In fact, Yuri had no proof that Bai Youwei had acted deliberately.
The first time in the parking garage — perhaps the girl was simply careless. The second time with the claw machine — maybe she was just curious. The third time, when she blew up the elevator without consulting anyone — that could also be explained as the girl wanting to prove herself.
In other words: if you had the will, any action could be given a reasonable explanation.
But that being the case……
He also had no way of finding out why the score had climbed so high.
Yuri had originally assumed Bai Youwei had uncovered some secret behind the system and had therefore been sabotaging their approach at every turn — otherwise, he couldn’t see why she would repeatedly stir things up for no reason.
“By the way, how many dungeons do we have left?” Bai Youwei suddenly asked.
Yuri blinked, then said, “Around twenty or thirty. I’ll check at the service station later.”
“Are the remaining dungeons dangerous?” she asked again.
“Not terribly. Most dungeons have strategies you can purchase,” Yuri explained. “For example — this Queen’s Nest run — the information about the eggs and the Guards was something we traded points from other squads to get.”
“I see~” Bai Youwei nodded. “So a dungeon that has a strategy is a dungeon someone has already cleared. If others could clear it, then you all certainly won’t have any trouble.”
She narrowed her eyes and gave a small smile. “It sounds like we’ll be leaving this place very soon~”
A 999-point record would never be broken by anyone. Once the remaining dungeons were cleared, they could leave the Livestream World!
Everyone at the dinner table felt a lift of spirits.
The dungeon record had been a stone pressing down on all of their backs. Now that the burden was lifted, the relief was overwhelming.
After dinner, they talked for a while longer, agreeing to collect the strategies for the remaining dungeons first before mapping out a schedule.
Bai Youwei had no reason to worry about any of that — she retreated to her room early to do a face mask.
……
By the time Shen Mo came back, Bai Youwei was already washed clean and lying in bed.
She had changed into a thin nightgown, her soft hair fanned out loose around her, her pale little toes peeking out from under the blanket and bobbing idly against the edge of the mattress while she hummed a melody she had no name for.
Shen Mo came closer and noticed she was playing a mobile game, her fingers flying across the screen to a cacophony of battle sound effects.
He sat down on the edge of the bed, raised one arm, and gently drew her into his embrace.
He watched one match play out in silence before speaking. “Why did you lie to Yuri just now?”
Bai Youwei gave a slight start and turned to look at him.
Shen Mo wore a faint smile at the corner of his mouth. His fingertip grazed her cheek lightly, then swept a strand of hair aside and tucked it behind her ear — the very picture of composed ease.
Bai Youwei thought it over, set her phone down, and asked him earnestly, “Honey, you’re quite deflating to a person’s confidence — was my acting not convincing enough, or did I give something away somewhere?”
Shen Mo laughed under his breath. “…Instinct, I suppose.”
“Instinct?” Bai Youwei widened her eyes. “So — that’s just completely unreasonable.”
“Mm.” Shen Mo smiled and nodded. “You could think of it that way.”
Because it was instinct, he didn’t need to present facts or arguments. Saying you were deceiving someone meant you were deceiving someone.
Bai Youwei gave a delicate huff and reached out to pinch the flesh at his waist.
Solid as a wall — she couldn’t get a grip. She changed tactics and went for his armpit instead.
Shen Mo flipped over and pinned her down, catching both of those mischievous hands, and asked with an amused look, “Tell me — why did you want to hide it?”
Bai Youwei lifted an eyebrow. A smile curved at the corner of her mouth. She replied in a deliberate, leisurely way, “I couldn’t exactly help it. If I admitted it, they’d definitely ask me why the score went up. If I didn’t say, I’d hurt my teammates’ feelings — but if I did say……”
She narrowed her eyes, her pupils glittering like bright black gems, her voice soft and light. “Would the secret behind the score increases get leaked? If it did, our record might lose its value… and our advantage would disappear.”
Shen Mo listened and fell into thought. “Your reasoning does have some validity……”
She shifted beneath him, soft and languid. “Honey, this position we’re in… are we just going to talk?”
