Chapter 56: Worrying

His words made things worse, as Li Ye immediately blocked the path more firmly.

After all, as longtime adversaries, neither would let the other have an easy time.

He had a fiery temper, but Xin Wu wasn’t someone to be trifled with either, so Li Ye had already prepared himself for a fight, just waiting for him to make the first move.

However, unexpectedly, despite his provocation, Xin Wu wasn’t angry.

He looked up and even showed a hint of helplessness: “Something’s happened at Xiaxin Palace.”

This soft tone made Li Ye uncomfortable, and his mist-colored eyes immediately filled with disdain: “Has someone destroyed the immortal sect?”

“No.”

“Then why are you so anxious?” He sneered, “You’re neither the ruler of Xiaxin Palace, nor do you have relatives there. What business is it of yours to worry?”

Hesitating to speak, Xin Wu narrowed his eyes: “Your person is also there.”

His person?

Li Ye was bewildered for a moment, then the mist in his eyes suddenly darkened: “Er’er?”

“Yes.” Walking past him, Xin Wu continued forward, “If we’re any later, who knows what might happen.”

Long Xu had a bad temper to begin with, and he had always tried to minimize her interactions with others. He never expected that today, having left for just a moment, something would still happen. He couldn’t foresee exactly what had occurred, but…

Xin Wu wore a necklace at his chest, with the pendant hidden inside his robe where others couldn’t see it. Only when Long Xu was in trouble would it become scalding hot, so hot that he couldn’t ignore it even if he wanted to.

Flicking his sleeve in slight annoyance, Xin Wu somewhat detested his current emotions, which he could neither control nor help feeling ashamed of. To make matters worse, Li Ye had witnessed it and was probably laughing at him.

Languidly turning his head, Xin Wu wanted to see if Li Ye was following, but as soon as he looked aside, he saw a fiery red figure dash past him, heading straight for Xiaxin Palace.

Xin Wu:?

What was he worrying about?

A barrier had already been erected near Xiaxin Palace, with a fierce battle raging inside. Er’er, protected by the Phoenix-Slaying Blade, retreated from the main hall and looked up to see Long Xu circling in the air, letting out a long howl.

That howl made one’s chest ache, and Er’er uncomfortably covered her head, turning to look at Dui Ren: “Can’t you just talk things out?”

Dui Ren held the Dragon-Devouring Talisman in his hand, laughing coldly: “What is there to discuss with a dragon demon? She has never been reasonable. Why not take this opportunity to send her soul back to heaven and earth? It would also avenge my elder brother.”

The Dragon-Devouring Talisman was extremely harmful to dragons. As soon as its light dispersed, Long Xu’s agonized roar could be heard, shaking heaven and earth.

Er’er frowned deeply, looking at the talisman in his hand: “If she were truly unreasonable, why would she have taught this to you all?”

Looking at her with a strange expression, Dui Ren’s eyes were full of mockery: “Yes, why would she rather teach the Dragon-Devouring Talisman to us and insist on marrying into Xiaxin Palace? Why don’t you ask her?”

Dui Feng was known throughout the Nine Heavens as a useless immortal. Training with him was harmful rather than beneficial. Even the lowest-ranking immortals were unwilling to become his immortal companion. Yet this princess of the Western Sea was willing to bear tremendous pressure to ascend to the Nine Heavens and enter Xiaxin Palace. Who would believe she had no ulterior motives?

However, Dui Ren never imagined that she would kill Dui Feng.

Hatred flashed in his eyes as Dui Ren chanted faster, wishing to channel all his spiritual power into the Dragon-Devouring Talisman to tear Long Xu into pieces.

Silver scales were ripped open, blood streaming down. Long Xu roared with reddened eyes, watching as the Dragon-Devouring Talisman rushed toward her, yet showing no intention of retreating, stubbornly preparing to charge forward.

She knew she couldn’t withstand it, but she simply refused to yield!

Why should these people falsely accuse her at will? Why must she always bow her head? She would not!

With a long howl, Long Xu swung her tail and charged forward.

A gust of wind came and blocked her dragon horn.

Long Xu was startled, her eyes still filled with rage as she looked up fiercely.

Then she met a pair of gloomy eyes.

Her dragon whiskers floated like rippling water in the wind. Her red pupils paused, then slowly returned to black. Long Xu turned away somewhat embarrassedly and gradually transformed back into human form.

“Why did you come back?” She mumbled, “Weren’t you going to see the diviner of the Heavenly Way?”

She was injured and swayed as she stood. Xin Wu supported her irritably and curved his lips without any trace of a smile: “Thanks to you.”

“This isn’t my fault.” Quickly tidying her hair, Long Xu wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth and said with downcast eyes, “They falsely accused me first.”

“Accused you of what?”

“…” Stiffening slightly, Long Xu glanced at him and vaguely said, “Accused me of murder.”

With an ominous feeling, Xin Wu’s face darkened as he looked down.

Dui Feng’s residence had already been reduced to ruins. On the empty ground nearby, Dui Ren was coldly gazing at him.

“You’ve finally arrived.” He withdrew his hand and lightly patted it. “Planning for several hundred years, Xin Wu, you’ve had it tough.”

Without engaging him in conversation, Xin Wu’s gaze fell on the formation behind him.

Dui Feng’s physical body lay in the formation, seemingly for summoning his soul, but there was only death energy around him without any sign of life, clearly indicating he had been dead for a long time.

The hand supporting Long Xu paused, and Xin Wu suddenly let go as if shocked by electricity.

Long Xu didn’t react immediately and stumbled, falling downward. Her eyes widened slightly as she stared at Xin Wu.

“Be careful!” Er’er shouted, wanting to rush forward to catch her, but she ran too slowly and even tripped over the Phoenix-Slaying Blade, lunging forward.

Oh no, Er’er thought, covering her head with her hands. From this angle, she was likely to crash together with Long Xu and be smashed to paste.

A flash of fire came from behind, catching Long Xu and throwing her to level ground.

Then, a pair of brocade boots stepped onto the soil of Xiaxin Palace.

Er’er kept her eyes tightly shut, but the expected pain never came. She hugged her head and waited for quite a while, only to hear a wave of exclamations around her, followed by the sound of magical weapons being summoned.

Surprised, she opened her eyes and looked up, just in time to see a familiar jawline.

“Don’t you know how to walk?” Li Ye sneered, his mist-colored eyes looking down like a moonlit lake.

The boss has come to save the day!

Er’er excitedly stood up, grabbed his arm, and said: “Quick, save them!”

“Haven’t I already?” He lazily moved his arm and turned to look in Long Xu’s direction. “What do others have to do with me?”

Er’er raised an eyebrow and looked around with him, only then realizing that the Dui clan immortals had shifted from besieging Long Xu to surrounding the boss. Countless people around them were summoning magical weapons and formations. Even Dui Ren was glaring at Li Ye with a pale face.

“What are you doing here?” Facing Li Ye, Dui Ren was trying to appear fierce despite his fear. “This is an internal matter of my Xiaxin Palace.”

“Hmm.” Responding with disinterest, Li Ye raised his hand to retrieve the Phoenix-Slaying Blade, then hoisted Er’er onto his shoulder. “I won’t disturb you then. Carry on.”

“Wait!” Dui Ren stepped forward, hesitated for a moment, and then pointed at Er’er. “You can leave, but she stays. My brother suddenly passed away, and she is also a suspect!”
