“Old Master, this medicine — you must drink it.” The butler grew so anxious that even his voice turned urgent.
The Old Master furrowed his brow and asked, “What do you mean by that? Why must I drink it?”
“No, Old Master, that is not what I meant.” The butler immediately shook his head.
“What I mean is, since this medicine was obtained through Second Master’s efforts, it must be good medicine. Should Old Master not honor the trouble Second Master went through to get it?”
“For half a year, the eldest has been running about daily on account of my illness. The good medicine he brought back — I do not necessarily have to drink all of it.” The Old Master said dismissively.
“As for the second — he never shows up unless he wants something. For him to suddenly come seeking medicine on my behalf, I genuinely dare not drink it.”
“I wish to rest now. You are only a butler — are you trying to bully me? Put me down, or I will call for people.”
The butler met the Old Master’s gaze, his urgency growing more intense.
Suddenly, he grabbed hold of the Old Master’s head with both hands and said in a low, firm voice: “Whether you want to drink it or not — you will drink this bowl of medicine.”
“Drink it. Do not make things difficult for me. I am nothing but a servant.”
“You have turned against me! How dare you drug me!” The Old Master spat out those words, then pressed his lips tightly shut.
“Drink, drink!” The butler, disregarding the Old Master’s will, forcefully gripped his head.
Feng Jiu’er truly had not expected that the Second Master and his wife could be so cruel — drugging their own father. Could these people even be called human?
Old Master Yue had personally gone out on her behalf. Now, matters concerning the Yue family were Feng Jiu’er’s matters — she could not simply stand aside.
Moreover, Feng Jiu’er could easily imagine that the brothers of Yue Jianfei intended to harm more than just the Old Master.
Given the bond between her and Elder Sister Hua, she could not allow this to happen.
The Old Master kept his lips firmly sealed. The butler, for the time being, could not pour the medicine down his throat.
Watching a good portion of the medicine go to waste, the butler set the bowl aside and said coldly: “Old Master, you have forced my hand. Do not blame me for being discourteous.”
The moment those words fell, the butler raised his broad palm against the Old Master.
“Outrageous — truly outrageous! Someone come — there is a murder attempt!” The Old Master shouted with all his might.
Unfortunately, this room was separated from the outside by a considerable distance. No matter how loud the Old Master’s voice, it could not draw the attention of anyone outside.
Besides, even if some heard, it was not certain they would come in to stop it.
Just as the butler steeled himself to strike the Old Master, the corner of his eye caught a flash of white.
The butler spun around sharply. Seeing someone there gave him quite a fright.
“Who are you?”
“Old Grandfather, were you looking for me?” The smile had not yet faded from the corner of Feng Jiu’er’s lips when she stepped forward and sealed the butler’s pressure points.
She moved with such speed that the butler had no time to react before his pressure points were sealed.
Jian Yi appeared beside the bed — no one knew when — and as the Old Master began to topple without the butler’s support, he extended his palm and steadied the Old Master’s shoulder.
“Little girl, is that you?” The Old Master looked at Feng Jiu’er and asked softly.
“It is me.” Feng Jiu’er looked at him and gave a nod. “Jian Yi, help Old Grandfather lie down. I will check on his condition in a moment.”
Jian Yi nodded and gently laid the Old Master flat on the bed.
The butler kept his eyes fixed on Feng Jiu’er, his gaze flickering.
Just as he was about to speak, Feng Jiu’er produced a short blade and pressed it against his throat.
“The people outside — I do not regard any of them. If you wish to call for help, you are welcome to try. But…”
Feng Jiu’er curved her lips into a smile and lightly drew the short blade across the butler’s cheek.
“You have already witnessed my speed. Perhaps, by the time they rush in, you will already have eight or ten holes opened up in your body.”
“Would you — care to test that?” Feng Jiu’er raised an eyebrow. The light in her eyes turned cold and dark.
The butler stared at the short blade pressed against his face, his brow creasing deeply: “Great hero, spare my life! Great hero, please spare me!”
Feng Jiu’er shot the butler a sharp glare and immediately dropped the smile from her face, her aura growing even more frigid.
“Speak! What is the meaning of this scene today?”
She pressed the cold blade against the butler’s neck once more, its chill sharp and threatening: “Speak!”
“I will speak — just do not harm me. I will tell you everything.” The butler’s eyes went wide, his eyeballs almost bulging out.
When Feng Jiu’er put the short blade away, her expression softened visibly.
“Go on then. Old Grandfather and I are all ears.”
She tossed out those words, stepped past the butler, and sat down at the edge of the bed.
“Old Grandfather, do not worry. Your eldest daughter-in-law is fine. Thirty or forty men were no match for her.”
“She learned you had been taken away by Second Master’s people and came on her own. The people outside are still deliberating over how to charge your eldest daughter-in-law with a crime.”
“It is fortunate you are unharmed. Otherwise, who knows whether your eldest daughter-in-law could have walked out of this place today.”
“They even brought in some Elder to help — I imagine it is mainly directed at your eldest daughter-in-law. Ah — being a good person is never easy.”
Feng Jiu’er let out a soft sigh, picked up the bowl nearby, brought it to her nose, and sniffed: “A sedative. Fortunately — they only wanted to keep you from speaking.”
The Old Master furrowed his brow and shook his head: “I never imagined the second would do something like this.”
“And it is not just the second.” Feng Jiu’er turned back and shot the butler a sharp look. “Is Third Master also outside?”
“Yes — yes, he is.” The butler could not turn around and could only answer in a low voice.
Feng Jiu’er swept him a glance, set the medicine bowl down, and picked up the Old Master’s hand, placing her long fingers on his pulse.
“Now speak. What is their plan — tell us everything you know.”
“Yes — yes.” The butler nodded, meek and submissive.
Outside the main room, with Qiao Mu added to the fight, more than half the men were no match for her and Tang Xiaohua combined.
Very soon, all thirty or forty of them were down.
At the main gate, the Yue Manor’s butler came leading several men, forced the gates open, and rushed inside.
Qiao Mu and Tang Xiaohua still stood side by side. At first glance, they truly did look like a pair of blood sisters.
“Xiao Mu — not bad at all!” Tang Xiaohua tilted her head and said with a smile. “I have not fought such a satisfying battle in a long time. I still feel full of energy.”
“You were not bad either.” Qiao Mu’s lips curved ever so slightly, her face calm and her breathing steady.
She glanced at the people running in from outside and asked quietly: “Is the Yue Family Hall not very large? How is it that only a few people came?”
Tang Xiaohua also looked back and lightly furrowed her brow.
“Most likely, the servants sent to gather reinforcements were diverted somewhere along the way. Second Uncle certainly prepared for today well in advance.”
The Yue Manor’s butler hurried to Tang Xiaohua’s side and asked: “Madam, are you all right?”
“Why not ask whether the people you just stepped over are all right?” Tang Xiaohua swept a glance over the fallen figures on the ground, looking quite pleased with herself.
The Yue Manor’s butler looked at Tang Xiaohua’s manner and finally let out a long breath of relief.
“As long as Madam is unharmed, all is well. Otherwise, I would not have known how to explain things to the Master. Thank goodness — you are safe.”
