“Who’s here to mock you? Those who want to laugh at your expense don’t need to witness it in person.”
Ji Jiangyuan truly couldn’t understand what gave Ji Ya such fearless confidence.
If Tang Hongen still harbored feelings for Ji Ya, her boldness would be understandable – with lingering affection, he wouldn’t take harsh measures regardless of her actions.
But what affection remained now?
The day Tang Hongen chose to remarry marked his complete departure from his previous marriage. Whether good or bad, none of it would carry into his current marriage.
Ji Jiangyuan understood this clearly – why couldn’t his mother see it?
Everything was destroyed.
She had destroyed it all.
Ji Ya’s complexion darkened. She should have berated Ji Jiangyuan – she had countless ways to scold without using a single vulgar word. But Ji Jiangyuan’s calm demeanor somehow frightened her, and she eventually lowered her gaze:
“George and I are divorcing too. What’s your opinion?”
“I respect your decisions, as I always have.”
Ji Ya raised an eyebrow, “I thought you quite liked George!”
“Yes, I like Uncle George, which is why I advised him to let go. He deserves better than being trapped beside you, tormented by your coldness and obsessions.”
Ji Ya raised her hand, but the slap never landed on Ji Jiangyuan’s face.
He wouldn’t stand there foolishly anymore.
That wasn’t filial piety.
It only enabled Ji Ya to become worse, as people’s constant indulgence meant her tantrums always achieved her desires, eventually becoming a fixed pattern!
Ji Ya missed Ji Jiangyuan and struck the table corner instead, wincing in pain.
What angered her more was Ji Jiangyuan’s calm expression – no longer concerned whether she was hurt.
Ji Ya fumed, then after a while, laughed strangely:
“Too bad, everyone can escape from me except you! Tang Hongen can divorce me, George can divorce me, but you’re my son! I gave Tang Hongen a chance to take you back, but he refused. He’d rather spend his energy and resources on that country woman’s baggage, raising a child with no blood relation, than accept you, his son… Jiangyuan, what can we do? Only I want you.”
Ji Jiangyuan wanted to argue, to say his father wasn’t the one who initiated the divorce – he was the one who divorced while in the labor camp, this accusation was truly unfair to his father.
He wasn’t speaking for anyone, just evaluating from an objective standpoint.
But what was the point of arguing?
You can’t wake someone pretending to sleep, nor change someone’s personality. No matter how much others explained, Ji Ya only heard what she wanted to hear.
She maliciously speculated about others.
She distorted others’ intentions.
She raged, complained, and always fought unnecessarily.
It wasn’t Tang Hongen being vindictive – even Ji Jiangyuan believed she truly needed hospitalization.
“Yes, everyone can escape from you – whether it’s my father, Uncle George, or even Uncle. They have no obligation to support you. But I have that responsibility. I can’t escape; I’m bound to you for life.”
Ji Jiangyuan followed along with Ji Ya’s words.
Just as Ji Ya’s triumphant expression emerged, Ji Jiangyuan stood up:
“…This is my responsibility, and I’ll bear it. I consent to your hospitalization. If you become unable to care for yourself, I’ll become your guardian in return.”
What?!
Ji Ya’s expression froze.
“You bastard!”
“Ji Jiangyuan, have you gone mad?”
“Tang Hongen doesn’t want you, didn’t you hear? He doesn’t want you!”
“You’re unwanted – why are you siding with him against me? You can’t consent to this!”
Ji Jiangyuan had stopped listening and left the room.
The police outside were stunned – how could someone be so irrational, not even caring about her son?
What kind of words were those for a mother to say to her child?
Didn’t she fear hurting him?
Ji Jiangyuan slammed the door shut, and two officers rushed in to control the situation.
Secretary Lai felt immense pressure: “Young Master Ji—”
“Secretary Lai, thank you for handling our family matter today. I’ll take care of the rest. I preliminarily consent to sending my mother for compulsory treatment. As for which hospital, I’ll discuss it with my uncle… I’ll also call my father to talk.”
Secretary Lai sighed in relief: “You’ll speak with the mayor directly?”
“Of course, I won’t lie about this.”
Ji Jiangyuan needed to handle not only Ji Ya’s treatment but also help coordinate her divorce from George.
Hearing Ji Jiangyuan methodically arrange everything in order, one by one.
Mrs. Wilson pursed her lips – he was indeed a fine young man.
Pity he was Ji Ya’s son.
If he were George’s child, Mrs. Wilson would certainly have urged George to win him over.
Even so, there was no need to strain relations with Ji Jiangyuan; Harold seemed to trust the young man quite a bit.
Mrs. Wilson sighed, “Child, I’m sorry you had to see such an awful situation tonight. Though I’ve never liked your mother, I’ve always liked you, and you’ve become good friends with Tina… The divorce can wait. Dealing with your mother’s loan issues and hospitalization is more important, don’t you think?”
Perhaps Mrs. Wilson was suddenly so understanding because the Wilson family would finally be rid of his mother.
Ji Jiangyuan didn’t mind:
“These matters can proceed simultaneously. I’ll request leave from school to resolve them. Uncle George and my mother’s divorce should be straightforward – I know she signed a property waiver agreement, so there shouldn’t be any property disputes.”
George felt empty inside.
Making the decision didn’t mean he wasn’t suffering.
The agreement signed during the marriage was meant to prevent Ji Ya from claiming large assets.
But now that divorce was imminent, George couldn’t leave her nothing.
“I can give her the decoration company in Hong Kong!”
Ji Jiangyuan shook his head, “Uncle George, I advise against that. My mother isn’t capable of managing a company. She lacks the ability – giving her the company would only lead to its bankruptcy.”
“You could manage it – in fact, this company would be more like a gift to you. You’re capable; I’ve seen your abilities this past year on the golf course project! We were once family, and I want to leave you something.”
George’s words softened Ji Jiangyuan’s heart.
See, his mother’s curse wasn’t true – there were still people in this world who recognized and liked him, even if they were only family members for a short time.
However, Ji Jiangyuan still shook his head:
“I know you’re facing difficulties too. I don’t want this company – I’m still exploring what field I’ll pursue in the future. But I believe a man doesn’t need inherited wealth to succeed, right? I hope you can trust in my abilities – I’ll make a good life for myself.”
