush him, quietly waiting for A-fei’s answer.

She had done her best. As for how to choose, that was someone else’s freedom.

A-fei studied Jiang Si’s expression and chuckled dryly: “That brother came to the capital with me.”

Jiang Si put down her teacup: “Could it be that he wants to see me?”

Besides this, she couldn’t think of any other reason for that person to enter the capital again.

A-fei looked surprised: “Yes, he insisted on coming to see you. I couldn’t shake him off, so I had to let him come along.”

“Where is he?”

“I’ve temporarily settled him in an inn. Are you willing to see him, Miss?”

Jiang Si thought for a moment, then nodded: “Arrange it. I’ll meet him.”

A man who had spent over a decade investigating his fiancée’s death then took his own life at her grave after avenging her – his devotion was unquestionable, and his persistence was alarming.

The matter with Daoist Nun Liu had finally been perfectly resolved. If she refused to see this man and he caused a disturbance in the capital, it would be a headache.

“Where do you plan to meet him, Miss? Would Tianxiang Tea House be suitable?”

“That place isn’t appropriate,” Jiang Si shook her head.

This man was different from A-fei.

Although A-fei was a street ruffian, he was a native of the capital. He wouldn’t attract attention anywhere. But if such a man were to meet at a tea house, it would be too eye-catching.

After some thought, Jiang Si made a decision: “Just bring him here.”

A-fei hesitated for a moment: “Miss, are you sure you want to meet here?”

Jiang Si smiled gracefully: “It’s just a rented house anyway, it doesn’t matter.”

“Alright then, I’ll bring him over right away.”

Jiang Si sat patiently in a wicker chair in the courtyard, while A-man stood beside her, fanning her with a delicate silk fan.

The cicadas in the trees chirped incessantly.

A-man finally couldn’t hold back anymore. She tucked the fan into her waist and tugged at Jiang Si’s sleeve, asking, “Miss, did that scoundrel take advantage of you last night?”

At first, when she heard that slap, she didn’t think much of it. But later, she realized something was off.

If the miss hadn’t been taken advantage of by that scoundrel, why would she slap him?

Jiang Si raised her eyes to look at A-man, her mood instantly darkening: “Never mention last night’s events again.”

A-man suddenly covered her mouth: “Then, then you were taken advantage of. Oh my, this servant deserves to die! I should have rushed in at that time!”

“A-man!” Jiang Si called out softly, her fair face flushing red.

This wasn’t from embarrassment but from anger.

Thinking of that scoundrel’s audacious behavior, and how she couldn’t bring herself to teach him a lesson at the time, Jiang Si was angry both at Yu Jin and herself.

And now this girl was bringing up exactly what she shouldn’t.

“Oh, it looks like A-fei is back,” A-man quickly slipped away, seeing that her miss was truly angry.

A-fei walked in with a tall, sturdy man by his side.

“Miss, this is General Qin,” A-fei hurriedly introduced.

Jiang Si’s gaze fell on the man, and she nodded politely but distantly.

At that time, she had no one else to use, and A-fei happened to fall into her hands. Such a person who feared death and knew how to maneuver was easy to control.

But the man before her was different. A person who didn’t fear death and had no attachments in this world – she could not manipulate him.

For such a person, it was naturally best to be polite and see him off peacefully if possible.

“Are you the one who wrote the letter?” The man strode forward, asking impatiently.

A-man immediately stepped in front of Jiang Si, her eyebrows raised in anger: “Where are your manners? You’ve frightened or missed.”

“A-man, step aside,” Jiang Si dismissed A-man, then nodded slightly to the man, “Yes, it was me.”

“How did you know?” The man asked excitedly.

“I can’t tell you that,” Jiang Si smiled. “But General Qin, does it matter? Isn’t it enough that you’ve achieved your wish?”

“I—” The man clenched his fists until they cracked, staring motionlessly at Jiang Si.

A man grew nervous.

She could sense that this man before them was no mere fool. It might not be easy for her to handle him.

A-fei also became tense.

He had developed some camaraderie with this brother on their journey. If the miss were to deal with him harshly, should he plead for mercy or not?

“I have one more question to ask,” the man stared intently at Jiang Si, as if afraid she might run away. “Just one question.”

Jiang Si smiled naturally and warmly: “Go ahead, General Qin.”

“Did my wife not wait for me? Has she truly been reborn?”

Seeing the man’s nervous expression, A-fei rolled his eyes.

This brother had traveled hundreds of miles to the capital just to ask this?

He could answer this question himself – it was a lie made up by the miss.

Jiang Si remained silent.

She could understand this man’s behavior.

To anyone else, this would be an absurd question. But for a man who had thought of and longed for his wife for over a decade, it was the motivation for him to live or die.

So he traveled hundreds of miles, just to stand before her and ask this one question to the person who had helped him uncover the truth.

For others to ask this question would be ridiculous; for others to answer it would be laughable.

But in this situation, the person asking was utterly serious and devout, and he only wanted to hear the answer from the person before him.

“What kind of person does General Qin think his wife was?”

“She was the best girl – kind, strong, lovable…” A string of beautiful words flowed from the man’s mouth.

Jiang Si smiled: “Since General Qin’s wife was so wonderful, she certainly wouldn’t have stayed in hell to suffer. I believe she was reborn long ago.”

The man’s whole body shook, and he staggered back a few steps, suddenly covering his face.

In the sunlight, the big, rough man stood in the courtyard, crying silently. The cicadas in the trees suddenly fell quiet, ceasing their irritating calls.

“Well, if the brother’s wife has been reborn, she’d be a young woman by now,” A-fei, unable to bear the heavy atmosphere, joked.

The man paused, suddenly lowering his hands, his eyes shining.

A-fei dared not speak anymore.

He felt he might have caused trouble.

“Hehe, brother, we’ve asked what we came to ask. Let me take you back to the inn for a meal.”

The man shook his head: “I have no money for food.”

He had spent all his money during his last trip to the capital to kill someone.

“I’ll treat you! Now that you’re in the capital, I can at least buy you a meal.”

“I also have no money to return home.”

“I’ll pay for your travel expenses!” A-fei gritted his teeth.

The man looked at A-fee for a moment, then suddenly bowed to Jiang Si: “I want to work for you, miss, to earn my keep.”

Xi-mei had always said she wanted to see what the capital looked like. If she had been reborn, she would probably like it here.

He wanted to stay in the place she would have liked.

Jiang Si never expected such a turn of events. After a moment’s hesitation, she said, “I don’t keep useless people.”

The man revealed a confident smile: “I can kill.”
