Wei Zhi dragged her board onto the cable car and settled in. Shan Chong pulled down the safety bar. She rested her arms on the bar, swinging her legs, and contentedly remarked, “I’m stuffed.”
Shan Chong glanced at her.
She added expressionlessly, “With drama.”
She truly felt she had done a great service—
The idea had come to her yesterday on the cable car when she mentioned finding someone else to teach her when Shan Chong was unavailable. He had verbally agreed at the time, but it was clear he hadn’t taken it seriously and was too lazy to find her a backup instructor.
It was true that these experts were often impatient when teaching basics. But now that someone was about to teach her, they seemed reluctant to hand over the reins, like emperors choosing sons-in-law, dissatisfied with everyone they saw.
If Shan Chong was like this, Lao Yan must be the same.
It was like dealing with an ex-boyfriend. If you want your ex to lose sleep, clench his fists, and cry bitter tears… well, if the ex was 175 cm tall, the next one couldn’t be 174 cm. If the ex drove a Mercedes, the next one couldn’t drive a Honda Civic.
So to replace Lao Yan, she couldn’t just find some random person to teach her. It had to be someone as good as or even better than Lao Yan, to make it clear that in this day and age, you never know who might replace whom.
In life, you’ve got to stand up for yourself.
Jiang Nan Feng’s cable car was just two or three ahead of Wei Zhi’s. Wei Zhi could see them by leaning forward slightly. As she rested her chin on her hand, gazing ahead, her whole being radiated satisfaction with Dai Duo.
The atmosphere was starting to affect Shan Chong.
So he asked, “Can’t you sit properly?”
His tone wasn’t particularly pleasant.
Knowing his temper wasn’t great, Wei Zhi wasn’t afraid of him.
She slowly turned her head to look at the man, thought for a moment, and said seriously, “I never intended to have him teach me. I was just thinking of finding someone for Nan Feng who was as good as or better than Lao Yan. I didn’t have much hope, and I was originally going to ask you to help find someone…”
This was the source of her “you have to take responsibility” WeChat message.
She swallowed and finished her thought: “But as soon as we went out, I saw him crouching there. It was like someone offering a pillow when you’re tired.”
Shan Chong didn’t quite understand why she suddenly brought this up.
“So?” he prompted.
Wei Zhi replied, “So don’t wrinkle your nose every time you hear Dai Duo’s name or see him.”
Hearing this, Shan Chong was about to say that his aversion to seeing Dai Duo was as natural as humans wrinkling their brows at the sight of excrement, and no amount of explanation would change that… but before he could speak, he heard her say in a particularly confident voice: “Stop being jealous. Nan Feng changing instructors has nothing to do with me changing mine. Why should you care?”
Shan Chong was speechless.
In his twenty-some years of memories, Shan Chong rarely encountered situations where he couldn’t respond to others’ words. He never expected this day to come so soon.
He simply pushed up his snow goggles, revealing his calm, dark eyes. He had no other intention but to let her see how composed he was.
“Which eye of yours saw me being jealous?” he asked sincerely.
“You weren’t?” she queried.
“No.”
“Then find someone who can substitute for you to teach me when you’re teaching others.”
“…” Shan Chong said, “If you master edge changing today, the next ten, twenty, or even thirty days will be a process of perfecting various edge changes. When I’m not around, you can practice on your own. Why do you need someone to substitute for me?”
“Oh,” Wei Zhi uttered a single syllable, but the atmosphere was set.
Shan Chong reached out and removed her goggles, seeing her eyes sparkle with a look that said “See? I told you so.” It made him want to hit something.
So with a “snap,” he put her goggles back on. Out of sight, out of mind.
“I don’t know what you see in Dai Duo. He’s just a park rider who knows a bit of carving and freestyle. He can’t compare to specialists like Lao Yan,” he said, pausing before adding his personal opinion, “And that foul mouth of his, even dogs would hate it. One day he’ll die because of that mouth of his that just won’t stop running.”
“He’s not bad, is he?” Wei Zhi hesitated, still wanting to argue. “I thought what he said when criticizing Lao Yan’s teaching quality was quite appealing.”
“…” Shan Chong gave up. “Do you think he didn’t include you in his insults?”
“He didn’t,” Wei Zhi said. “I know how to get off the cable car, don’t I?”
“…”
As they were talking, the cable car was indeed approaching the top of the mountain.
Jiang Nan Feng’s group arrived first. From Wei Zhi’s angle, she could see Jiang Nan Feng’s leg with one binding dangling in the air, then gradually reaching the slope. Dai Duo pushed up the safety bar, and Jiang Nan Feng’s board dragged on the snow surface.
Then the cable car reached level ground, and her other foot was in the binding.
She slowly stood up, pushed along by the cable car, keeping her board straight. The foot in the binding gradually brought pressure to the front edge—
A beautiful C-turn. She followed behind Dai Duo, stopping steadily at the bottom of the cable car slope.
She got off the cable car quite well.
Just as Jiang Nan Feng arrived, Wei Zhi’s group reached the top too.
Following the procedure, she also slowly shifted her bottom out a bit, then continued to stand up slowly.
However, the moment she let go of the cable car, her left foot slipped and didn’t plant firmly. As she tried to straighten her board, her front foot slid out, and her back foot instinctively pressed on the back edge to try to brake—
This front-back imbalance made her whole body shake, and she was about to face-plant spectacularly.
At that moment, a pair of hands appeared at her waist, catching her from behind and stopping her backward fall.
Her feet were all over the place on the binding, but because of the strong support from behind, she didn’t fall. Instead, following the force from behind, she smoothly carved a C-turn at the bottom of the cable car slope and came to a stop.
Her brow furrowed as her heart raced. She was still in shock.
Behind her, she could feel the man’s steady breathing close to her ear.
As Wei Zhi came to her senses, the hands that had been on her waist withdrew as the supporting force disappeared. She turned her head to see the man standing behind her with one foot on his board, unhurriedly raising his hand to adjust his glove.
Through his snow goggles, he lazily glanced at her and said expressionlessly, “‘I know how to get off the cable car, don’t I?'”
Wei Zhi was speechless.
His taunt ignited her fighting spirit.
Wei Zhi retorted: “How come you didn’t act like you’d seen a ghost after touching my waist this time?”
Lowering his eyes to hide his emotions, the man’s expression barely changed: “Because I thoroughly explored last night. I’m aesthetically fatigued.”
Wei Zhi was left speechless again.
Shan Chong added: “By the way, the shoes you kicked off last night are still in my car. Remember to get them before we part ways today.”
Wei Zhi was at a loss for words.
She really couldn’t understand how the story of Cinderella was supposed to be romantic… In reality, the thought of her shoe being left in her crush’s car made her want to die of embarrassment.
Damn it.
…
After getting off the cable car, they deliberately bypassed Aiwen Trail. Wei Zhi didn’t even glance at that slope again.
They found Jiang Nan Feng and Dai Duo in front of another slope. Wei Zhi struggled over her board, huddled together with Jiang Nan Feng, and the two started whispering.
Seeing the young girl’s animated expression, one could guess with their toes that they were badmouthing Lao Yan.
Seeing Dai Duo there, Shan Chong deliberately slowed his pace. When he arrived, the two men exchanged a bland look, which was the most polite greeting they could manage.
As Wei Zhi and Jiang Nan Feng huddled together, chatting and laughing, Wei Zhi was bending over to strap on her board when someone lightly tapped the back of her helmet. She heard the man say, “No rush, let them go first.”
Wei Zhi was about to ask if he was allergic to Dai Duo, unable to even breathe the same air as him.
At that moment, she heard the man’s voice change direction, speaking to someone not far behind her: “When they’re together, they rest every 500 meters for 10 minutes.”
Looking in that direction, Wei Zhi saw Dai Duo.
Dai Duo bent down to secure his bindings, not acknowledging Shan Chong, but having heard what he said. He glanced at Wei Zhi and Jiang Nan Feng, then asked the latter, “Ready?”
Dai Duo’s style was quite different from Lao Yan’s.
He was decisive and didn’t mince words.
Jiang Nan Feng couldn’t expect him to squat on the mountain with her to watch the sunset. She sighed, patted Wei Zhi’s shoulder, and went ahead.
The slope beneath their feet at this moment, though not Aiwen, was still a proper advanced run. Wei Zhi saw Jiang Nan Feng push through the first two or three meters of the slope, with Dai Duo following behind her, hands behind his back. “What did I tell you on the cable car? Where’s your C-turn?” he asked.
Jiang Nan Feng released her board, cleanly executing a front-edge C-turn.
“After turning on the front edge, don’t look up the mountain, don’t fall downhill, look in your direction of travel… Maintain a front-edge falling leaf, twist the board, twist, then connect with a back-edge C-turn.”
Following his instructions, Jiang Nan Feng’s board moved diagonally across the slope. As the half-edge bit deeper into the snow, her gliding speed slowed to a controllable range. She then twisted her board, straightened it, turned again, and completed a back-edge C-turn—
Connecting two C-turns for the first time resulted in a complete S-turn, commonly known as edge changing.
Her movements were stable, and her rhythm was good. Even Dai Duo, with his high standards and lack of patience, felt relieved. He was glad he hadn’t inexplicably taken on a difficult student. This one understood everything he said and could execute the movements she understood, which was very reassuring.
“Not bad,” he praised simply. “Keep changing edges like that.”
Listening to his lesson from the mountaintop, Wei Zhi found this dry, cold teaching style increasingly familiar. She couldn’t help but turn to look at the man behind her, who was bent over, lazily brushing snow off his board with his glove.
He didn’t raise his head, maintaining an air of cold aloofness.
Dai Duo led Jiang Nan Feng down the mountain, changing edges one by one, until they disappeared from Wei Zhi’s sight.
Once the two figures vanished, the young girl, who had long since strapped on her board, bounced restlessly in place and turned to ask the person behind her irritably, “Are you satisfied now?”
After finishing clearing the snow from his board and tightening his bindings, Shan Chong unhurriedly straightened up and asked, “Didn’t Jiang Nan Feng just learn C-turns?”
Wei Zhi: “Yes.”
Shan Chong: “What she just did is called edge changing.”
Wei Zhi: “So?”
Shan Chong: “She just learned C-turns, and with a bit of verbal guidance, she can directly connect them into edge changes. Her rhythm and posture are nearly flawless, with no open shoulders, and no falling downhill, and both C-turns are very symmetrical… If your friend had started skiing ten years earlier, I wouldn’t want to watch next year’s Winter Olympics without her.”
Wei Zhi: “…”
The man’s tone was light and airy.
Wei Zhi: “?”
Wei Zhi: “What do you mean?”
Shan Chong: “Just look at her.”
These words were like lighting a fuse.
From the start in Chongli, there had been an intense competition – pushing uphill, C-turns, even how to fall and get up again – and now in Xinjiang, he was outright praising someone else!
Standing at the starting point on her snowboard, the plump bird grew agitated, flapping her wings, wishing she could peck his face. “How can you praise her!”
Seeing her jumping frantically, making the snow beneath her board crunch “pah,” but unable to do any more advanced flat ground tricks and thus only able to bounce in place, unable to come over… the man’s mood improved slightly in its malevolence. From behind his face guard, he curled his lip and deliberately said, “Don’t be jealous.”
This was throwing her earlier brazen words on the cable car back at her.
He was waiting for her to deny it furiously, ready with words to tease her further…
Who knew that from not far away, the angry young girl who couldn’t come over would grab a handful of snow, ball it up, and throw it at his face: “I am jealous! You’re not allowed to praise others!”
The snowball hit him squarely on the nose, scattering snow, some of which fell inside his face guard through the gaps.
The cold snowflakes landed on his lips, and some, meeting the warmth of his skin, immediately melted into water, trickling down the curve of his cheek and dripping from his chin.
“…”
The last time someone dared to throw a snowball at him was in 2004 when he was in fourth grade.
Shan Chong looked around, wishing for a broom, but not wanting to stoop to throwing a snowball back—
So, under Wei Zhi’s astonished gaze, he stepped forward on his snowboard, reached her in a few strides, grabbed her shoulder, and gave her a firm smack on her backside!
His hand was strong, and Wei Zhi felt the sting even through her padding.
She yelped and curled up like a shrimp, but quickly forgetting the pain in her bottom, she grabbed the man’s sleeve: “What was that just now? The way you walked over on your board! It’s so cute! Teach me, teach me!”
Shan Chong: “…”
Hopping forward on a snowboard was just a basic freestyle move, commonly known as the penguin walk.
This girl wanted to learn carving and freestyle, but he’d never heard her express interest in park riding.
Shan Chong felt he might die of frustration one day because of her.
Shan Chong: “I won’t teach you.”
Wei Zhi: “Why not!”
Shan Chong: “I’m not in the mood.”
Wei Zhi: “…”
…
Wei Zhi only had time for one warm-up lap on the advanced run before being dragged to the intermediate slope to learn edge-changing. By the time she had swept the intermediate slope with her chest and tasted the snow in every corner, on the adjacent advanced run, Shan Chong’s “genius girl” Jiang Nan Feng had already begun practicing uphill turns.
Uphill turns are a practice item that comes after being able to continuously change edges while skidding on intermediate to advanced slopes.
Basic sliding is divided into skidding and carving. Carving, as the name suggests, involves setting the board edge at a higher angle—
In the past novice stage, the snowboard’s track on the slope was a wide, shallow mark like a broom’s trail. Progressing to carving, the snowboard, due to the high-angle edge, only contacts the snow with the edge, leaving a deep, thin line as its track.
For most people, it takes a long period of practice to progress from skidded edge changes to beginning carving. Beginners usually have various issues when first learning edge changes—
These include but are not limited to, avoiding the center of gravity, opening the shoulders, having an unstable lower body, or turning edge changes into simple downhill pushes rather than diagonal falling leaf patterns after changing edges…
Jiang Nan Feng had none of these problems.
Every edge change was very stable.
Dai Duo was also a bit surprised that Jiang Nan Feng could progress from skidded edge changes to beginning carving in just one day.
This further convinced him that Lao Yan had been wasting time.
“Carving allows you to go faster, have more control, and maintain a relatively stable riding posture,” Dai Duo explained to Jiang Nan Feng on their first run. “Let me demonstrate for you.”
With that, he set off, going straight downhill, then lowering his body, folding, as he put all his weight on the back edge—
From Jiang Nan Feng’s perspective, his entire body seemed to almost touch the snow surface, his hand brushing past the snow, his hips infinitely close to the snow surface. The snowboard naturally turned towards the back edge direction on the slope, and when one edge was finished, the board’s forward direction even moved half a meter towards the opposite uphill direction—
“This is an uphill turn. The movement I did was exaggerated. When you’re just starting to learn, you only need to achieve about a third of this degree for now.”
Dai Duo explained.
“To set a high edge angle, it’s not just about arching your foot and lifting your toes,” he said, standing at the bottom of the hill, doing a 180-degree jump to face Jiang Nan Feng who was uphill. “Unlike skidded edge changes, in addition to arching your foot, you need to actively curl your toes.”
He waved at Jiang Nan Feng, signaling her to do a back edge turn.
Jiang Nan Feng came down, carving across the slope at high speed, almost unable to stop when she reached the bottom. Dai Duo had to catch her.
“At this stage, don’t twist the board anymore. Ride the board, finish one edge, then apply pressure to the next edge, and the board will naturally go to that edge—”
“This way will be very fast.”
“What’s wrong with being fast? As long as your edge is deep enough, you can control the board.”
“Lao Yan said riding should be steady…”
“Snowboarding is a formal sport, but currently, only big air and parallel giant slalom are regular competition events, and most people will never encounter these in their lifetime,” Dai Duo interrupted her. “You just need to know how to ride beautifully, with personality, to become a god on the slopes in others’ eyes—”
Dai Duo looked down on Lao Yan because although Lao Yan specialized in freestyle and carving, he leaned towards the traditional European and American system, which is what the general public can accept: stable riding, stable tricks, and close to nature.
Dai Duo, on the other hand, preferred another riding style. This style is faster, demands higher freestyle technique, and compared to stable riding, they care more about how good it looks, whether the technique appears more advanced, or more refined… Nowadays in snowboarding, this high-speed freestyle is more common in Japan and Korea.
Both styles involve carving and freestyle, but due to different philosophies, they remain separate camps, never able to convince each other.
Dai Duo thought Lao Yan wasted time dwelling on skidded edge changes with Jiang Nan Feng, also because of different philosophies—
In the first traditional riding style, people believe that skidding and carving is not necessarily a progression. In a single run, different riding styles should be used according to different terrains.
For example, in forests, big mountains, and off-piste (non-groomed slopes), carving is generally not used, and skidding is more commonly employed.
In this system, gliding on the edge of the blade becomes less important. They need to constantly control their speed, focusing on the ability to adjust speed freely and brake at any moment.
The second style involves coming down the mountain at high speed safely, leaving an elegant yet blurry silhouette for the beginners standing at the sides of the slope, dropping admiration all around – cool, attractive, dazzling.
It’s like the difference between traditional basketball and street basketball. While the basic rules are similar, they branch into two styles with completely different playing techniques and specific rules.
“If a person has mediocre talent, they might resign themselves to being an unremarkable member of the masses, pursuing what they call ‘being close to nature,'” said Dai Duo. “But if that’s all they’re after, why not play with a yo-yo instead of extreme sports?”
Jiang Nanfeng was almost convinced by him.
She thought for a moment, completely unsure how to refute him. After all, she didn’t fully understand what he was saying, but the distinction between “yo-yo” and “extreme sports” seemed quite persuasive.
She glanced at Dai Duo and said, “I’m afraid of speed.”
“I’ll watch you. You won’t fall,” Dai Duo said calmly. “It’s just carving. The difficulty is the same as a falling leaf, just a higher-edged falling leaf.”
Hearing this, Jiang Nanfeng didn’t argue. She could only temporarily force herself to overcome her fear of speed and practice back-edge carving on the advanced slope – the process of carving.
“Lower your body, lift your toes, tighten your core, use your hips to find the ground – lock your hips, meaning the angle between your hips and the snowboard remains constant.”
“Your snowboard is at most at a 45-degree angle now. If you can lower your center of gravity enough, you can edge it higher.”
“After you stop, look back and see if your track is a single line.”
Jiang Nanfeng looked back. There was a crooked trail on the snow, partly a line and partly chopped snow. “It’s a bit difficult,” she said.
“That’s why they say ‘one edge is hard to achieve,'” Dai Duo said softly. “Don’t rush.”
Jiang Nanfeng switched to another back edge, and the voice behind her continued –
“When you’re on the back edge, to help stabilize your glide, you can open your shoulders slightly. When changing edges with chopped snow, responsible instructors will tell you not to open your shoulders, but in carving, slightly open-shouldered sliding is allowed.”
“No, opening your shoulders doesn’t mean turning your hips too.”
“Arch your feet.”
“Your core is loose.”
“No, do it again.”
Dai Duo’s teaching method was completely different from Lao Yan’s. There was no one chasing behind saying “Sister, slow down” or “There’s a snow bump ahead… duck.” When she fell, no one would laugh and reach out to help her up, telling her to conserve energy –
When encountering a snow bump, Dai Duo would tell her that she fell because while her edge angle was sufficient, her body’s center of gravity wasn’t low enough.
He wouldn’t help her up, but he would slide in front of her, blocking her path to prevent her from continuing downhill, patiently waiting for her to get up on her own before moving on.
“Center of gravity, center of gravity, open your shoulders, lock your hips, don’t move.”
During another descent, Jiang Nanfeng tried hard to lower and fold her body according to the voice behind her. For about two seconds, her body was so low that her front hand was almost touching the snow surface –
Carving doesn’t necessarily require hands touching the snow, but when hands touch the snow, it’s already on the verge of entering carving
Her heart was in her throat, her heartbeat accelerated, the wind blew her hair, and she squinted slightly at the snow scene behind her, with a hint of excitement!
The snowboard was moving fast, cutting horizontally. Just as she was about to stop and wait for the next single-line practice, she suddenly heard an urgent “Watch out!” from behind.
She reflexively looked back and saw a bear-like big brother wearing a snowboard, sliding down in a flat position, shouting “Watch out” while leaning back, clearly not knowing how to brake!
He whooshed past Dai Duo, and she heard the man curse briefly, “Shit!”
She was startled, and before she could wonder why Yu and Lei had come to this advanced slope, the person was already in front of her. To avoid colliding with him, her feet cut horizontally without braking at the appropriate position, sliding out and directly hitting a pole of the net at the side of the slope!
With a “bang”!
The intense pain in her back left her unable to get up for a while, lying on the fallen net. Not far away, a male voice was saying something like “I’m sorry” and “I’m sorry”…
The next second, an arm reached out from behind her, hooking her elbow and pulling her up. “Are you alright?”
The young man’s voice came from beside her ear, the same as when he was teaching, a young voice that had just passed adolescence, with a hint of magnetism, not deep but pleasant.
Apart from her back pain, when Jiang Nanfeng tried to stand up, she found that because her feet were still on the inflexible snowboard when she flew out, and perhaps due to an awkward landing posture, she had unconsciously used her hand to support herself, and now her entire left hand hurt when she moved it –
“Ouch!”
She frowned and waved her hand, indicating for Dai Duo to let go.
“I think I twisted my left hand.”
Dai Duo immediately released her. “That guy might be in a hurry to reincarnate,” he muttered. “Ever heard of ‘yield to speed, not to path’? You crashed into the net to avoid him?”
Jiang Nanfeng was in so much pain her teeth were chattering, but she still tried to explain her compassionate act: “From my angle, that big brother’s build was like the ‘Little Boy’s’ father.”
“Who’s Little Boy?”
“The bomb dropped on the neighboring island country.”
“…”
“If that big brother had crashed into me, I wouldn’t be any better off. I might have fallen apart by now.”
“If he had crashed into you, at least it would have been entirely his fault. You could have demanded medical expenses and recovery fees from him. Do you know how expensive an orthopedic steel pin is?”
While Dai Duo was making small talk to distract her, he reached out to remove Jiang Nanfeng’s board. He wanted to check if her left hand was twisted but hesitated to turn it over. After a moment’s hesitation, he asked, “Medical room?”
“It doesn’t feel like it’s broken, just twisted.”
“Then shall I take you back to the hotel?”
“Okay.”
Jiang Nanfeng didn’t hesitate much. “Could you please stop talking to me? I’m shivering in pain now, and I’m afraid I might bite my tongue if I speak.”
Her face was deathly pale, and Dai Duo’s brows were tightly knitted. That bomb had rushed by so fast earlier that he hadn’t had time to grab either of them –
This silly girl had crashed into the net herself.
It was utterly exasperating.
With one hand carrying Jiang Nanfeng’s board, Dai Duo shifted his snowboard and squatted down in front of her, then slightly turned his head: “Get on.”
Jiang Nanfeng was too stunned to feel the pain. “You’re going to piggyback me down?”
Dai Duo: “Is there any other choice? You can’t hold onto me in any other position. Want to fall again?”
Jiang Nanfeng: “…You’re still carrying aboard.”
Dai Duo: “Should we abandon the board? It’s not expensive, just over 3,000. The ski shop would buy it second-hand for just over 2,000. If you say the word, I’ll throw it away right now.”
Jiang Nanfeng: “……………I mean, can you carry me while holding the board?”
Dai Duo: “Even if I had a lame leg, I could carry you down while holding the board.”
…Now he was exaggerating.
Jiang Nanfeng knew arguing with him would be a waste of time. After all, he was squatting there, his back turned to her very determinedly… So she slowly crawled up and onto his back –
Sure enough, Dai Duo tucked the board under his arm, carried a person on his back, and could still steadily do small turns to bring her down the mountain.
With her chin resting on the hood of his snow jacket, smelling the faint scent of laundry detergent on his snowsuit, Jiang Nanfeng never imagined that her first experience of the speed and excitement of skiing after gaining speed…
…would be on someone else’s back.
“I wonder how Lao Yan would tease us if he knew,” she suddenly mused.
“Why?” Dai Duo asked confusedly amidst the whooshing wind, “It’s not like I let you waste yourself on a straight board. What right does he have to tease?”
“This is my first time hitting the net.”
“In that situation, even if Danchong were here, he couldn’t have protected you. He’s nothing,” the light male voice mixed with the wind sound entered her ears, “You let him, and he might not even be able to bring you down the mountain. Then you’d have to call the rescue team, which would be even more embarrassing.”
“…”
…
At the bottom of the mountain, Dai Duo casually threw his nearly ten-thousand-yuan board at the entrance of the ski equipment hall and helped Jiang Nanfeng back to the hotel.
Jiang Nanfeng looked at the board he had thrown on the ground and hesitated for a moment, not voicing the question, “Don’t you have any friends who can help watch it?”
It wasn’t until her feet were freed from the ski boots that she realized her left foot seemed to have been strained as well. So, with her arm drooping and limping, she hobbled to the hotel room, climbed onto the bed, and sat down to spray herself with Yunnan Baiyao. Only then did she remember that Wei Zhi was still waiting for her on the mountain to finish skiing and go eat together…
“My phone is in my pocket, the unlock code is 120120. Could you call Wei Zhi for me and let her know I’m injured?”
Sitting on the bed, Jiang Nanfeng held the Yunnan Baiyao in one hand while the other hung limply, clearly unable to operate the phone.
Dai Duo had been standing in the middle of the room, watching her from afar without speaking or turning to leave, let alone helping… Now being ordered around, he looked at her with a delayed reaction.
“I advise you to change to a more auspicious unlock code.”
He said this while taking Jiang Nanfeng’s phone out of her snow jacket.
Jiang Nanfeng continued to spray the medicine, head lowered.
He took the phone out to the corridor, squatted down, and slowly unlocked the screen. Just as he unlocked it, a WeChat call came in –
He didn’t recognize the WeChat nickname.
The young man squatting in the corridor slightly narrowed his eyes, carefully looked at this person’s avatar, and then judged that this person should be Lao Yan.
Without much thought, he swiped to answer.
There was silence on the other end of WeChat for a few seconds, then Lao Yan’s voice, tinged with fatigue and a bit of hoarseness, came through –
“Jiang Nanfeng, are you down the mountain? Come out and chat for a bit… Where are you?”
Dai Duo stared at the avatar in the middle of the phone screen for a while.
As if seriously considering how to respond.
After a while, when the other party hadn’t received a reply, and asked again, “Where are you?”
He finally moved his lips unhurriedly.
“Hotel, in bed?”
…………………………
The other end of the phone instantly fell into a deathly silence.
