Su Muyu quickly exited the Waiting Gold Tower with Mu Yumo following, who asked in a low voice, “Why leave so soon? We hadn’t reached any conclusions.”
“Tang Lingkui couldn’t offer any conclusions. He wasn’t tonight’s main character from the Tang Clan,” Su Muyu replied coolly.
Mu Yumo asked puzzled, “Then who was?”
Su Changhe walked up beside them and stretched lazily. “That young man who poured the wine.”
“That person?” Mu Yumo frowned.
“He disguised himself quite well, but some people’s brilliance simply can’t be concealed,” Su Changhe smiled. “He should be Tang Lingzun of the Tang Clan’s Four Champions.”
“But he looked so young,” Mu Yumo said bewildered. “How could he be Tang Lingzun?”
Su Muyu replied, “Tang Lingzun is the Tang Clan’s Inner Chamber Overseer, highly skilled in medicine. Maintaining a youthful appearance is no difficult task for him.”
In the Waiting Gold Tower, the young man who had been pouring wine earlier played with a wine cup in his hand, looking at Tang Lingkui and asking softly, “Do you think they recognized my identity?”
Tang Lingkui hesitated without answering.
“They probably did,” the young man smiled. “The Su Clan Master probably realized when he kept talking to me. Surely he wasn’t just making conversation because he found me attractive?”
Tang Lingkui and Tang Lingro exchanged glances, both seeing the helplessness in each other’s eyes.
“Though that Su Clan Master is quite handsome, isn’t he?” The young man’s expression suddenly brightened. “I expected someone ghost-like, but instead found a gentleman, refined as jade.”
Tang Lingkui and Tang Lingro remained silent. At first, Tang Lingkui didn’t dare speak; now he simply didn’t want to.
“What were his conditions again?” the young man suddenly asked.
Tang Lingkui finally spoke: “He wanted you to appear.”
The young man nodded. “That’s naturally not a problem.”
“And he wanted Mu Xuwei,” Tang Lingkui continued.
The young man stood up. “Lingro, handle it.”
Tang Lingro was startled. “But… Mu Xuwei is with Master Nightcrow now. Master Nightcrow…”
“This is Tang Clan territory. Do we need to bow to someone from Medicine King Valley?” The young man gave Tang Lingro a cold look. “Go tell him that if he has anything left to do, finish it within three days, then hand over Mu Xuwei unharmed. If he has any objections, tell him to come find me.”
“Yes… Overseer!” Tang Lingro agreed reluctantly.
“Why are you still standing here? Go find him! That psychopath might kill Mu Xuwei if you delay even a moment,” the young man barked.
Tang Lingro sighed softly and left.
The young man then glanced at Tang Lingkui. “That masked person earlier, what do you think? Could it be Su Changhe?”
Tang Lingkui shook his head. “It shouldn’t be Su Changhe. If it were him, he wouldn’t be so conspicuous. That would defeat the purpose of hiding his identity.”
“Seems we still don’t understand these Dark River people well enough,” the young man smiled.
In a secret chamber of the Tang Clan.
Ghost Doctor Nightcrow sat on a wooden stool, before him Mu Xuwei was bound in iron chains, her body covered in blood stains from apparent torture. Beside Nightcrow was Xin Baicao, also heavily chained but unmarked, his pupils filled with rage yet unable to speak a word.
“Senior Brother, this is the poisoned person Master spoke of years ago. I searched the world without finding one, yet unexpectedly encountered one in Brocade City,” Nightcrow said quietly. “Imagine how terrifying a being combining a poison person with a medicine person technique would be.”
Xin Baicao clenched his fists but still couldn’t utter a word.
“Hahaha, in terms of medical skill, Senior Brother, you’re indeed far superior to me. But regarding the arcane arts beyond medicine, Master, you can’t compare to me.” Nightcrow waved his hand, and two medicine people appeared before him and Xin Baicao. “These two medicine people were Golden Body realm masters in life. After being made into medicine people, they became immortal and invulnerable. Now, using the deadly poison from this Poison Flower, I’ve refined them into toxic medicine people. Anyone struck by them even once… below Transcendent realm, none would survive longer than the time it takes to burn an incense stick.”
“I… pah.” Mu Xuwei slowly regained consciousness and managed a weak curse.
“Master Nightcrow.” Tang Lingro entered at this moment.
Nightcrow turned slightly, waving his hand to push Xin Baicao through a hidden door behind them. “Why has the Vice Overseer suddenly come? Weren’t you hosting several Dark River clan masters today to discuss an alliance?”
Tang Lingro nodded. “We just finished our discussion. Dark River has presented their conditions.”
“Conditions?” Nightcrow looked at Mu Xuwei before him. “It seems these conditions concern me.”
“They require us to return Mu Xuwei,” Tang Lingro said gravely.
“But what if Mu Xuwei is already dead?” Nightcrow sneered.
Tang Lingro sighed softly. “Dark River is not easy to negotiate with. Please understand, Master Nightcrow.”
“Without me, could you have subdued Tang Linghuang?” Nightcrow played with a pearl in his hand. “Now you ask for my understanding? Is Dark River so frightening? Once, I nearly killed that Su Clan Master. He has a major weakness, you know.”
“Weakness?” Tang Lingro asked puzzled.
“He is a kind person,” Nightcrow said slowly. “An assassin who is kind – that is a major weakness.”
“But the Overseer wishes to avoid conflict with Dark River now,” Tang Lingro said slowly. “So he says that in three days, he hopes to see an unharmed Mu Xuwei. During these three days, he hopes Master Nightcrow can complete whatever you wish to do.”
“Very well.” To Tang Lingro’s surprise, Nightcrow didn’t refuse. He stood up, gently stroking Mu Xuwei’s face. “Three days. If I make you a non-poisonous person in these three days, will you be grateful to me? Or hate me?”
“A non-poisonous person?” Tang Lingro frowned.
“Hahaha. If possible, who would want to be a poison flower?” Nightcrow looked at Tang Lingro. “Go report to the Overseer. In three days, I’ll return an unharmed Mu Xuwei to him.”
The barely conscious Mu Xuwei mumbled, “You can remove the poison from my body?”
“I might not be able to,” Nightcrow turned his head, looking at the hidden door. “But working with someone, perhaps we can.”
