Chapter 75: Waiting

“Oh my, your tooth fell out?” Binglu blinked in surprise, then giggled. “It’s fine, that saves trouble. Open your mouth and let me see—was it an upper tooth or a lower tooth that fell out? I’ll tell you, if an upper tooth falls out, you have to throw it under the bed, but if a lower tooth falls out, you have to throw it on the roof!”

The little novice continued crying to himself: “Senior brother was right, I shouldn’t have randomly accepted things from benefactors, especially female benefactors—”

Binglu kept laughing: “Your speech has a lisp now, and you’re still crying—”

Suddenly feeling someone pat her shoulder, she immediately turned around to see a tall young man standing behind her. She became instantly annoyed, placing one hand on her hip and scolding: “Don’t you know proper manners? Don’t you know that men and women shouldn’t have physical contact?”

“Miss, our master has questions for you.” Long Ying, Princess Zhenzhen’s guard, said expressionlessly.

He thought his attitude was already quite good, but Binglu wasn’t having any of it. She sneered: “Your master isn’t my master—just because she wants to ask questions doesn’t mean she can—hey, let go! Bastard, let go!”

Binglu was lifted by her collar and carried to a nearby tree. Furious, she raised her leg and kicked directly at Long Ying’s vital parts.

Long Ying: “…” What to do if it hurts so much?

The poor princess’s guard couldn’t lose face in public, so he had to endure it. His face turned green as he gritted his teeth and said: “Master, I’ve brought the person.”

“Let me go!” Binglu shouted angrily.

Long Ying released his grip with a green face, and Binglu fell directly to the ground.

Hearing her cry of pain, Long Ying crossed his arms over his chest, secretly pleased.

Little brat, see if I don’t make you fall hard!

Binglu, who would rather break rocks on her chest when facing the Third Young Master of the Li residence, had never suffered such humiliation in her life. She immediately did a carroll to stand up and reached out to claw at Long Ying’s face.

Long Ying was much taller than her, so she had to jump while clawing, not forgetting to curse: “Bastard, shameless! Just because you see this young lady is beautiful, you want to assault her? Help! Someone is molesting me in broad daylight! Great monks of Dafu Temple, save me!”

The little novice covered his mouth and forgot to cry. Princess Zhenzhen was even more dumbstruck.

Was this the guest Master Wumei was seeing today?

What about the saying that Buddhist monks don’t lie? Master Jingxi must have deceived her—she didn’t believe it!

As a princess’s guard, Long Ying had always been steady and never thought to stoop to the level of a little maid. But hearing the little maid’s nonsensical words, he was completely bewildered and reached out to cover her babbling mouth.

Just then, two monks emerged from the side gate, each holding a broom raised high, coldly shouting: “Sacred Buddhist ground! Scoundrel, stop your actions immediately!”

“Mmm mmm mmm—” Though her mouth was blocked, Binglu persistently continued to struggle.

Surrounded by two sweeping monks holding large brooms, Long Ying’s face turned iron blue.

He wanted to kill someone to silence them!

“Ridiculous! Everyone, stop this instant!” Princess Zhenzhen finally came to her senses, so angry that her flower-like, beautiful face turned completely red.

Long Ying obeyed Princess Zhenzhen’s every command and immediately released his hand upon hearing her words.

Only then did Binglu see Princess Zhenzhen’s appearance clearly, saying in a daze: “Young lady, you’re so beautiful!”

Princess Zhenzhen: “…” Well, though this little maid was crude and rude, she had good taste.

“This is just a misunderstanding. Master’s, please withdraw.”

“So it’s you.” The two sweeping monks recognized Princess Zhenzhen, put down their brooms, placed their palms together in salute, then picked up their brooms and took their leave.

As one of them passed by the little novice, he didn’t forget to drag the little novice away.

Princess Zhenzhen’s gaze returned to Binglu. She lifted her chin and asked with restraint: “What is your master’s status?”

A little maid certainly wouldn’t be Master Wumei’s guest—presumably the master was currently seeing her mistress.

Looking across the capital, which noble lady would be worthy of the master’s audience?

Though Binglu had a fierce and impatient temperament, she could now see that the questioning girl had extraordinary origins. But as any random person asking about her young lady’s background, as a qualified head maid, she naturally couldn’t tell.

The little maid maintained a dazed expression, playing dumb: “This is the first time in my life I’ve seen such a beauty as you, young lady. I’m simply stunned by your beauty—”

As her words fell, she rolled her eyes back and softly collapsed.

Long Ying, standing beside Binglu, extended two fingers to support her back to prevent her from falling, saying indignantly: “Your Highness, this little girl is faking unconsciousness!”

Princess Zhenzhen’s expression turned cold as she glanced at Long Ying: “Are you saying this princess can’t stun people with her beauty?”

Long Ying: “…” Why were all women like this? He had seen through the mortal world—he wondered if Dafu Temple would take him in?

“Enough, put this little maid aside and let’s wait and see.” Princess Zhenzhen felt she needn’t tangle with a little maid. She had a palace maid spread a soft blanket on the bluestone under the tree and sat down leisurely.

It was already this time—presumably, that person would come out soon, as the master wouldn’t provide meals.

Princess Zhenzhen had timed her visit to Shuying Temple because she was bored in the palace and wanted to visit the temple fair. But having grown curious about Master Wumei’s guest, she simply decided not to browse the fair and wait it out.

Two quarters of an hour passed, and Binglu couldn’t keep up the act. She groaned and “woke up.”

Seeing that the woman was no longer looking at her, the little maid secretly sighed in relief. Her eyes rolled around, and she saw the snacks scattered on the ground, immediately feeling heartbroken.

It was all because of this damned scoundrel—he had ruined all the treats she had painstakingly bought for her young lady!

“Hmph!” Binglu glared at Long Ying, who stood motionless under the tree, and pulled out an oil paper package from her bosom.

This cold snort immediately drew the attention of Princess Zhenzhen and the others.

They saw the little maid wipe her hands with a handkerchief, then carefully unwrap the oil paper package, revealing a piece of richly colored and fragrant sauced beef.

Binglu tore off a piece of beef and began eating by herself.

The little maid ate with such relish that Princess Zhenzhen suddenly felt her stomach was empty and quite uncomfortable.

She looked up at her palace maid.

The palace maid understood and walked over, looking down condescendingly: “This is sacred Buddhist ground. How can you eat meat here?”

Binglu quietly curled her lips.

What a busybody!

She thrust the oil paper package toward the palace maid and explained: “Sister, look carefully—this is vegetarian beef, made from tofu.”

The palace maid had nothing more to say and silently walked back.

Princess Zhenzhen couldn’t bring herself to snatch food from a strange maid’s hands, but being hungry while watching someone eat meat so heartily in front of her was truly uncomfortable. She was even more annoyed with that unidentified guest at Shuying Temple.

How infuriating! The master was providing meals!

“Master, should we go to the temple fair for some food first?” the palace maid suggested.

What happened to browsing the temple fair and eating folk delicacies? The princess was deceiving people!

“No, we’ll wait right here!” Princess Zhenzhen’s stubborn streak emerged.

What if they went to eat, and that person slipped away?

“Then this servant will go buy some—”

“Not allowed!”

Now no one dared speak anymore.

Another hour passed. Binglu had eaten and drunk her fill and even leaned against the big tree for a nap.

Princess Zhenzhen was dizzy with hunger and nearly couldn’t hold on when she finally saw a young lady in a blue shirt and white skirt walking gracefully toward them.
