“Good.” Feng Jiu’er nodded gently. “Brother Yue, Hua-jie, I’ll leave things here to you two for now. Qiaomu and I will go into the mountain to take a look.”
“Be careful.” Tang Xiaohua looked at Qiaomu, cautioning her.
“I will.” Qiaomu nodded.
Xing Zizhou turned his horse and led Feng Jiu’er and Qiaomu toward the mountain forest.
Behind the three of them, Jian Yi followed on horseback.
The stones within the stone forest stood densely packed, dazzling to look at.
But those who dismounted and walked forward felt no resistance at all.
Soon, they had made their way deep into the stone forest and came across the brothers hard at work.
“Miss Jiu’er.”
“Miss Jiu’er.”
Many people, upon seeing Feng Jiu’er, greeted her with smiles.
“Everyone’s worked hard.” Feng Jiu’er waved a hand and continued forward.
On a small hillside, Zhao Yusheng, Duan Liuyang, and a few brothers stood directing operations from above.
Seeing the visitors arrive, Zhao Yusheng glanced down, turned to give a few instructions, and took Duan Liuyang’s hand.
The two of them leapt lightly down, landing before Feng Jiu’er.
“How’s it going?” Feng Jiu’er asked softly.
“Pretty good,” Zhao Yusheng said, releasing Duan Liuyang’s hand. “Jiu’er, I incorporated your suggestions into my plan — it’s turned out great!”
“Let me take another look at your full plan,” Feng Jiu’er said softly.
Zhao Yusheng nodded and turned to look at Duan Liuyang.
Duan Liuyang stepped forward and handed the plan in her hands to Feng Jiu’er.
Feng Jiu’er took the plan and looked up at the two of them.
“You two go ahead and keep working — I want to study this a bit more.”
“All right.” Zhao Yusheng nodded, his gaze falling once more on Duan Liuyang.
Duan Liuyang pressed her pink lips together and extended her fair, slender hand.
Zhao Yusheng took her hand, turned, and leapt.
A gust of clear wind swept past, and the two of them returned to the hillside to continue their work.
“Jiu’er, we’ve come to help!” Xiao Yingtao’s voice arrived before she did.
Hearing her voice, Xing Zizhou stepped forward to meet her.
“Why not rest a little longer?” He took Xiao Yingtao’s hand as they walked back, leaving the others behind.
“We’ve rested enough. It’s so busy right now, we couldn’t sleep well anyway — might as well come help.” Xiao Yingtao replied.
The two came to Feng Jiu’er’s side, and Xiao Yingtao withdrew her hand from Xing Zizhou’s grasp.
“Jiu’er, is there anything you need help with?”
“Wait a moment, I have something to handle first.” Feng Jiu’er tossed out the remark, glanced up, and walked forward clutching the plan.
A brother holding an oil lamp who had been standing nearby followed a couple of steps after Feng Jiu’er, only to have the lamp taken from his hand.
The brother looked up to see Jian Yi’s ever-unchanging expression; he cleared his throat and let go.
Jian Yi took the lamp without a word and strode forward.
Just as Feng Jiu’er set the plan down on a table nearby, Jian Yi arrived at her side.
In the next instant, Xiao Yingtao led several other women over, and they gathered around the table.
Feng Jiu’er took out a pen and focused intently on marking up the diagram.
Everyone’s attention was fixed on the diagram; no one spoke.
After a while, Feng Jiu’er put down her pen and picked up the plan with both hands.
“I’ve made some changes — let’s go ask Zhao Yusheng if this will work.”
Feng Jiu’er tossed out the remark, turned, and walked off.
“Jiu’er.” Xiao Yingtao was the first to react and chased after her.
“How are you so sure Feng Rui will launch his attack tonight? What if he doesn’t come tonight?”
“No.” Feng Jiu’er glanced back and shook her head gently. “He’ll come. And it will definitely be tonight.”
