Synopsis:
In the third year of the Zhenguan era, Xuanzang disguised himself as a refugee and fled from Chang’an, intending to journey west. Unexpectedly, as soon as he entered Liangzhou, he was pursued and arrested by government forces. It turned out that Li Shimin was preparing a military campaign against the Eastern Turks, and to prevent any leakage of intelligence, all unauthorized departures beyond the frontier were strictly forbidden.
At this time, someone informed Xuanzang that in Dunhuang there existed a hidden ancient route that led directly to the Western Regions. However, along the way, pursuers, assassins, and spies followed one after another. Xuanzang fled continuously, wandering between deserts and oases—from the city of Dunhuang to Yumen Pass—climbing cliffs and entering Buddhist caves…
Unexpectedly, he stumbled upon a forbidden secret of all Dunhuang: a shocking and intricate conspiracy involving multiple powers—Turks, Sogdia, Tokhara, Persia, and Tuyuhun—one that could sever the entire Silk Road.
Outside the scheme lie vast deserts, the Buddhist grottoes of Dunhuang, and flying apsara murals… Within it, the yellow sands are stained with blood, bleached bones sing songs of sorrow, and on the road to the West, an inescapable trial of life and death awaits.
