Yuri slammed the brakes!
Boom!!!
The sentinel was flung forward by the momentum, slamming into the wall!
Yuri floored it again on the bend!
“Throw the grenades! Throw the grenades!” Bai Youwei covered her ears and shouted urgently inside the car.
Shen Mo thought to himself without words — Bai Youwei was like a child on New Year’s stomping her feet and wailing as she threw firecrackers. The situation was critical; he had no time to dwell on it. The thought flashed through his mind and was gone.
He and Ada and Natasha hurled grenades backward — some landed near the sentinel, some dropped close to the gate, some rolled deep into the parking garage —
The air seemed to pause for a few seconds. A brief stillness — and then rolling booms finally erupted!
Raging fire and shockwaves came bursting outward!
A torrent of scorching heat nearly seared their backs!
The fragile van was instantly launched up to the surface, then crashed back down and rolled!
Bai Youwei was flung out of the vehicle — the world spun around her!
Her body arced through the air like a helpless projectile, the landing point beyond her control. She squeezed her eyes shut in terror — then felt a sudden weight at her back, and she fell into warm arms, caught firmly!
Bai Youwei opened her eyes to see Shen Mo’s face — and her heart melted immediately, dissolving into sweetness. A hero saving a beauty was her absolute favorite thing in the world. She would never grow tired of this sort of scene no matter how many times it happened!
Her mood so good she practically could have floated away, Bai Youwei threw her arms around the man’s neck and whimpered: “Darling, I was so scared…”
Shen Mo smiled and set her down, then asked: “Did you get hurt? Is anything hurting?”
“Here hurts, and there too…” She grabbed his hand, pressing it to her waist, then to her leg, with a pitifully aggrieved expression. “Every single part of me hurts~”
“…” Shen Mo gave a low laugh, withdrew his hand, and lightly pinched her cheek. “Looks like you’re fine.”
Bai Youwei pouted, quite unhappy. “I already said I was hurting — how can I be fine?”
Shen Mo curved the corners of his lips without replying. He scanned the surroundings, spotted the fluffy rabbit still lying in the dusty ground a few steps away, walked over and picked it up — and returned it to Bai Youwei.
Yuri, Ada, and Natasha were all unharmed as well. Though they’d each sustained a few bumps and scrapes, having escaped safely from the encirclement of several hundred creatures, such minor scratches didn’t merit a second thought.
They stood where they were, gazing into the distance at the underground parking garage entrance.
The roaring flames still burned. From time to time came muffled explosive sounds. Below had become a hellish sea of fire — every creature inside was certainly dead.
This brush with death had perhaps still been worth it…
Yet the next part of the plan gave them trouble.
Ada looked at Yuri. “According to plan, we were originally going to burn at least half the eggs.”
But now, they had no gasoline left.
Yuri’s brow furrowed; he kept his expression set and said nothing.
Natasha hesitated. “What if we use grenades…”
“No.” Yuri cut her off. “We still don’t know how many sentinels are on the upper floors. The grenades must be saved for the sentinels. Those eggs… we’ll handle them with knives. Or bullets.”
Ada felt this was wrong. “That’s four or five hundred eggs. Forget stabbing them one by one being way too slow — even using bullets, that would consume a huge amount.”
Yuri: “For now, that’s the only option…”
“I have gasoline.” Bai Youwei suddenly said.
Everyone looked at her in unison!
“Wasn’t your backpack full?!”
12 slots in the backpack — 10 had been given over to guns, ammunition, and supplies!
How could there possibly still be gasoline?
How. Could. There. Be?!
Bai Youwei pulled one canister after another out of her backpack, her eyes curving into a smile as she said:
“It is full. But I have one slot linked to a shared backpack — I specially arranged it with a friend from the residential area beforehand. They prepared a lot of gasoline… Oh, and snacks and drinks too.”
A complete reversal.
Light after darkness.
Everyone let out a collective breath of relief.
Ada was beside himself with excitement, and blurted out: “Youwei — I love you to death!!!”
Shen Mo: “…”
Ada quickly laughed and corrected himself: “No, no — I meant, Youwei, you’re incredible!”
