Chapter 1835: Mr. Du, I Want to Do Real Estate

Find something meaningful to do.

Du Chengrong was genuinely surprised when he first heard this.

He wasn’t an ordinary person.

Having risen from the underworld, built everything from scratch, and achieved his current status, along with the wisdom granted by passing years, he instantly understood Xia Ziyu’s psychology.

Today’s events had affected her – the caged bird wanted others’ respect!

Du Chengrong found this amusing. From a man’s perspective, he was satisfied with Xia Ziyu. If he weren’t, he wouldn’t have given her official status, wouldn’t have agreed to her pregnancy, and wouldn’t have protected her.

But she wasn’t the only woman he’d been satisfied with.

For a man like Du Chengrong, his needs for women differed at each stage of life. His first three concubines had appeared at times that matched his needs then, so he married them.

This kind of satisfaction was physical… expecting Du Chengrong to respect and appreciate Xia Ziyu as an equal was simply too difficult.

Things hadn’t started well – she was meant to be just a kept woman, giving money would have been much simpler.

Now the kept woman wanted more, which made things complicated.

However, Du Chengrong was in an excellent mood today, which made him more patient:

“Tell me what meaningful work you want to do. I remember you like dancing and swimming, though both are temporarily stopped due to your pregnancy. Perhaps you’d like to learn flower arranging or tea ceremony?”

Neither dancing nor swimming were her hobbies!

Dancing was to maintain flexibility because Du Chengrong liked women who could dance, so she had no choice but to like it.

Swimming served a similar purpose.

It was to maintain her figure and prevent weight gain.

Xia Ziyu felt frustrated inside.

“Mr. Du, please don’t tease me. When I say meaningful work, I mean a real business, not developing new hobbies like flower arranging or tea ceremony.”

Du Chengrong nodded perfunctorily, “Then what business do you want to do?”

“Real estate! If others can do it, why can’t I? Mr. Du, this industry makes money.”

Xia Ziyu didn’t know how to explain.

Even setting aside Xia Xiaolan’s successful example and not looking at Du Zhaohui’s ‘Chengrong Plaza’, from what she knew, everyone in real estate was rolling in money.

Living in 1987, people couldn’t imagine how high property prices would become in China.

In her previous life, she had especially envied Xia Xiaolan because she married Wang Jianhua and became successful through marriage. Due to the Wang family’s connections, Xia Xiaolan owned multiple properties in Beijing. To her previous self who had never seen big money, one Beijing property was an astronomical figure, let alone multiple properties. At that time, if Xia Xiaolan had truly wanted to help her, selling just one property could have solved her problems. Instead, she made excuses, deliberately wanting to see her beg on her knees before tossing her scraps like a beggar… These memories surged up, making Xia Ziyu feel completely awful!

Du Chengrong was utterly speechless.

Real estate?

Someone with absolutely no business experience wanted to jump straight into real estate.

If real estate was that easy, wouldn’t everyone in Hong Kong be a millionaire?

Did she think just getting a piece of land and building some houses on it qualified as real estate?

Anyone who viewed the industry so simply wouldn’t even know what hit them when they failed.

“I’m not against you wanting to do something meaningful – having ambition is good. But if you want to do real estate and need startup capital from me, we’ll do it properly. Write me a business plan – if I see it’s feasible, I’ll invest!”

Du Chengrong not outright refusing was already giving Xia Ziyu considerable face.

Xia Ziyu persisted, “Mr. Du—”

Before she could finish, Du Chengrong’s office phone rang with an internal call from the secretary’s office:

“Mr. Du, Young Master is here to see you. Should I send him in?”

Usually, he would have just barged in.

Today the secretary specifically stopped Du Zhaohui because the Chairman had brought his fifth concubine to the office. Who knew if they were… ahem, being interrupted in the middle of something would be awkward, and he’d lose his job as secretary.

Du Chengrong had been waiting for his son anyway, so he didn’t hesitate:

“Have him wait two minutes before coming in.”

After hanging up, he gestured to Xia Ziyu, “Zhaohui has important business with me. Whatever ideas you have, first make a business plan and we’ll discuss it later. Be good, go wait in the restroom now.”

The restroom was inside the office, its door integrated into the office wall. Xia Ziyu felt nervous about meeting Du Zhaohui in private, so she obediently hid inside.

Just as she had hidden herself, Du Zhaohui entered the office.

Sniffing the lingering fragrance in the air, Du Zhaohui said with a grin:

“The secretary stopped me outside – I thought you’d brought some woman to the office. It wouldn’t matter if you had – I’m not like my stepmothers coming to catch you in the act!”

“What nonsense are you spouting? People outside say you’ve become mature and steady, but you’d better talk less in front of others – open your mouth and you’re still so disgraceful.”

Du Zhaohui didn’t mind being scolded by Du Chengrong.

He knew the person hiding was Xia Ziyu – the secretary had already told him the fifth concubine was inside.

He deliberately spoke this way. No matter how soundproof the restroom was, if Xia Ziyu wanted to hear their conversation, she still could.

He wanted Xia Ziyu to hear – even separated by a wall, it would frighten her to death.

“I’m only like this in front of you – what need is there for pretense between father and son, right?”

Du Zhaohui’s words carried deeper meaning, but Du Chengrong remained noncommittal:

“Get to the point, don’t waste words. If you’re here about that 5% shareholding, I said I’d give it to you and won’t go back on my word. No need to rush over.”

But since he was already here, there was no reason to delay.

Today or tomorrow, what difference did it make?

Du Zhaohui might be disgraceful, but he’d said one thing right – father and son didn’t need pretenses. Having said he’d give the 5% shares, Du Chengrong wouldn’t dawdle.

Du Zhaohui weighed the pros and cons. What he wanted to say next might not please the old man. As A Hua had said, it better not end up losing both ways. What was his should be secured first, so he kept quiet and waited for Du Chengrong to call someone in.

The lawyer brought the already-prepared documents.

After carefully explaining the terms to Du Zhaohui, Du Chengrong and Du Zhaohui signed and sealed them, making the 5% shares legally Du Zhaohui’s.

Du Zhaohui looked at the agreement – for this, he’d eaten dust at construction sites for half a year!

Finally winning it, he was naturally happy.

With this, Du Chengrong personally still held 46.5% of Chengrong Group’s shares, remaining the group’s largest shareholder.

Du Zhaohui’s 5% was enough to qualify him for a seat on the group’s board of directors!

Du Zhaohui’s happiness was genuine.

Du Chengrong patted his shoulder: “These are shares you won through your ability. You should be proud – even your mother, if she knew in the afterlife, would be happy for you.”

What a wonderful atmosphere, and one sentence completely ruined it all – Du Zhaohui’s face instantly darkened!
