Dai Wo You Zui Shi – Chapter 237

Finally, they arrived.

The convoy stopped on a dark green hillside. Luo Yu pulled You Mingxu from the car. One glance at the surroundings told her this location had been carefully chosen. They were among mountain peaks, positioned on the slope of the highest one. Regular vehicles couldn’t reach this height—only their high-performance off-road vehicles had managed the climb. These vehicles carried the money and goods, while the bandits forced their hostages to walk up the mountain.

You Mingxu first spotted Xu Mengshan. His wounded leg had received basic bandaging—they wanted to prolong his survival. But the dressing was crude, with blood already soaking through. Xu Mengshan’s face was ghostly pale, but he managed a slight nod when he saw You Mingxu.

She felt some relief.

Next came Xing Yanjun, pale but unharmed. Huang Long and Guo Feirong followed, their faces bruised and bodies hunched from apparent beatings.

You Mingxu’s heart tightened—she hadn’t seen Jing Ping yet.

Then a car door opened, and someone was kicked to the ground, lying motionless. You Mingxu froze at the sight. The figure was covered in blood, stripped to undergarments, and despite the short time that had passed, was covered in cuts, burns, and stab wounds. His chest bore crude bandaging—intended to prevent him from dying too quickly.

His eyes were closed, unconscious, but his body trembled involuntarily from the pain.

Tears sprang to You Mingxu’s eyes as she tried to run to him, but Luo Yu held her back. “He won’t die yet,” he said coldly. “They have many ways to keep a police officer alive for three days and nights of torture.”

You Mingxu forced back her tears. Though Luo Yu’s words were cruel, they gave her hope. Three days. If they could buy enough time, help might arrive to save Jing Ping.

“Don’t let him die,” You Mingxu said. “Or I’ll hunt you down for the rest of my life, even if it kills me!”

Luo Yu remained calm, asking softly, “Do you care for him that much? What about Yin Feng?”

You Mingxu shouted, “He’s my comrade! My brother!”

Luo Yu had never seen her cry before, but now tears streamed down her face. She stared at him fiercely, her defiant expression mixed with vulnerable tears creating an otherworldly beauty.

After a few seconds of silence, Luo Yu answered, “Fine, I promise to keep him alive for now.”

You Mingxu hesitated, glancing toward Jing Ping but unable to bear the sight any longer, her heart in agony.

Nearby, Xu Mengshan was enraged. “Brother Jing!” he shouted, trying to rush forward, but two bandits restrained and beat him until he couldn’t stand.

You Mingxu’s tears had stopped, though her eyes remained red as she walked past Jing Ping’s unconscious form with Luo Yu, forcing herself not to look. She heard them dragging him toward the mountaintop. Looking into the distance, she saw silent mountains shrouded in mist, their green forests stretching endlessly. These police officers might be walking toward their deaths, but she hoped their sacrifice would not be in vain. More officers would follow this path, bringing these demons of darkness to justice.

Her heart grew surprisingly calm as if this were just another routine mission. She pushed aside all distractions and emotions, beginning to observe her surroundings.

They had reached the summit.

Luo Yu had chosen the position well. Her tracker likely wouldn’t have a signal here. The high ground and steep slopes on all sides meant they could spot anyone approaching—they’d know immediately if Xing Jifu brought company.

Forty minutes remained until the meeting time. No one was visible below. Only wind disturbed the mountain’s silence.

They had about twenty men, some watching the perimeter, others guarding the hostages. You Mingxu was isolated, thoroughly bound, with two of Luo Yu’s men standing guard.

The other hostages—Jing Ping, Xu Mengshan, Xing Yanjun, Huang Long, and Guo Feirong—were grouped on the ground at gunpoint.

Luo Yu, Lei Yu, and Sun Yuan conferred briefly, all smiling. Then Lei Yu approached the cigarette between his fingers. You Mingxu’s heart clenched as he walked toward the hostages.

Jing Ping lay unconscious. Xu Mengshan crawled in front of him protectively, but a bandit kicked him, grinding his boot into Xu Mengshan’s wound. Xu Mengshan cried out in pain, immobilized.

Lei Yu crouched before Jing Ping, studying his old enemy.

No one knew what the Yunnan drug lord was thinking, or how much this former narcotics officer had once terrified him. Lei Yu’s face showed satisfaction and distortion, his eyes full of hatred. He stood and stomped on Jing Ping’s chest wound. Jing Ping coughed blood and opened his eyes.

His swollen face showed remarkably little expression as he stared at Lei Yu without fear.

His composure enraged Lei Yu, who grabbed Jing Ping’s head and slammed it against the ground repeatedly. “Dead cop!” he snarled. “Jing Ping, you’re not so powerful now! All those dealers in Yunnan feared you! Called you the Viper—ha! A soft-skinned cop called the Viper! How many of my brothers did you arrest? Now it’s your turn! I’ll take your head back to Yunnan, and show everyone! Are you scared? Ha ha ha!”

Jing Ping raised his head, seemingly devoid of strength, and spat blood directly into Lei Yu’s face.

Lei Yu laughed maniacally and released him, signaling his men to continue the beating.

“We’ve played long enough,” Lei Yu said. “Brother Luo, I’ve shown you respect. But this cop is dangerous—I won’t rest easy until he’s dead. Knife.” A subordinate handed him a dagger.

You Mingxu watched Jing Ping barely breathing, her heart constricting. Despite the beating, he seemed to sense something and looked in her direction.

You Mingxu wept silently.

Jing Ping managed a slight smile. His face was barely recognizable, but she could still see his calm, gentle expression.

You Mingxu’s heart shattered. “Luo Yu!” she cried out.

Luo Yu glanced at her expressionlessly, then approached Lei Yu. “Brother Lei, do me a favor. Of course, we’ll kill him—I want him dead too, he covets my woman! But before he dies, let me give him one last gift?”

Lei Yu frowned. “What?”

Luo Yu pointed at You Mingxu. “We have time, and the men are bored. Let’s have some entertainment. I want him to watch as I break her spirit.”
