The Man-Monkey opened the door to the two-story building behind him. When everyone raised their eyes to look inside, they discovered the interior was pitch black, not at all like the game venues of other “Zodiacs.”
“Everyone, my game is called ‘No Cutting in Line,’ and it now officially begins.”
After saying this, he pulled out a flashlight from his pocket, turned around, and walked through the doorway.
After looking at each other for a few seconds, everyone followed his footsteps into the building.
This building had two floors in total and looked like a small inn. Although the first floor was very dark, it felt somewhat spacious.
After everyone had entered the room, the Man-Monkey gestured for Tiantian, who was at the back of the group, to close the door.
Tiantian hesitated for a few seconds before following his instruction and closing the door. In an instant, the interior became pitch black, and only the Man-Monkey’s flashlight beam could be seen.
“Um…” A middle-aged woman spoke up to ask, “Why is it so dark in here? Aren’t we turning on the lights for this game?”
“That’s right. Not only will this game not have lights on, but after it starts I’ll even turn off the flashlight.”
The Man-Monkey smiled while shining the flashlight beam on his own face.
His rotten monkey face appeared especially sinister under the bright flashlight illumination.
“What about the game rules?” A young man asked.
The Man-Monkey didn’t answer. He beckoned to someone standing in front, gesturing for them to hold the flashlight for him, then turned around and opened a wardrobe. Under the flashlight’s illumination, everyone saw many yellow safety helmets used at construction sites hanging inside the wardrobe.
“Everyone, please come forward and collect a helmet each.” The Man-Monkey gestured to the crowd.
Not knowing what this meant, everyone was somewhat afraid to step forward. It was clearly an “intelligence game,” yet it required safety helmets specifically for protecting the head?
“No.” The Man-Monkey shook his head. “I guarantee with my life that unless someone ‘breaks the rules,’ this game will absolutely have no life-threatening danger whatsoever.”
“Breaking the rules…?”
“That’s right.” The Man-Monkey nodded. “The rules I’m about to explain are very important. You’d all better listen carefully. Right now you are a team. During the game, as long as one person breaks the rules, I will disqualify everyone from the game.”
After hearing this, everyone’s expressions became heavy, and the pressure in their hearts gradually increased. Before them was a group of complete strangers, and no one wanted to become the target of public criticism here.
“No wonder…” Tiantian said quietly. “No wonder the more people there are, the more advantageous it is for the Man-Monkey… Because this way our probability of ‘breaking the rules’ greatly increases…”
Just as her murmured words fell, the Man-Monkey snatched the flashlight from the young person beside him and shone it directly on Tiantian’s face.
Tiantian squinted her eyes from being stabbed by this strong light and raised her hand to block it gently. “What’s wrong…?”
“The first rule I want to state is that from now on, unless I allow everyone to speak, no one may make a sound.” After the Man-Monkey finished speaking, he withdrew the flashlight beam and shone it back on himself. “If anyone dares to start talking without my permission, then everyone will be considered to have failed right now.”
Although everyone was extremely unwilling after hearing this, they all closed their mouths one after another.
“Very good.” The Man-Monkey nodded, then took out a safety helmet from the wardrobe behind him and put it on his own head. “Everyone, please watch carefully below.”
Wearing the safety helmet, he walked step by step up the stairs leading to the second floor. When he was about to reach the second floor, a small blue light lit up at the back of the safety helmet.
That blue light’s glow was just a tiny speck, extremely weak and almost invisible.
After the blue light came on, the Man-Monkey stopped in his tracks, turned back to the crowd, and said, “On the back of each safety helmet you receive, there will be a small light. This light is only the size of a grain of rice, extremely difficult to see clearly, but what you need to know is that all the lights come in only two colors total—one is red, one is blue, but the total number of the two types of lights is not fixed.”
After hearing this, everyone originally had some questions, but remembering the rules the Man-Monkey had stated before, they could only remain silent.
“All the lights will turn on when you reach the second floor, but each of you cannot see your own color.” The Man-Monkey slowly turned around and waved the flashlight in his hand. “Now please follow me upstairs.”
After hearing this, everyone hurried to follow. Inside the room, it was so quiet that only the sound of everyone’s footsteps on the wooden floor remained.
The layout of the second floor was somewhat different from the first floor. Everyone first passed through a straight corridor and finally arrived at a rectangular area. The rectangular area and the corridor formed a perpendicular T-shape distribution.
Here it was still so dark one couldn’t see one’s hand in front of one’s face.
“Next is the second rule.” The Man-Monkey said. “Everyone must walk up to the second floor in order, then pass through the corridor and finally stand in this area. But note that everyone must face the wall, you cannot face the corridor. Do you understand clearly?”
After hearing this, everyone didn’t dare to speak and only nodded their heads.
“Below is your ‘victory method.'” The Man-Monkey said. “Before the game ends, as long as all of you can, with your backs to the corridor, separate according to the two colors on top of your heads, face the wall and stand in a row, without any single color standing in the wrong position, you will be considered victorious. During this period, if anyone dares to open their mouth to speak, give any hint, or remove their own or others’ safety helmets, it will all be considered ‘breaking the rules.'”
After pausing for a few seconds, everyone finally realized how absurd this “No Cutting in Line” game was.
Although this game was called “team cooperation,” it looked more like a “team trap.”
They couldn’t see what color the light on top of their own head was at all, yet they had to separate according to red and blue colors and ultimately stand in a row.
Red is red, blue is blue. As long as one person stood in the wrong position, everyone would lose.
Moreover, this small light was really too small. The Man-Monkey had been wearing this helmet and moving around in the room, yet the walls here hadn’t been dyed blue by the light on his helmet.
Looking at it this way, this light must also be specially made. The color could only be distinguished with the naked eye; its light source had no diffusion.
According to these rules, could it be done without any communication at all?
Tiantian turned her head by the light and counted. Including Zheng Yingxiong, there were eleven people participating in this game in total. To have these eleven people accurately stand in the position of their own light color without knowing what color the light on top of their head was… how could this possibly be achieved?
She thought for a few seconds without any ideas and turned her head to look at Xiao Cheng beside her.
And at this moment, Xiao Cheng also showed a troubled expression, lowering his head and continuously pondering countermeasures.
“It seems you all already know the rules.” The Man-Monkey smiled, then led everyone back to the first floor and said, “Now please everyone step forward to collect your safety helmet.”
After hearing this, no one dared to disobey. They quietly lined up and stepped forward to collect a safety helmet each, then put it on their head.
