Looking at her like this, Ada felt a sourness in his heart. He urged her:
“Jason is clearly stringing you along on purpose. He’s never going to avenge Yuri. Natasha — our squad still has one open slot. You can disband your squad and join us!”
He clenched his fists, dropping his voice: “Forget revenge. Let him stay trapped here — that’s the greatest punishment you could ever give him.”
Natasha’s heart ached.
She understood what Ada meant, and she knew he was saying it for her sake. In the competitive district, lives had always been cheap. People met for a few months and then perished out of nowhere — friendships, bonds, none of it mattered. Everyone had just one goal, a single solitary goal: to leave this place.
The only person who still remembered Yuri was probably her, alone.
“You all just focus on clearing your dungeons — don’t worry about me.” Natasha pulled the corner of her mouth into a warm smile. “With me here, Jason still has a sliver of hope and won’t bother you. If I disbanded the squad right now, he’d have nothing left to lose — there’s no telling what he’d do……”
Ada’s brow furrowed deeply at that. “His crew really is unhinged…… but with all the squads protecting us now, he won’t get the chance.”
“It’s easy to dodge an open attack — a hidden one is harder to guard against,” Natasha said evenly. “Besides, those squads are only protecting your captain, aren’t they?”
As long as the captain lived, the squad wouldn’t disband — and the record wouldn’t disappear.
So if Jason truly decided to go down in flames and take everyone with him, Ada, Bai Youwei, and Shen Mo would still be in danger.
Ada frowned and turned it over in his mind. “This can’t go on indefinitely. Being around them puts you in too much danger — Jason is obviously buying time until the one-month mark, planning to strip you of the captain title then…… “
“I know.” Natasha nodded calmly.
“You know and you’re still……” Ada was both angry and helpless. “What are you actually thinking? You really plan to drag this out until just before the month is up and then disband? Jason won’t let you go easily! And on our end — it’ll only be a matter of days before we clear all the dungeons. Natasha, come with us!”
Natasha pressed her lips together and said nothing.
Ada opened his mouth to try again: “Natasha……”
A cold laugh suddenly drifted in from outside the door.
Ada went still.
He caught himself, and immediately spun around — his hand going for his gun at the same time!
But he was half a second too late! The hospital room door was shoved open with force, knocking the weapon from his hand! In the same instant, an icy barrel pressed against his forehead!
Natasha’s pupils contracted sharply. She held her breath. “Jason!”
As a member of the same squad, Jason had no need to register a visit! But at this hour, he should have been inside a dungeon with the others! Why was he here at the hospital?!
A wave of cold dread rose through Natasha’s chest.
He planned this.
He knew Ada had been trying to see her — so he waited here on purpose!
Jason’s tall, imposing frame blocked the entire doorway, his lips curled in a frigid smile. The gun in his hand pressed against Ada’s head.
Ada’s entire body went rigid.
“So you knew all along……” Jason’s gaze drifted slowly to Natasha. “You were buying time until just before the month was up, and then kick me out? You’ve got real nerve — I underestimated you, Natasha.”
Natasha’s hand moved without a sound to the call button, doing everything she could to stay composed.
“Jason — let him go. If you don’t, the moment the hospital’s puppet security guards arrive, you’ll be arrested and imprisoned.”
“Ha……” Jason laughed. “You think that’s a threat? Unable to leave this place, and imprisoned — what’s the difference?”
He narrowed his eyes slightly, like a venomous snake scrutinizing Ada before him. “Since I’m not getting out anyway — might as well take someone down to hell with me. That works too.”
Ada gritted his teeth, furious at himself for not staying more alert!
“Let him go, Jason.” Natasha’s voice remained steady. Only the very tip of it carried a tremor, barely perceptible. “Your goal is the squad’s record. There’s no reason to make enemies of People’s Commotion squad.”
Jason’s gaze, cold and fixed, rested on the barrel of the gun. “Natasha — you know what to do.”
