Bai Youwei and Pan Xiaoxin stared at the door without speaking.
The air seemed to freeze.
Stifling, humid.
The enclosed space made the atmosphere even more oppressive, pressing down so they couldn’t breathe.
Bai Youwei sat quietly in her wheelchair. The hot, humid environment made her sweat continuously—her palms sticky, her back damp, sweat flowing down her cheeks. She held her breath, listening to the sound of tearing and chewing flesh from just beyond the wall…
The sound gradually grew louder, as if it might penetrate the fleshy wall at any moment.
The man under the counter looked worse and worse. He stared tensely at where the sound came from, breathing heavily and uncontrollably, his chest heaving violently, sweat pouring like rain.
“It won’t work…” His lips turned pale, murmuring, “Need to get rid of it… you, you hurry and get rid of it! Otherwise more and more will come! They’ll attract the snake! They’ll bring the snake here!”
Bai Youwei looked at him with displeasure, saying coldly, “You shut up!”
The man actually began crying in fear, nose and tears flowing together. “If they chew through the wall, we’re finished! I’m begging you, begging you… hurry and get rid of those monsters! Otherwise we’ll all die here!!!”
Teacher Cheng gripped his cane tightly. “You stay here… don’t make noise. I’ll handle it.”
Bai Youwei looked at Pan Xiaoxin beside her. “Kid, do you have anything useful in your backpack?”
Pan Xiaoxin was stunned, quickly removing his backpack and turning it upside down, dumping out a pile of miscellaneous items—water bottle, lunch box, kitchen knife, hammer, hemp rope… and even a brick. He’d brought almost everything that might be useful in daily life.
Bai Youwei picked through them, taking the hammer for herself and having Pan Xiaoxin take the kitchen knife.
“You go to Teacher Cheng’s right, I’ll be on the left.” Bai Youwei instructed. “When Teacher Cheng opens the door, as long as anything comes in, we’ll beat it to death. Understand?”
Pan Xiaoxin pressed his lips together and nervously nodded.
Bai Youwei smiled and praised him. “Not bad—not crying.”
Pan Xiaoxin felt a bit embarrassed by the praise, his eyes unconsciously glancing at the canvas bag hanging on the wheelchair.
“Want to see my items?” Bai Youwei smiled, lightly patting the bulging bag. “Now’s not the time yet.”
She had no intention of saying more, telling Cheng Weicai, “Teacher Cheng, open the door.”
Cheng Weicai nodded, tightening his grip on the cane, slowly pulling the door open—
Bang!
The door had barely opened a crack when the blood-red monster outside lunged forward! Squealing and squawking as it tried to squeeze in!
Cheng Weicai hastily held the door shut!
A round, bulbous head was caught, engorged with blood red!
Its short, thin limbs still struggling!
It couldn’t make sounds—caught in the door, it waved its claws wildly. The friction between flesh and flesh produced a hair-raising squeaking sound!
Teacher Cheng used his cane to poke at its head, trying to push it out, but that head was just too thin and fragile—the slightest force punctured it! Blood and flesh instantly dissolved, sticking everywhere!
A fishy stench hit them full force—
Bai Youwei retched, nearly actually vomiting!
Bang bang!
The door suddenly took more impacts!
Cheng Weicai couldn’t stop it in time—the door was knocked more than halfway open!
Two blood-red skinned monsters crawled into the kitchen, opening their mouths full of saw-like teeth, lunging at them like rabid dogs!
Cheng Weicai used his cane to intercept one.
The other crawled up the ceiling, jumping down along the meat-tumor covered fluorescent light tube! Landing directly on Bai Youwei’s legs!
Bai Youwei’s expression changed dramatically.
The skinned monster crouched on her legs, lifting its plump, bright red head. Its mouth full of saw teeth opened, and the rich fishy stench made her almost unable to open her eyes!
She gritted her teeth and raised the hammer in her hand. Before she could strike down, she heard a “crack”!
The big head in front of her split open, viscous blood instantly splattering half her skirt—
