After the introduction of the artificial intelligence technology, it was Jiang Yuan’s turn to introduce the new phone.
He held three OTTO G1 phone prototypes in his hand and distributed them to the department heads present for them to pass around.
Chang You looked at the phone with mixed feelings.
After all, this phone was developed before he stepped down from OTTO Technology. Now that the finished product was out, he was no longer in charge of the phone business, which left him feeling somewhat regretful.
However, thinking about how his current work was also quite good—the smart fitness clothes rack project was going smoothly and was quite interesting—Chang You felt that perhaps this was not a bad arrangement either.
Jiang Yuan introduced: “This is the G1 phone prototype. Mass production has already begun, and we expect to hold a launch event next month.”
“The timing is tight, but from what I know, other manufacturers are also developing full-screen phones with pop-up cameras. We must act quickly to seize the initiative.”
“The design has already been finalized, and there’s not much room for changes. The main purpose of showing it to the gaming department is to facilitate special optimizations and adaptations of Tenda’s mobile games to match this phone’s features.”
“As everyone can see, this phone continues to use the previous large battery design, so its weight remains substantial—still a must-have for martial artists. The difference is that we’ve employed many new supply chain technologies, with the most visually striking being this full-screen design enabled by the pop-up camera.”
“The two shoulder buttons on the phone are designed specifically for gaming. Although the right shoulder button is integrated with the camera, the button press mechanism and the camera pop-up are two different structures that won’t affect each other’s lifespan.”
“In normal state, both shoulder buttons will have a slight protrusion, similar to the camera on the back of the phone. Our custom phone cases will leave some space around the shoulder buttons rather than fitting completely flush, ensuring the player’s gaming experience while minimizing impact on portability.”
“Additionally, our colleagues responsible for Otto OS have created a dedicated gaming space for the G1. On one hand, it optimizes game memory usage for better gaming experience and reduces pop-up interruptions during games. On the other hand, it allows players to freely map the two shoulder buttons to keys in mobile games.”
“However, for Tenda’s official mobile games, it would be best if we provide an official configuration that automatically activates when detecting the G1 model. This would provide the optimal experience.”
“Furthermore, to increase the utility of the two shoulder buttons in normal use, we’ve assigned them other functions. The left shoulder button integrates the AEEIS artificial intelligence assistant call-up function; long-pressing it allows direct conversation with AEEIS. The right shoulder button inherits the camera function; long-pressing and releasing it will automatically pop up the camera and enter photo mode.”
“Previously, calling up AEEIS required using the power button, and entering photo mode required tapping an icon on the screen. The current approach represents some minor optimizations.”
“Of course, we’ve fully considered the possibility of accidental touches, so we’ve implemented a long-press approach and restricted these functions on certain pages. Users can also choose the functions of these two buttons in the settings…”
Jiang Yuan briefly introduced the new features of the G1 phone.
Simply put, the G1 phone was a phone with very obvious advantages and disadvantages. Its advantages included high aesthetics, good gaming performance, and the two shoulder buttons that greatly enhanced the gaming experience.
The original advantages of the OTTO E1 phone, such as Tenda’s various VIP services, large battery, flagship chipset, and Otto OS system, had also been largely inherited.
However, this phone’s shortcomings were also very obvious, mainly due to compromises made to adopt the new full-screen technology. These included slightly reduced call quality, temporarily lacking mature under-screen fingerprint technology (so the fingerprint module was placed on the side), no space for dual speakers and a headphone jack, and high development costs leading to a high retail price, among others.
But these were all issues anticipated during the phone’s design phase. With current technological levels, gains came with sacrifices.
Wang Xiaobin was responsible for optimizing current Tenda mobile games for the G1 phone, including mobile versions of “Sea Fortress,” “Lonely Desert Highway,” and GOG, all of which needed specialized optimization for the G1 phone.
He couldn’t put the G1 phone down, as most people would find this aggressive full-screen design quite stunning when seeing it for the first time.
Wang Xiaobin and Jiang Yuan briefly discussed the adaptation details for several mobile games, especially the default adaptation schemes for FPS games and racing games.
With less than a month until the phone launch event, there was still opportunity for further optimization.
After all content was covered, the department heads began to chat casually, exchanging updates on their respective departments and seeing if there were ways they could help each other.
Jiang Yuan said to Chang You, “Mr. Chang, for the new phone launch event… how should we arrange it? Should you still go up and present?”
His expression showed some hesitation.
For the previous E1 phone launch, Chang You had been the main presenter, and the effect was excellent. That extended tongue twister even sparked a wave of imitations online, with some people feeling that Chang You’s presentation was even more entertaining than a solo comic dialogue performance.
But Jiang Yuan was self-aware and felt he didn’t have oratory skills like Chang You’s.
The launch event was the most crucial part before a phone’s release. If the phone itself was well-made, but Jiang Yuan couldn’t present it effectively, causing the phone’s popularity and sales to be affected, wouldn’t that be letting the team down?
Therefore, Jiang Yuan hoped to have Chang You as the main presenter.
Chang You shook his head: “You’re now the head of OTTO Technology, so of course you should be the one presenting!”
“Actually, when I held the E1 phone launch previously, that PowerPoint was completely prepared under Mr. Pei’s guidance. The excellent on-site effect was entirely Mr. Pei’s achievement.”
“So, there’s no need to underestimate yourself. How can you assume you can’t do it before even trying?”
“If you really lack confidence, go consult Mr. Pei. Mr. Pei will definitely provide a perfect arrangement.”
After hearing Chang You’s words, although Jiang Yuan still felt somewhat insecure, his confidence had greatly increased.
“Alright, Mr. Chang. Then I’ll find some time at the end of this month to consult Mr. Pei about the specifics of the phone launch event.”
……
……
April 6th, Friday.
“Whew, finally finished!”
Qiao Liang removed his headphones and looked at the completed edited video file that was rendering and exporting, breathing a long sigh of relief.
The new episode of “Trash Game Roast” had been completed. This episode mainly roasted the once “national gaming disgrace” “Mission and Choice,” with content essentially digging up and reintroducing the old scandals surrounding “Mission and Choice.”
To be honest, Qiao Liang wasn’t 100% satisfied with this episode.
Since “Mission and Choice” was a game so terrible that it had left a thousand-year stench in the history of domestic games, numerous video content creators and columnists had already verbally and textually attacked it. The content of these criticisms was varied, and basically every possible angle for criticism had already been explored.
If there were other content available, Qiao Liang definitely wouldn’t want to make a video about this garbage game.
But there was no choice; there hadn’t been any reliable games recently, so he could only reluctantly make do and produce a casual episode.
Of course, while he called it a casual video, Qiao Liang still maintained his consistent roasting style. Before making the video, he had also conscientiously played this game with its terrible graphics and endless bugs for a long time. The resulting video could be said to be above standard.
Not outstanding, but not poor either.
Previous videos roasting “Mission and Choice” were mostly from the perspective of a few years ago, when Tenda Games hadn’t yet emerged, and the domestic game industry hadn’t improved as rapidly as it has now. The emotional tone was inevitably somewhat negative and pessimistic.
Now, with excellent domestic games like “Turn Back to Shore” and “Struggle” appearing, Qiao Liang’s retrospective look at “Mission and Choice” naturally allowed him to approach it with a more teasing attitude.
This emotional shift also gave Qiao Liang’s “rehashing of old topics” some special significance.
“However, the final segment of the video still feels like it’s missing something.”
“All the games I listed are Tenda’s works. Saying things like ‘domestic single-player games have fully revived, and the former national gaming disgrace can be laughed off’ seems a bit forced.”
“After all, basically all the examples I gave are from Tenda, which doesn’t prove that ‘domestic single-player games have fully revived,’ but only that Tenda Games is impressive and Mr. Pei is impressive. It has nothing to do with other domestic game manufacturers.”
