“No need.” Feng Jiu’er shook her head, turning to look at Xiao Yingtao.
“Understood.” Xiao Yingtao set down what she was holding, bent over, and pulled a case out from under the carriage.
“The Commandery Princess wants to personally check on the sick villagers. We’ve brought our medicine chest, please lead the way.”
“Good, good.” The peasant woman nodded vigorously, grabbed a steamed bun from her bag, and stuffed it into her mouth, taking a bite.
“No rush.” Seeing this, Xiao Yingtao waved her hand.
“Eat first. Five households, how many people in total? We’ll prepare the food and grain first.”
“All right.” The peasant woman nodded again and held up her fingers. “There are eight people in total.”
“Mm.” Xiao Yingtao nodded. “You go tend to your own business first.”
“Yes, miss.” The peasant woman walked off toward her son, carrying her food.
A child ran over, looking at Feng Jiu’er, who had just opened the medicine chest.
“Commandery Princess, could you come to my house and examine my grandfather and grandmother? Several days have passed and they haven’t gotten any better at all.”
Another peasant woman came over and knelt down directly.
“Commandery Princess, please go check on my daughter. She caught a chill a few days ago, and last night she developed a fever.”
“Commandery Princess, my father-in-law is also seriously ill, I hope you can go take a look at him too.”
“Commandery Princess, my mother is also bedridden.”
“Commandery Princess…”
All at once, a number of people knelt before the carriage.
Feng Jiu’er closed the medicine chest, looked at everyone, and waved her hand.
“Everyone get up. There’s still time, I’ll go check on everyone.”
“By the way, how is the preparation for the next batch of grain coming along?”
“The sweet potatoes in the field will be ready soon, and the corn cobs have also grown. Before long, there’ll be enough food,” one of the peasant women replied.
“Good.” Feng Jiu’er slung the medicine chest over her shoulder. “Let’s go, we’ll check on the sick family members first.”
“Good, good, I’ll lead the way,” the peasant woman replied.
Some people continued eating by the roadside, while others followed the group heading inside.
Feng Jiu’er and Xiao Yingtao left, and one of the brothers pulled the carriage, following behind.
There was still food and grain in the carriage, meant for the neighboring village, which couldn’t be left unattended.
After walking a while, Feng Jiu’er turned to look back at her sworn brother.
“While the food’s still warm, go ahead and distribute it.”
“Miss Jiu’er, this…” The brother hesitated a little.
“It’s fine, Jian Yi can stay behind.” Feng Jiu’er replied.
The leading brother steadied himself and nodded.
Xiao Yingtao’s martial arts were quite good, and with Jian Yi and Miss Jiu’er’s peerless skills present as well, it was still fairly reassuring in a small village like this.
“All right then, Jian Yi, take good care of Miss Jiu’er and Xiao Yingtao, we’ll head over first,” the brother said, looking at Jian Yi.
Jian Yi nodded, saying nothing further.
The brother led the carriage away, taking several of the horses with him.
The villagers led Feng Jiu’er and the other two away as well, leaving behind some of the elderly, weak, women, and children still sitting by the road eating.
They watched the direction Feng Jiu’er had gone, pausing what they were doing.
“This woman, is she really Prince Ye’s daughter?” an elderly man sighed.
“Yes, yes she is.” The peasant woman who had first spoken with Feng Jiu’er and the others nodded vigorously.
Seeing so many people leading the way, the peasant woman decided not to go along, staying behind instead to keep her son company and properly fill her stomach.
“They say she’s the Commandery Princess, Prince Ye’s daughter.”
“The Commandery Princess said the emperor killed his own father to usurp the throne. Former village head, I remember you once said that back then, the rightful heir was Prince Ye, not…”
“If that’s the case, then Prince Ye launching this battle is understandable, isn’t it?”
