Feng Rui stopped, reached up with a large hand, and gripped the woman’s chin, smiling wickedly.
The instant the woman looked up and met his eyes, the smile on her face stiffened.
Fortunately, she had weathered enough storms in her line of work and quickly composed herself.
“General Feng.” The woman clasped his large hand. “You must be exhausted. Shall we go to the private room together?”
Feng Rui roughly left a fingerprint on the woman’s fair chin before letting her go.
He curled his lips again and strode forward on his long, powerful legs toward the inn.
The corner of the woman’s mouth lifted, and she immediately followed with alluring steps.
Once Feng Rui had gone inside, his troops formed a neat perimeter around the inn.
At the inn next door, Xiao Yingtao finished checking the room and came to Feng Jiu’er’s side.
“What are you looking at? So absorbed in it.”
“Feng Rui is here,” Feng Jiu’er said, turning away.
Xiao Yingtao leaned out over the windowsill. “Where’d he go? That brothel?”
Outside the Yuelai Inn, there were noticeably more soldiers than before.
Xiao Yingtao shook her head in disdain and looked away as well.
“What kind of person goes to a place like that every single day?”
Before Feng Jiu’er could respond, Jian Yi pushed the door open and walked in.
“Nothing unusual.”
“Good.” Feng Jiu’er nodded. “Rest for a while. We’ll move once night falls.”
Business at the Yuelai Inn was better than at any of the other inns, and it didn’t quiet down until well past midnight.
Feng Jiu’er and Jian Yi waited until the deepest hour of night before setting out — in the blink of an eye, two dark shadows arrived above the Yuelai Inn.
The Yuelai Inn was quite large. Besides the three-story main building at the front, there were also two large courtyard compounds, one behind the other.
Beyond the compounds was a larger yard, and scattered within it, at the rear, stood a number of small houses.
At this hour, aside from some light still glowing in the corridors and courtyard, everywhere else lay in darkness.
“Jian Yi, you take the right, I’ll take the left. We’ll meet up in the back courtyard. Remember — no matter what happens, don’t act rashly.”
Feng Jiu’er patted Jian Yi’s shoulder and stepped forward.
Jian Yi glanced back, said nothing, and vanished into the moonlight in an instant.
The two of them had already noticed on the way in that the guards around the inn were far more than they appeared to be on the surface.
Had it not been for the fact that both Feng Jiu’er and Jian Yi were top-tier in inner strength and lightness skill alike, slipping in unnoticed would have been nearly impossible.
Feng Jiu’er moved from the third floor down to the first, from the front courtyard to the back, not missing a single room along the way.
At last, she met up with Jian Yi in a large tree at the corner of the back courtyard.
“Find anything?” Feng Jiu’er gripped a branch and looked in the direction of Jian Yi’s gaze.
Outside a smaller house at the back of the courtyard sat four burly men, each holding a large blade, eyes occasionally sweeping the surroundings.
Suddenly, a large hand closed over Feng Jiu’er’s small one.
Jian Yi led her to the rooftop of another building and had her lie flat.
The spot they were in was some distance from the small house, and with leaves overhead blocking the moonlight, the darkness there was more than sufficient.
Looking out from a distance, Feng Jiu’er could just make out, through the house’s window, someone lying on the bed inside.
Looking closer, the person on the bed was small in stature — either a child, or a very thin, slight woman.
From their angle, they could see not only the person inside the room but also the burly guards stationed on the other side of the house.
Feng Jiu’er studied the scene carefully for a while, then rested her fair, small hand on Jian Yi’s broad shoulder.
“Sixteen of them — not a problem, is it?”
Jian Yi turned his head, brow furrowing slightly. “We can’t act rashly!”
“Right.” Feng Jiu’er nodded. “So I’m asking — could you draw sixteen men away by yourself, or not?”
“Of course we can’t act now. There are over two thousand people nearby, and there are only two of us. I’m not that reckless!”
Feng Jiu’er’s gaze fell back on the small house. “I just want to confirm the identity of the person inside.”
