Chapter 125: Man-Monkey

Yun Yao ultimately chose a “Monkey” class game.

The mask worn by the “Zodiac” at the door wasn’t a monkey at all, but a rotting baboon.

“How about it, Qi Xia? Dare to try?” Yun Yao asked, standing at the entrance.

“I try?” Qi Xia glanced at the baboon, then looked at Yun Yao. “I’m actually quite curious about the meaning of ‘Strong Luck.’ Why don’t you demonstrate it for me?”

“You’ve got it wrong.” Yun Yao shook her head helplessly. “I already said the purpose of this team formation is to assess your abilities to facilitate future game type assignments. How did it turn into you testing me?”

The three of them didn’t quite know how to respond to her. It seemed this idol was still somewhat willful.

“So you’re not going to intervene at all?” Qi Xia asked.

“It’s just a ‘Man-Monkey.’ Most are intelligence or dexterity based. Can this really stump you?” Yun Yao asked with a smile. “If you’re willing, you can also directly bet your life with them.”

“Bet our lives?” Qiao Jiajin was startled. “You can bet lives here?”

Qi Xia knew that betting his life with the other party right now was absolutely not a good idea. He didn’t understand the “Monkey’s” routine, and he hadn’t obtained an “echo” either. If he bet his life and failed at this moment, he would lose all the information he knew.

Thinking of this, Qi Xia sighed helplessly, walked to the baboon’s side, and asked, “‘Man-Monkey,’ is it?”

“That’s right.” The Man-Monkey nodded. “Are you going to participate in my game?”

“What are the rules?” Qi Xia asked.

“We take turns taking ‘Dao’ out of the boxes. The person who takes the last ‘Dao’ wins, and the winner can obtain all the ‘Dao’ on the table.” The Man-Monkey sounded quite young, like a teenager. He explained the rules very clearly.

Qi Xia gently stroked his chin and asked, “What about the ‘ticket’?”

“The ‘ticket’ is the ‘Dao in the box.’ It depends on how many you want to put in. I’ll put in more than you, never less.”

“Wow… This is a ‘random ticket’ game.” Yun Yao looked very happy. “If we can win, we’ll really profit.”

“My goodness, high stakes!” Qiao Jiajin shouted, turning back to excitedly yell at Yun Yao, “Beautiful lady! Quickly take out a thousand or eighteen hundred ‘Dao’! If the liar wins this time, we can go straight home!”

“Where would I have that many?” Yun Yao said irritably. “All I have on me is one small bag. Where am I supposed to produce a thousand or eighteen hundred ‘Dao’ from?”

“It’s impossible for anyone in this godforsaken place to carry a thousand or eight hundred ‘Dao’ without being discovered by the ‘Extreme Path’…” Qi Xia muttered, then looked up at the Man-Monkey. “Monkey, how many do you have left in total?”

“I…” The Man-Monkey paused slightly. “I can’t say that.”

“Are you afraid I’ll bet everything you have?” Qi Xia said.

“No matter what your intention is, I won’t reveal my ‘Dao.'”

“Interesting.” Qi Xia nodded. “Then let’s begin.”

The four of them all entered the room, but since this was after all a “human” level mini-game, only Qi Xia himself was the participant.

As soon as he entered the room, Qi Xia realized he seemed to have been tricked.

Inside the room was a table, and on the table sat two boxes.

“My game is called ‘Dao in Boxes.’ We’ll each put our ‘Dao’ into these two boxes separately.” The Man-Monkey patted the two boxes on the table and continued, “The ‘Dao’ I put in will only be more than yours, never less. After the game starts, we’ll take turns removing any number of ‘Dao’ from any box, but note that whoever empties both boxes after taking ‘Dao’ wins. In other words, the person who takes the last ‘Dao’ is victorious.”

After hearing this, Qi Xia fell into contemplation again. He examined the two sealed boxes and found that their openings were very small, barely able to fit one hand through.

If he wanted to formulate a strategy, it clearly involved a question of going “first” or “second.”

“So who takes first?” Qi Xia asked.

“Decided by rock-paper-scissors.” The Man-Monkey patiently explained. “The winner can designate who goes first in taking ‘Dao’ from the boxes. The loser designates which box to take ‘Dao’ from, but neither can designate the number of ‘Dao’ to take.”

“I see…” Qi Xia nodded.

Yun Yao watched from the side for a long time before asking, “Qi Xia, how many are you betting?”

“Ten.” Qi Xia said.

“Ten?!” Yun Yao was startled. “Are you confident?”

“More or less.”

If they were taking ‘Dao’ from the same box, Qi Xia would have confidence in winning.

But now the Man-Monkey had prepared two boxes, making the game’s variables slightly greater.

Taking any number of ‘Dao’ from any box—this game was different from the logic game with the “Man-Pig.” It entirely depended on the participants’ strategies.

“Yun Yao, the opening rock-paper-scissors is very important.” Qi Xia said to Yun Yao in a low voice. “Can you use your ‘Strong Luck’ to help me?”

“This…” Yun Yao lowered her head with difficulty and said, “Sorry, I’m not confident.”

“Alright then.” Qi Xia had anticipated this answer, so he said, “Then I’ll do it myself.”

Yun Yao nodded guiltily and began taking ‘Dao’ from her bag. “Qi Xia, help me out.”

She first took out four and stuffed them into Qi Xia’s hands. Qi Xia couldn’t hold them in one hand and could only cup both hands like a bowl.

Before long, Yun Yao pulled out two more, then continued searching. Her bag seemed to have many things in it—not only various old cosmetics, but even candy wrappers, used tissues, and used makeup remover pads.

“Your bag needs organizing.” Qi Xia said.

“Don’t worry about an idol’s bag.” Yun Yao said irritably, then pulled out three more. “How many now?”

“Nine now.” Qi Xia answered helplessly.

“Okay, okay, found it.” Yun Yao pulled out the last ‘Dao’ and placed it in Qi Xia’s hands.

Qi Xia held this pile of ‘Dao’ and came before the Man-Monkey, raised his hands and shook them, saying, “Ten. I’m putting them in.”

The Man-Monkey nodded, then took out twelve ‘Dao,’ counted them in front of everyone, and deposited them into the other box.

“Monkey, let’s play rock-paper-scissors.” Qi Xia said.

Qi Xia was somewhat afraid of this type of one-round decisive rock-paper-scissors.

He could guarantee the result of rock-paper-scissors through multiple consecutive rounds by judging the opponent’s personality and throwing logic, but if it really had to be decided in one round, it became a pure luck game.

“Monkey, what will you throw?” Qi Xia asked.

“That trick won’t work on me. I won’t answer.” The Man-Monkey said. “Let’s begin.”

Qi Xia sighed helplessly and could only leave everything to luck.

The two played one decisive round, but both threw “paper” simultaneously.

Then in the second round, both threw “rock” again.

Seeing this, Qi Xia felt this rock-paper-scissors was extraordinary. The opponent was actually using the exact same strategy as himself.

In the third round, Qi Xia threw “rock,” while the opponent still threw “paper.”

“You really put thought into this, refusing to throw scissors from start to finish…” Qi Xia murmured to himself.

“Thanks for the game.” The Man-Monkey said. “I’ve always been strong at rock-paper-scissors.”

“Is that so?” Qi Xia’s pupils moved slightly, his tone meaningful.
