One year later.
January 3, 2015.
Jingzhou City, Tenda Group’s new headquarters.
Five years ago, Tenda Group was established in Jingzhou City. No one could have imagined that this small gaming company would develop into a world-renowned giant corporation in just five short years!
Nor would anyone have imagined that the entire Jingzhou City would undergo rapid development due to Tenda Group’s exponential growth, with landmark buildings springing up throughout the city.
Whether it was the Thrilling Inn, the amusement park, the esports base, or the ubiquitous Slackin’ Internet Cafés and Tuoguan Fitness centers—landmarks both large and small were all connected to Tenda Group, completely transforming the face of Jingzhou City!
Among these, the most spectacular was Tenda Group’s new headquarters building!
When airplanes circled above Jingzhou, this massive structure was clearly visible from the sky.
It resembled a gigantic Eight Trigrams formation, with the main building in the center shaped like an enormous Taiji symbol, surrounded by eight subsidiary buildings that together formed the shape of the Eight Trigrams.
Shortly after this headquarters building was officially put into use, many media outlets came to interview and tour the premises. Everyone was shocked by the unique creativity embodied in this headquarters building.
It was regarded as a profound manifestation of Mr. Pei’s architectural design philosophy, cultural concepts, and the Tenda spirit.
At this moment, at the entrance of the Tenda headquarters building, a new employee was staring somewhat bewilderedly at the enormous, majestic structure before him, deeply impressed by its grandeur.
Soon, staff members came forward to greet and guide him through the onboarding process.
According to the recruitment plan previously established by Mr. Pei, Tenda held four recruitment exams annually, in February, May, August, and November.
The recruitment exams in February and August were for special talents, while those in May and November were for regular talents. Both fresh graduates and experienced professionals could freely apply for these exams!
For employed candidates, Tenda always provided ample time. After the lengthy written tests and interviews concluded in November, they were given sufficient time to properly hand over their work at their original companies before officially joining Tenda.
This new employee had just arranged the handover of work at his previous company and had chosen to officially start work at Tenda Group after the New Year’s holiday.
After being led into Tenda Group headquarters by the staff member responsible for guiding him, the new employee felt like he had entered a grand garden, looking around curiously, finding everything both strange and fascinating.
The staff member in charge of guiding him was clearly accustomed to this reaction. For each new employee’s onboarding, they would act as tour guides, introducing the structure of the entire Tenda headquarters building and the purpose of each section.
On one hand, this was to help them understand the building’s layout and better adapt to working there; on the other hand, it was also an opportunity to initially convey Tenda Group’s work philosophy and assist the Human Resources department in completing the new employee’s ideological transformation.
“The eight subsidiary buildings surround the main building. They also serve as the eight entrances to the building, and we can directly reach the entertainment area through this building.”
“These eight buildings correspond to eight different directions, and also correspond to eight different trigrams. They mainly provide living support for employees.”
“The ground floors of these eight subsidiary buildings handle visitor sign-ins, meetings, and other related matters. The middle levels are employee cafeterias, with the eight buildings representing different cuisines to satisfy employees’ various tastes. If you want to eat a particular type of cuisine, you just need to go to the corresponding subsidiary building.”
“The upper portions of these subsidiary buildings are all employee dormitories. The dormitories are managed like hotels, suitable for both short and long-term stays. However, in principle, the company does not allow employees to permanently reside in the company. For new employees, the company will arrange accommodations at Sloth Apartments, which have better living conditions than here.”
“These rooms in the subsidiary buildings are mainly for employees who need them urgently or for visiting guests.”
“The four entrances to the entertainment area are conveniently located at transportation hubs, making access easier from one side. So we’ll also enter through the entertainment area first, and I’ll introduce you to the entertainment facilities.”
“If you drive to the company in the future, you can also experience the maze in the parking lot below. I won’t take you there today—that maze is only interesting if you navigate it yourself.”
As the staff member explained, the new employee’s expression was both confused and delighted.
Although he had heard that Tenda Group’s headquarters building was different from other companies, after the staff member’s introduction, he realized that Tenda Group was thinking about how to innovate at every moment.
Just the eight subsidiary buildings around the perimeter had so many creative elements—not only offering eight major cuisine styles but also providing hotel accommodations that could be freely occupied at any time.
Tenda Group’s business portfolio included flagship restaurant chains like Nameless Restaurant and Slackin’ Takeout, so naturally, the food at the group headquarters would be excellent. Otherwise, wouldn’t they be undermining their own brand?
The new employee remarked with feeling, “Working here with such good food and drink every day, I’m afraid I’ll gain weight.”
The staff member chuckled, “Gain weight? You’re overthinking it. When you joined, Tuoguan Fitness membership cards and fitness quotas were already arranged for you. These fitness quotas can’t be avoided—they’re as important as work tasks. They’ll train you until you’re exhausted.”
“Not to mention the regularly scheduled suffering trips and Thrilling Inn adventures. Your special training might last three months, with the first month dedicated to indoor facility training for physical fitness and mental fortitude training at the Thrilling Inn. The following two months will be at Tenda Group’s special training points located throughout the country—possibly on uninhabited islands or in deep mountains and forests—for a two-month wilderness survival training.”
“If you can still gain weight after all this training, I can only say one thing—you have a unique gift.”
The new employee was shocked. Goodness, being a Tenda employee was truly not easy!
He had previously heard that Tenda Group arranged suffering trips for employees, but he thought they were mainly for managers and key employees. How had it now been extended to new employees as well?
Just thinking about being arranged by the suffering trip supervisor—whom everyone called “Executioner Bao”—made this new employee’s liver ache.
After exiting the subsidiary building entrance, the staff member led him to scan a code nearby, and they each received a self-balancing scooter.
“The headquarters is very large and takes time to walk through. Although our company encourages employees to walk more, if you have urgent tasks and are worried about wasting time, you can choose a self-balancing scooter.”
“These scooters’ docking stations are connected to an intelligent network, managed by the AEEIS artificial intelligence system. When not in use, these scooters automatically go to nearby docking stations to charge. Scooters from different stations can also be redistributed, ensuring they meet daily needs and preventing situations where all scooters accumulate in one place!”
“So if you see a line of unmanned scooters moving from one docking station to another, don’t be surprised.”
“These scooters are designed to meet needs most of the time. If you really find there aren’t enough scooters, you can also choose the small sightseeing cars inside the building for public transportation.”
“If you find that all vehicles in the building are insufficient, it may be due to special circumstances such as a large celebration. In this case, you can file a report to your supervisor and then work from home or simply take time off. It’s written in the company policies that under any circumstances, if employees’ working conditions are not fully satisfied, employees can refuse to work.”
The new employee exclaimed, “Wow,” thinking Tenda Group was truly willful.
If there were too many people at the company, they would tell employees to hurry home and rest, not to come to the company and crowd the place, causing trouble for the company.
This kind of thing could probably only happen at Tenda Group.
This new employee had never used a self-balancing scooter before, but they weren’t difficult to use. With two handles to grip, he quickly adapted and was able to ride smoothly.
Leaving the subsidiary building entrance, the two rode their scooters across the plaza and entered the main building shaped like a Taiji symbol.
The large open area between the main building and subsidiary buildings was mainly designed as a plaza and landscaped garden. There were many statues of Tenda game characters and scenes from the games.
Many first-time employees or visitors would take photos with statues of their favorite game characters. Just the arrangements in the plaza and landscaped garden were enough to showcase Tenda Group’s rich cultural foundation.
Upon entering the headquarters building, the new employee’s first impression was one of spaciousness and brightness, like entering a large shopping mall.
The elevator areas were located at the two “fish eyes” of the Taiji symbol, but the staff member didn’t take him to the elevators first. Instead, they went to the central atrium.
If viewed from above, Tenda Group’s main headquarters building looked like a giant Taiji symbol. The boundary line where yin and yang merged had an obvious separation, like a rift running from bottom to top, allowing views of different floors and increasing natural light, making the interior of the building more brightly lit!
At the very center of the atrium in the middle of the entire Taiji symbol was a huge scenic waterfall that divided the entire floor.
The waterfall’s rushing waters flowed downward, forming a massive pool at the bottom level. Near the pool, one could hear the roaring sound of the waterfall, as if immersed in beautiful nature.
Of course, there were sound insulation measures around the waterfall to prevent these sounds from disturbing employees working or relaxing in the work or entertainment areas!
