Chapter 1605: Feng Clan Arc: It’s His Fault!

“Mm.” Yu Jingfeng nodded in response.

He was, without question, not the type of man to shirk responsibility.

After responding to Feng Jiu’er, Yu Jingfeng took a deep breath, strode forward on his long legs, and walked toward the bed.

Leng Xuepiao watched the approaching figure, then withdrew her gaze and slowly drew her legs up.

Seeing the pitiful figure on the bed, Yu Jingfeng suddenly felt that he truly had been in the wrong.

Just earlier this evening, during the hotpot dinner, she’d been perfectly fine, he’d noticed that himself, and now—

Right! It was his fault, a grave mistake indeed!

“Miss Leng, I’m terribly sorry!”

Yu Jingfeng suddenly called out, his voice not at all quiet.

As Leng Xuepiao, startled, looked up, he climbed onto the bed without even taking off his boots.

Just like that, he straddled Leng Xuepiao, one large hand cradling the back of her head, the other covering her mouth.

Yu Jingfeng felt deeply uncomfortable, his heart pounding rapidly, but he still made sure to explain the situation to Feng Jiu’er.

He turned his head to look at Feng Jiu’er and said, “Miss Jiu’er, this is exactly how it happened at the time.”

“I was worried Miss Leng would call everyone over and cause a misunderstanding, so I—”

“Yu Jingfeng, you’re going to smother Xuepiao to death!” Xiao Yingtao stepped forward and shoved Yu Jingfeng.

Only then did Yu Jingfeng snap back to his senses, and when he turned his head, what met his eyes were Leng Xuepiao’s wide, panicked eyes.

It seemed that apart from those terrified wide eyes, her entire face had been covered by him.

“I’m sorry!” Yu Jingfeng, startled, immediately let go of Leng Xuepiao and knelt on the bed, his head bowed low.

Disaster! He’d truly almost killed someone.

“I’m sorry! Miss Leng, I didn’t realize your face was this small, are you alright?”

As Yu Jingfeng raised his head, his thin lips very nearly brushed against the forehead of Leng Xuepiao, who had sat up straight and was gasping for breath.

To be precise, his lips did brush against the ends of her hair.

“I’m sorry!” Yu Jingfeng abruptly swung his leg over and got off the bed.

“Miss Leng, I’m truly, deeply sorry! I didn’t mean to, I had no idea I’d nearly smothered you, I truly didn’t know.”

Leng Xuepiao was still gasping for air, seemingly frightened once again.

“Miss Leng, are you alright?” Seeing the pitiful state of his little white rabbit, Yu Jingfeng panicked and dropped to one knee.

He reached out with his large hand and gently rubbed her back.

“Miss Leng, don’t be afraid! I truly didn’t—”

Touched twice, Leng Xuepiao clutched the blanket and shrank further back.

Seeing her frightened eyes, Yu Jingfeng immediately withdrew his hand.

“Miss Leng, I really am so sorry! I didn’t mean to put you at risk, please don’t let yourself come to any harm over this.”

“If something were to happen to you, even if Miss Jiu’er didn’t blame me, I would never have peace of mind for the rest of my life.”

Startled instead, Yu Jingfeng dropped straight to both knees.

“Miss Leng, I truly had no intention of offending you, nor any intention of hurting you.”

“As for what happened afterward, when everyone burst in and saw me holding you as if about to kiss you — that was because you had fainted.”

“At the time I had no idea what to do, so I remembered Miss Jiu’er’s method of saving people and imitated it.”

“What Yu Jingfeng says is correct — everything he did matches the actions I performed before,” Feng Jiu’er said, nodding in agreement.

“Undoing the clothing, pressing on the chest, giving mouth-to-mouth breath to someone unconscious — this is a rather unusual method of saving a life.”

“So you’re saying you truly had no intention of bullying Xuepiao?” Xiao Mei looked at Yu Jingfeng, frowning.

When they’d first rushed in and seen Yu Jingfeng’s actions, everyone had assumed he was a depraved scoundrel, and would naturally have viewed him through that lens.

But looking at Yu Jingfeng now, he actually seemed… rather distinguished, and with how sincere his words were, Xiao Mei’s prejudice against him gradually eased.

Yu Jingfeng looked up at Leng Xuepiao and let out a light sigh.

“Miss Leng is a gently-bred young lady, but I am no beast — how could I possibly do something so vile?”

“Here and now, I sincerely apologize to Miss Leng! I hope Miss Leng can forgive me.”

Yu Jingfeng nodded once, lowered his head, and did not raise it again.

Yu Jingfeng was, after all, an upright and chivalrous man — seeing someone weak and vulnerable would naturally stir feelings of pity in him, all the more so given that the person before him was a pitiful, beautiful young woman.

“If Miss Leng is unwilling to forgive me, I will kneel here without rising.”

“Get up.” The moment Yu Jingfeng’s voice fell, Feng Jiu’er said flatly.

Yu Jingfeng blinked, raised his head and turned to meet Feng Jiu’er’s gaze.

“Miss Jiu’er, I—”

“Get up.” Feng Jiu’er repeated, her voice a touch deeper.

“Mm.” Yu Jingfeng nodded, stood, and stepped back twice.

The man who had just declared he’d kneel without rising was now standing right up.

It seemed this Lord Yu was actually quite obedient, even rather endearing.

Yu Jingfeng’s behavior made the two medicine practitioners nearby cover their mouths to stifle their laughter.

Xing Zizhou and Long Shiyi could hardly contain themselves either, nearly bursting into laughter.

“I didn’t realize your face was this small”… was that really something a man should say? Lord Yu, you really are too adorable for your own good!

“Xiao Mei.” Feng Jiu’er looked at Xiao Mei. “Do you think Lord Yu should be believed?”

“You’re the only one here who actually rushed in — I’d like to hear your opinion first.”

Xiao Mei glanced at Feng Jiu’er, then at Yu Jingfeng, frowning.

Finally, she said quietly, “Looking at it this way, Lord Yu’s character doesn’t seem bad at heart, but barging into a woman’s chamber without knocking simply isn’t acceptable.”

“Then what do you think we should do to punish him?” Feng Jiu’er continued.

“Punish him?” Xiao Mei scratched her head. “Miss Jiu’er, I really wouldn’t know — why don’t we ask Xuepiao what she thinks?”

“Alright.” Feng Jiu’er turned back to Leng Xuepiao. “Xuepiao, Yu Jingfeng has laid out the facts clearly now, is there anything you’d like to say?”

“It doesn’t matter! I think whatever you decide, Yu Jingfeng should be able to accept any punishment.”

“Yes, Miss Leng, it’s my fault regardless, I admit it.” Yu Jingfeng added.

He had originally intended to keep kneeling until Miss Leng forgave him.

But since Miss Jiu’er had told him to get up, there must have been a reason behind it, so he could only stand and speak.

Comforted by Xiao Yingtao, Leng Xuepiao had stopped gasping, and some color had returned to her face.

“Xuepiao, don’t be afraid!” Xiao Yingtao rubbed Leng Xuepiao’s head.

“A man like Yu Jingfeng, who doesn’t know the first thing about cherishing and protecting a woman, deserves a beating!”

Overhearing his own wife’s words from outside, Xing Zizhou felt relieved that he, at least, did better than Yu Jingfeng in this regard.

“Miss Leng, I am willing to accept any punishment.” Yu Jingfeng’s voice rang out again.

Before seeing Leng Xuepiao, he hadn’t felt he’d done anything wrong.

But after seeing her, Yu Jingfeng suddenly felt that he had been in the wrong — thoroughly, absurdly wrong.

“Xuepiao, don’t go easy on him! Xiao Yingtao is right, a man shouldn’t be forgiven so easily!” Feng Jiu’er reminded her gently.

If it weren’t for the pitiful look still lingering in his mind from Leng Xuepiao’s eyes, Yu Jingfeng surely would have pointed out that Miss Jiu’er never seemed to punish the Prince this way.

But he was hardly in the mood for such thoughts right now.

He’d nearly gotten a little white rabbit killed — how could he have been so careless?

Ugh!
